Todo por amor Con muy buenos antecedentes como documentalistas (algo que se pudo comprobar en el foco que el BAFICI les dedicó en abril último) llegó el matrimonio entre la italiana Tizza Covi y el austríaco Rainer Frimmel a su debut en la ficción con La Pivellina. Esta modestísima (“pivellina”) producción podría haber sido un desastre (si a uno le dijeran que se trata de la historia de unos artistas de un circo ambulante que crian a una niña de dos años abandonada por su madre en una plaza de un pueblo de las afueras de Roma inmediatamente pensarían en pintoresquismo + golpes bajos + sentimentalismo + melodrama barato). Nada de eso. La película es de una ternura, una vitalidad y una empatía nunca demagógica que la convierten en una pequeña gema. Actores no profesionales (Patrizia Gerardi parece una nueva Anna Magnani), dos directores que se encargan de casi todos los rubros, cámara 16mm en mano, nada de música incidental y una combinación entre rigor artesanal, humanismo y observaciones pletóricas de sensibilidad en medio de esas casas rodantes hacen de La Pivellina una de las grandes sorpresas de los últimos tiempos. PD 1: Nuestro amigo y colaborador catalán Manuel Yáñez Murillo escribió en OtrosCines.com que La Pivellina "se ubica en la línea del cine europeo de corte realista y centrado en la observación de las dinámicas sociales. Se trata de una historia que habría cautivado tanto a Vittorio de Sica como a Federico Fellini y que Covi y Frimmel filman a la manera de los hermanos Dardenne". Un concepto impecable para definir a estos neo-neorrealistas y al que me sumo. PD 2: Quienes hayan visto durante el último BAFICI el documental Babooska (2005) descubrirán allí el germen de lo que luego Covi y Frimmel concretarían en La Pivellina.
Enternecedor relato suburbano Desde su estreno en la Quincena de los realizadores del Festival de Cannes 2009, La Pivellina ha cosechado aplausos y premios en todo el mundo. La clave del film está en su mirada enternecedora sobre la relación que entabla una niña abandonada y un matrimonio mayor, sin caer en subrayados ni sentencias ideológicas. Patty es una sesentona de andar descuidado y cabello rojo intenso. Anda por el barrio gritando “Hércules”, como si se le fuera la vida si no lograra encontrarlo. Hércules no es el dios, naturalmente, sino su perro. La búsqueda la lleva a toparse con una pequeña de dos años (la “pivellina” del título) y con una nota de su madre que advierte que en un tiempo regresará por ella. A los directores (el matrimonio de documentalistas Tizza Covi y Rainer Frimmel) no les interesa tanto la espera en sí, aunque se hará sentir con el correr del metraje. Aquí todo pasa por la contemplación, la convivencia que se irá gestando entre la niña, Patty y su marido Walter, y más tarde un preadolescente llamado Tairo. Debutantes en la ficción, los realizadores emplean la imagen documental con justo rigor. Al igual que los hermanos Dardenne, lo que les interesa capturar de la realidad es la sensación de inmediatez del mundo cotidiano, inmediatez que penetra en el núcleo duro de lo real. Aquí también están la cámara en mano bien pegada a las espaldas, la ausencia de banda sonora, la inclusión de actores no profesionales (incluso los personajes conservan sus nombres) y demás procedimientos, siempre como eso: procedimientos. Su empleo apunta a la verosimilitud, a una apuesta naturalista que no se satura de falso espesor realista. Por eso, si hay desprolijidad en la puesta es porque el ambiente el que establece un nexo de contigüidad con el relato. Nada aparece forzado ni librado al azar, comenzando por la prodigiosa espontaneidad de la niña, quien se gana el afecto de su entorno y del espectador. La película tiene un desarrollo dramático más “situacional” que progresivo. Covi y Frimmel retoman parte del mundo de Babooska (2005), documental sobre una familia de artistas circenses. En La pivellina la convivencia de los personajes está teñida por el contexto (los suburbios de Roma). Un espacio que los realizadores reproducen sin apelar a la conmiseración. En una secuencia clave, el matrimonio monta el escenario y no cae ni un espectador. Pero la pobreza es vista desde un punto de vista lateral, es a través del juego de la niña y la afectación que despliega en los otros desde donde accedemos a las penurias con las que todos conviven. Así se suceden otros cuadros, que oscilan entre el encanto de la pequeña y el retrato social. Hacia la mitad del film cobra mayor protagonismo Tairo, quien llama “tía” a Patty aunque no lo sea. Sin explicitarlo, queda claro que el cariño que Tairo desarrolla por la pequeña es el reverso del cariño que deseó tener. De alguna manera, Tairo se permite ser niño cada vez que juega con ella, asumiendo al mismo tiempo la responsabilidad de cuidarla. En esas cesuras se construye lo más noble del film, en la transparencia de la imagen no hay más que una red de asociaciones que singularizan y le dan credibilidad a las acciones de los personajes. La pivellina es un film sobre cómo esos personajes que no tienen mucho se aferran al porvenir, aunque no reciban premios ni reconocimientos por ello.
Ninna nanna, ninna oh Tizza Covi y Rainer Frimmel, creadores de la productora Vento Films, cuentan esta historia a través del formato en el cual se sienten más cómodos: el docudrama, dando como resultado un film premiado como la Mejor Película sobre Derechos de la Infancia en el último BAFICI. Ya que a pesar de que el relato es ficticio, reflejan el momento socioeconómico que se esta viviendo en Italia y que empuja al abandono de niños, involucrando no solo a los recién nacidos. Patty adopta a la chiquita como si fuera una sobrina cercana, desde un primer momento se presenta como una tía y la familia la rodea de comodidad, obsequios y armonía. Los diálogos son voluntarios y se van dando de tal manera que la historia fluye entre los protagonistas sin verse forzada. La Pivellina narra sobre las infancias, en plural, porque el personaje de Tairo nos abre la puesta hacia el vivir de un adolescente que no supero la separación de sus padre cuando pequeño y que de alguna manera se ve muy en cercanía con la situación de la pequeñita. Si bien trata también sobre el coraje y la humanidad en una comunidad frecuentemente marginada por prejuicios (los artistas circenses) no cae en el lugar común, a tal punto que se evita a toda costa mostrar esa frecuente imagen de postal de una Italia soleada e inmaculada. En el festival Cannes 2009 recibió el premio “Label Europa Cinemas”. Canción de Cuna Italiana. Ninna nanna, ninna oh Questo bimbo a chi lo dò ? Se lo dò alla Befana, Se lo tiene una settimana. Equilibristas de la vida A la manera de una película familiar, y rodada con cámara en mano, los realizadores Rainer Frimmel y Tizza Covi (quienes vienen del documental) plasman en imágenes un microcosmos de lucha y supervivencia cotidiana. La acción gira alrededor de dos artistas de un precario circo ambulante de las afueras de Roma. Patty, una mujer robusta y de pelo rojizo, y Walter, su marido, quienes practican el tiro del cuchillo, el equilibrio con los platos y otras atracciones para su show. Pero todo cambia cuando Patty pierde a su perro y encuentra a Asia, una niña de dos años que ha sido abandonada por su madre. Ellos formarán, junto a un adolescente, una familia nómade mientras esperan que la madre de la criatura vuelva. La Pivellina acierta en su pintura neorrealista y no da demasiadas explicaciones. Combina dos mundos, uno ficticio, y otro real y tangible, que tiene que ver con la infancia perdida y la adopción. No sólo Asia está librada a la buena de Dios en este relato en el que todos buscan formar una familia. Y no se trata de una función más.
Dotada de parejas dosis de originalidad, convicción y sensibilidad, este film italiano conmueve transitando un camino que alterna la ficción con el documental, e impone valores expresivos dentro de una apuesta riesgosa. Porque la trama obliga a forzar a una criatura a situaciones que quizás pudieran resultar traumáticas, pero sin embargo se aprecia que la carismática niña protagonista sale airosa de la prueba, lo mismo que el film. La pivellina cuenta la historia de una nena de 2 años abandonada por su madre en una plaza, que termina siendo adoptada por trabajadores de un circo en plena preparación de su temporada de funciones. Patti, una mujer que esquiva dagas, abocada a tratar de encontrar a su mascota perdida, se topa con este hallazgo inesperado, desconcentrante y perturbador, que modificará sustancialmente su vida y la de su entorno. Los realizadores abordan esta temática teniendo muy en cuenta la circunstancia real y reiterada del abandono de niños en Italia, y el film deambula entre la búsqueda de la madre y el creciente amor que ese dulce y encantador ser va despertando en esa pequeña comunidad. Sin sentimentalismos ni música incidental, con toques neorrealistas y el claro espíritu de un film documental, La pivellina sacude el alma y cuenta con un estupendo elenco de intérpretes no profesionales.
Asia es demasiado pequeña, demasiado vulnerable; con apenas dos años (o casi) ya debió enfrentar el abandono de su madre y adaptarse a un nuevo hogar, con rostros, voces y brazos extraños. Sin embargo tuvo suerte; quienes la acogieron se encariñaron con ella y la harán sentir única. Patty (Patricia Gerardo) es artista de circo y vive en una casa rodante con Walter, su marido (Walter Saabel). Los acompaña además Tairo (Tairo Carodi), un adolescente de 14 años que desde que era niño, cuando sus padres se divorciaron, vive en el mismo terreno baldío en su propio rodado. Es la mujer la que encuentra a la niña y la lleva a vivir con ellos, y entre todos forman la familia que no son. Con una estética que remite al documental (género en el que usualmente trabajan los directores), esta cruda pero delicadísima historia relata con sutileza una realidad tremenda, la de los niños abandonados por sus propios padres. En esta oportunidad, tanto Covi como Frimmel optaron por mostrar una cara diferente de Italia: la de la pobreza, la marginalidad y la desesperación. Pero esta contrasta a su vez con las almas generosas y el amor incondicional de los que menos tienen; en este caso, un grupo que sale de lo común por su estilo de vida. Con tomas largas que denotan tranquilidad, el relato se desarrolla a un ritmo lento, pausado; pero no por eso menos denso y profundo. Naturalistas por momentos y explícitamente trabajadas con filtros en otros, las escenas son cálidas y sutiles. El rojo en sus diversas variantes está constantemente presente, desde el cabello del personaje de Gerardo, pasando por alguna prenda, hasta la atmósfera que los rodea en los ambientes en los que juegan y comparten momentos especiales con la niña. Patty y Walter tienen muchas diferencias entre sí (además de la edad); aunque interiormente parecen idénticos. Tairo, el joven que adopta a Asia como a su propia hermana, ve en ella reflejada su historia y se encarga de hacerla sentir querida y cuidada. Los tres mayores componen personajes creíbles, verdaderos; sin embargo, se destaca Patricia Gerardo, quien traslada a su rostro y su cuerpo el sentimiento de pena que le despierta la niña. Asia se desenvuelve ante las cámaras como si pudiera entender lo que debe contar; puede verse en ella el trabajo que debieron realizar antes los directores y actores para guiarla con tan buen resultado. Lo que en La Pivellina se cuenta es una historia de amor, de lazos incondicionales y de lo que es capaz el ser humano cuando las intenciones y el corazón son buenos.
Y el tiempo nos llevará... Una familia de artistas recoge a una niña abandonada. Los otros tienen un pasado y, posiblemente, un futuro también misterioso. En un punto en la vida, fortuito acaso, se cruzan con nosotros y crean lazos que con el tiempo mutan, se transforman. Y esas mismas personas, esos otros, algún día pueden marcharse y todo lo que les sucederá después será igualmente ajeno e inaccesible. ¿Nos recordarán? ¿Los recordaremos? ¿Será ese cruce en la vida algo importante o nos convertiremos todos en algo borroso, en eso que el tiempo se llevó? La pivellina es una película sobre el tiempo, en más de un sentido. Lo es, porque se centra en el que una niña pasa con una familia: desde que la encuentran hasta que termina la historia, de final abierto. Y es una película sobre el tiempo porque su narrativa se estructura a partir de ese concepto: no es un filme de acontecimientos, es uno de momentos, de lo cotidiano, es el cine como experiencia viva. Asia (“Aia”, lo pronuncia la nena de dos años) es el nombre que le pone Patty a la niña que encuentra un día en un parque, al parecer abandonada. La pelirroja Patty es una artista de un circo ambulante que vive con su marido y un adolescente en condiciones algo precarias en las afueras de Roma. La llegada de “Aia” produce todo un cambio familiar y es motivo para el deleite, el placer, pero también la incomodidad, el peligro y la culpa. Es que, al encontrarla, la chica tenía en su ropa un mensaje pidiendo que la cuiden y que se hagan cargo de ella por un tiempo, hasta que puedan venirla a buscarla. Walter (el marido de Patty) supone que tenerla les traerá problemas con la ley. Ella, consciente de ese peligro, es incapaz de dejarla en un instituto y se hace cargo. Así, mientras las rutinas de preparación del humilde acto circense continúan y las relaciones familiares se van revelando, “Aia” se suma con una simpatía a prueba de todo al esquema. Covi y Frimmel registran esos hechos sin recargar las tintas del drama que está planteado en ese encuentro inicial: hay una tensión circundante que hace que cada acto, por menor que sea, adquiera un carácter dramático. Hay mucho de los Dardenne en el filme de Covi y Frimmel, quienes también son documentalistas con larga experiencia (de hecho, la pareja de artistas circenses aparece en su documental Babooska ) que debutaron en la ficción con este filme que pasó por Cannes 2009. Si algo los diferencia de los belgas es una visión menos oscura de lo cotidiano, más luminosa y cálida. El peligro y los problemas acechan, es cierto, pero quedan casi siempre fuera de campo o se presentan de manera desdramatizada. La pivellina juega en el límite entre la ficción y el documental, pero no sólo por la puesta en escena, sino por la presencia de “Aia”, cuyas actitudes y movimientos, cuya mirada y ternura, son imposibles de ser “dirigidas” por la voluntad de cineastas. Es así que el espectador se va dejando llevar por el relato a través tanto de la experiencia de estos súbitos padres sustitutos, como también mediante la mirada de la niña, esa niña con un pasado misterioso y un futuro que podrá serlo también. O no. Así, el filme crece hasta convertirse en una experiencia emocional devastadora. Con unos pocos elementos, construye un mundo de afectos, de contención, de alegría. Como en Donde viven los monstruos (recién editada en DVD), el filme es un segundo hogar, un resguardo en la tormenta. Afuera, las cosas serán distintas. Mejores o peores, quién sabe. Sí, seguro, serán ajenas, lejanas, misteriosas.
Un film noble, generoso y conmovedor Este multipremiado film, modesto en su producción, noble y generoso en su espíritu y, sobre todo, genuinamente humanista es una joya rara en el cine de hoy. Aquí la emoción no depende de manipulación alguna, ni del impacto visual, ni de los golpes de efecto, ni de las apelaciones sensibleras: emana de la intensa verdad de los personajes, del calor humano y la solidaridad sin retórica que ellos cultivan, y también del rigor puesto por los realizadores en el retrato de sus experiencias. Fogueados en el documental, la italiana Tizza Covi y el austríaco Rainer Frimmel se internan en una pequeña comunidad de artistas errantes e introducen un elemento de ficción que opera como catalizador para observar, manteniéndose siempre cerca del mundo real, cómo son y cómo viven. La historia inventada es la de Aia, una nena de 2 años que ha sido abandonada en un parque y es recogida por una pareja y un adolescente pertenecientes a una pequeña troupe de artistas de circo que se ha instalado a pasar el invierno con sus trailers y sus pocos animales en un alejado suburbio de Roma. La situación puede ser imaginaria, pero no se la ve (ni se la vive) como ficción fundamentalmente porque los personajes, el ambiente físico y social en el que se desenvuelven, sus hábitos cotidianos, sus sentimientos y sus alegrías simples son verdaderos. Cada uno se representa a sí mismo. Patti, una especie de Anna Magnani de pelo rojo, fuerte carácter y espíritu maternal; Walter, su marido, el alemán que es lanzador de cuchillos, entrenador de perros, payaso y forzudo, y Tairo, el adolescente que tras la separación de sus padres ha encontrado en ellos una familia sustituta. En medio del entorno precario (conviene aclarar que no hay aquí pizca de miserabilismo), de las tierras bajas, el clima hostil y los arduos trabajos que imponen tantas carencias, lo que se percibe es solidaridad, benevolencia y amor, un amor del que no hace falta hablar porque está en cada gesto. Esa atmósfera es la que espera a Aia (Asia Grippa, una criatura de gracia absolutamente irresistible), que más que protagonista termina siendo un poco espectadora porque lo que importa en la película no es tanto la pequeña historia de sus días en el campamento sino el retrato de un grupo capaz de transmitir su saber y sus valores, de afirmar su identidad y de preparar a sus hijos para el cambio, y acaso también para un nomadismo que no será necesariamente sólo geográfico. Detrás de ese retrato, del tema del abandono y de la sensible aproximación al nacimiento del amor maternal y de los afectos sobre los que se construye una familia de veras (aunque sea una tan heterodoxa como ésta), hay una sutil observación del cuadro social. Los realizadores trabajan casi continuamente con la cámara en mano, lo que incide en el acercamiento afectivo hacia los cuatro personajes. Todos, por cierto, inolvidables.
Pequeño gran film La ligereza formal de La pivellina proviene tanto de su carácter artesanal como de la libertad con que encauza las eventualidades de una situación siempre abierta a los cambios y los imprevistos. El paisaje es invernal, triste, yermo. En ese suburbio que se adivina de Roma, pero que podría ser el de cualquier otra gran ciudad europea, abundan los monoblocks, los jardines de cemento, las calles desiertas. Si no fuera porque la cabellera de Patty –una italiana que parece la reencarnación de Anna Magnani, aunque más modesta, menos sensual– está teñida de un rojo furioso, se diría que en ese arrabal todo es tan gris y melancólico como el cielo. Pero allí, abandonada entre unas hamacas vacías, brilla otra rara, solitaria mancha de color. Envuelta en un diminuto abrigo rosa, a punto de ser devorada por la noche, hay una nena, de no más de dos años. Está increíble, definitivamente sola. “¿Y tu madre?”, pregunta Patty, desesperada, mirando a diestra y siniestra, para no dar sino con el vacío. Justo ella, que había salido a buscar a su perro (“Hércules”, nunca una mascota tuvo un nombre tan inapropiado), se encuentra con esta “pivellina”, una nenita de la que ya no se podrá desprender. Pequeño gran film, el primer largometraje de ficción de la italiana Tizza Covi y el austríaco Rainer Frimmel es un acto de amor, por sus personajes, por el espacio que habitan y también por el cine, al que honran con una película simple, cálida, noble, que nunca se permite dar un golpe bajo para ser emotiva. Si hubiera que buscar un referente, se podría pensar en el humanismo de Ermanno Olmi, un cineasta injustamente olvidado, que a través del rigor adquirido en el campo del documental supo expurgar a los resabios del neorrealismo italiano de su costado más chirle y sentimental. Documentalistas ellos mismos, Covi y Frimmel son muy conscientes –como el Olmi de Los recuperadores o de El árbol de los zuecos– que no tienen necesidad alguna de embellecer o edulcorar la realidad. La belleza de la realidad está aún allí donde ni siquiera se la imagina, parece decir el film, que nunca fuerza el curso del relato: simplemente deja que la vida se exprese y tome cuerpo delante de la cámara. Con este mismo material, casi cualquier otro director italiano actual –da miedo siquiera pensar en un Tornatore o un Benigni– hubiera hecho un pastel tan edulcorado como indigesto. Por el contrario, la pareja Covi–Frimmel consigue una película a la vez ligera en su forma pero no por ello menos sustanciosa. Esa ligereza proviene, sin duda, de los actores no profesionales, de los escenarios naturales, de su carácter artesanal, pero sobre todo de la libertad con que el film encauza, con una soltura asombrosa, las eventualidades de una situación abierta al cambio y a los imprevistos. Nada más difícil que trabajar con una niña tan pequeña y aquí, sin embargo, nada parece más natural, seguramente porque la película nunca pretende ganarse al público con su simpatía o su ternura. En todo caso, están allí y el film sabe cómo registrarlas y trasmitirlas. Tampoco es que La pivellina, a pesar de lo que su título sugiere, esté exclusivamente al servicio de “Aia”, como dice llamarse la nena, que todavía no puede siquiera pronunciar su nombre, Asia. Por el contrario, los demás personajes también importan, y mucho. Tanto Patty como su marido Walter pertenecen al mundo del circo, pero no hay nada en ellos del patetismo de I clown, de Fellini. Son veteranos, es cierto, y se nota en sus rostros el trajín de una vida itinerante, hecha a bordo de una casa eternamente rodante. Sin embargo, no hay en ellos esa tristeza cruel con la que habitualmente se asocia a los payasos, sino en todo caso el tácito orgullo de saber que pueden vivir dignamente de su oficio, al margen de las presiones y demandas de la sociedad de consumo. La pivellina es también eso: una película sobre la periferia, sobre aquello que no está en el centro, sino en los márgenes, sobre la encrucijada moral –que es también política– de unos personajes como Patty y Walter, que nunca se proclaman anarquistas pero viven como tales. ¿Por qué habrían de notificar a la policía sobre esa pivellina? Si la madre la abandonó, y promete volver a buscarla, como dice en una nota anónima, es que habrá tenido sus razones, y muy poderosas. La personalidad visceral de Patty puede chocar con el cauto realismo de Walter, pero ambos saben que la solidaridad entre pares está por encima de las conveniencias personales. Ya se verá... las familias a veces son más grandes de lo que parecen. Lo mismo que algunas películas, como La pivellina.
Cine del instante Hay algo extraño en un documentalista que decide pasarse a la ficción. En este caso, una pareja de documentalistas. No se trata de la supuesta división que existiría entre el cine "de ficción" y el cine "documental" (división que, por otra parte, muchas películas en la actualidad se dedican a borrar de forma deliberada), sino de una cierta cualidad de lo cinematográfico que pasa a primer plano. Si seguimos, por ejemplo, unas viejas palabras de Godard ("toda película es un documental de su filmación"), nos resulta que todo cine (de acción en vivo) es en esencia documental: la cámara registra lo que está frente a ella. De este modo, aun cuando se encastra en un marco de ficción, toda imagen cinematográfica resulta una exploración de lo real, es decir, un documental. Se trata, por otra parte (y para seguir mencionando, ¿por qué no?, a Godard) del camino que emprendió el cine desde su paso a la modernidad con los nuevos cines. Si todo el cine es documental, no debería sorprendernos que este matrimonio haya dejado (un poco) de lado el trabajo sobre el "género" documental para contar esta historia. ¿Por qué insistir tanto sobre la cualidad documental de todo cine? Porque si bien en La Pivellina se narra una historia (ficcional), lo que resulta más fascinante de esta película es el peso que adquieren las imágenes en sí mismas, en lo que revelan. Esas imágenes funcionan con una dinámica que no podría reglamentarse, como en un rodaje tradicional. La historia de La Pivellina es simple: una pareja de unos cincuenta años, que trabaja en el circo y vive en las afueras de Roma, en una casa rodante, encuentra un día a una niña (una "pivellina") de dos años que fue abandonada en una plaza, en una hamaca. Sobre la campera de la nena hay abrochada una nota en la que la madre pide ("con desesperación", según dice la protagonista, aunque nosotros nunca llegamos a leer la nota) a quien encuentre a su hija que la cuide unos días hasta que ella vuelva. El matrimonio le da refugio, la cuida. Se suma también un chico adolescente, hijo de otra familia circense, que vive en una casa rodante a su lado y por las tardes, después del colegio, se dedica a cuidarla también. Todo girará en torno a la relación de estos tres personajes con la nena. Podría haberse tratado de una historia trágica, pero algo del gozo real de la vida frente a la cámara se transmite en una película llena de matices. Como queda claro, aunque se trata de una película de ficción, el argumento es mínimo y la cámara de esta pareja se dedica más a la exploración de lo cotidiano que a la narración. Si uno conoce las circunstancias en las que se filmó La Pivellina, se comprenderá hasta qué punto esta película pudo haberse tratado de un documental. No solo Frimmel y Covi ya habían realizado antes un documental sobre gente que trabaja en el circo (Babooska, 2005), sino que, de hecho, todas las personas que actúan en esta película son ("en la vida real") artistas circenses. La pivellina es hija de una de estas familias. Acostumbrados, entonces, a trabajar en estos contextos, Frimmel y Covi se dedicaron, con una idea básica mínima, a filmar. Y lograron una gran película. No solo salen airosos del desafío de filmar una película prácticamente protagonizada por una nena de dos años (desafío que, por otra parte, solo puede pensarse en una filmación de este tipo), sino que además consiguen una larga sucesión de escenas fascinantes, por lo emotivo, por lo visual, por lo vital. Filmar con chicos es muy difícil, no solo por lo que implica trabajar con niños actores (como ya dijimos), sino fundamentalmente por el riesgo que implica estéticamente, por la facilidad con la que se puede caer (y normalmente se cae) en posturas fáciles, en sentimentalismos blandos, en miradas condescendientes. La mirada de Frimmel y Covi es una mirada dura, que muchos asocian con la de los Dardenne, pero que deja a su vez lugar al momento emotivo, a la mirada directa de una nena de dos años que no entiende lo que es el cine, que simplemente es frente a la cámara.
Imagen inicial: una mujer de mediana edad y furioso pelo rojo está buscando a Hércules. El susodicho es su perro, y dado que ese nombre es sinónimo de fuerza en la mitología, pareciera que lo que Patty (Patrizia Gerardi) busca es precisamente eso. Conllevará fuerza de carácter hacerse cargo de la situación a la que se ve enfrentada: no encuentra al perro pero sí a una niña abandonada en la hamaca de una plaza. “Aia”, como dice llamarse la pequeña, interpretada por Asia Crippa, tiene consigo una nota donde la madre dice que volverá por ella en un tiempo. Los directores, autores de dos films documentales previos – Das ist alles (2001) y Babooska (2005)-, incursionan por primera vez en el cine ficcional, pero sin perder la impronta documental. Cámara en mano y planos cerrados, sonido natural sin música extradiegética, actores no profesionales, son elecciones estéticas para desarrollar el relato de esta relación entre una niña adorable y su familia temporaria. Patty y Walter, encarnado por Walter Saabel, (pareja que ya actuó de sí misma en el film anterior del matrimonio Covi-Frimmel), conforman una dupla que ronda los sesenta años y trabaja en un circo de barrio en las afueras de Roma. Viven en una casa rodante, de manera muy modesta pero no indigente. Para cuidar a la niña interviene Tairo (Tairo Caroli), un adolescente que recupera su propia infancia con la llegada de “la pivellina”. Este costado menos glamoroso de Italia (incluso hasta el clima es inhóspito, lluvioso y nublado), está claramente alejado de la imagen for export de una Roma soleada y capitalista. Sin embargo no es una denuncia, sino la representación de una realidad. El film, que muy bien podría haberse tratado del abandono, de la pobreza y la marginación, se trata, muy por el contrario, del amparo y la riqueza del espíritu humano. El eje del relato es la felicidad en la infancia desde la sencillez y la sensibilidad. Claramente en la búsqueda de este objetivo, los directores han apuntado en la dirección correcta porque el film viene cosechando premios desde su estreno: en Cannes, en Pesaro, en Kiev, en Valdivia, en Uruguay y también aquí, en Buenos Aires, en el BAFICI de este año ganó el premio UNICEF.
Algunos críticos han definido a esta obra maestra como representante de un nuevo neorrealismo. Lo cierto es que hay muchos puntos de contacto con aquel movimiento italiano, sobre todo con la recuperación de las imágenes de la Italia profunda y aguda que el gobierno de Berlusconi pretende no mostrar. Por otro lado, es inevitable pensar en El Pibe, del genial Chaplin, a quien se hace referencia en una foto periodística muy sutilmente. El resto lo constituye una trama mínima que gira en torno a la infancia y al desamparo sin gravedad y con una dosis de verdad espeluznante pero conmovedora y contundente a la vez, donde la cámara prácticamente se hace invisible y de a poco se inserta -como un espectador más- en ese maravilloso mundo del circo ambulante. Sin duda una de las mejores películas del año...
La pivellina, de Tizza Covi y Rainer Frimmel se exhibió, junto a las dos películas anteriores de los directores, en el último Bafici, en donde Tizza Covi estuvo como jurado de la competencia argentina. La pivellina podría ser definida, veloz y vulgarmente, así: “una de los Dardenne pero luminosa y simpática”; “una de realismo europeo con alma, corazón y un poco de Rossellini”. También puede decirse que La pivellina es una de las películas imperdibles de este año, que puede describirse como la historia de un encuentro y de una convivencia. Una familia de gente de circo en la que se destaca la matriarca Patty, una cincuentona o sesentona con el pelo de estridente rojo, que encuentra una nena abandonada con una notita en la que la madre dice que por favor la cuiden hasta su regreso. La nena es Asia, “la pivellina”, de unos dos años, que pasa a formar parte de este grupo (y si Asia posee una enorme fotogenia, no menos enorme es la capacidad de Covi y Frimmel para captarla; no es nada fácil trabajar con niños de esa edad). Ojo, la película no es “una de gente de circo”, es una de gente que tiene un trabajo con temporadas altas y temporadas bajas, que vive en un barrio urbanísticamente feo de Roma, que tiene animales, que cobija a la encantadora Asia. Esta es una película que abre –con la cercanía de la aparente sencillez y la distancia y sensibilidad de verdaderos cineastas-observadores–, un mundo cercano, sensible, tangible. O, mejor dicho, un micromundo entrañable.
Small is beautiful. Lo que realmente importa en La pivellina es la materia. El circo puede ser un rectángulo marcado en el terreno con unas varillas de metal clavadas en la tierra sobre las que se ponen a girar unos platos en precario equilibrio, por ejemplo. A Walter, “El alemán”, le basta con pintarse un poco la cara y ya está listo para hacer el anuncio: vengan al circo, vengan a ver el espectáculo. Es un asunto de supervivencia el que mueve a sus integrantes, se trabaja con lo que hay; el oficio está marcado por la escasez y las vueltas de la vida. Es invierno y en el suburbio romano casi todo el tiempo parece que se va a largar a llover. Es decir, puede haber espectadores como puede no haberlos. Si sale algo en otro lado hay que levantar campamento e ir sin demasiadas dilaciones hacia allí, adonde esté el pan. La pivellina no es una película sobre el circo aunque trate en parte sobre gente que se dedica a él. En un gesto casi imperceptible, los directores parecen postular que formar parte del circo es un modo de ser en el mundo. Es estar siempre atentos, esperando a ver qué ocurre; hay que tener cintura para que no nos hieran los cuchillos, se debe tener en claro que el trabajo dura unos pocos meses y después solo queda apechugar el resto del año; es estar con los ojos abiertos, atentos con lo que pueda salirnos al cruce. La pivellina, la pequeña niña a la que alude el título y que Patti se encuentra mientras recorre en busca de su perro el paraje desolado que representa por esta vez su barrio, es un cuerpito que balbucea sentado solo en una hamaca en el medio de la plaza, materia abandonada que florece en la tarde fría. Con una justeza implacable, la película registra el flujo oscilante de relaciones que se establece a partir del momento en el que la niña ingresa impensadamente en la familia circense que componen Patti, su marido Walter y el adolescente Tairo, que no es hijo de ellos pero es prácticamente como si lo fuera Entrenados en el documental (este es su primer trabajo de ficción), los directores Covi y Frimmel realizan la proeza de evitar toda petición de principios innecesaria, todo dictamen que venga a contaminar la exposición marcadamente ascética de los hechos. Pero esos hechos tienen de algún modo aristas enigmáticas (¿por qué abandonaron a la pivellina?, ¿vendrán realmente a buscarla en algún momento como parece prometer un papelito que Patti encuentra en un bolsillo de la niña?), y la tentación de dedicarse a tratar de resolverlas y a jugar con el suspenso que de ellas podría derivarse es fuerte. Sin embargo, los directores parecen decir que al cine no le concierne otra cosa que la observación descarnada. Consecuentemente, el espectador es invitado a no dejarse jamás arrebatar por la impaciencia. En ese sentido, la película puede recordar un poco al cine de los hermanos Dardenne, solo que con más gracia, belleza y fluidez. Al revés de lo que suele pasar con los directores belgas, La pivellina no aparenta responder a una idea previa sobre el mundo que el cine viene a poner en imágenes (todo lo justas y oportunas que se quiera) sino que tiende a construirse serena y sutilmente delante del espectador. Como en el momento en el que se ve por primera vez, con toda claridad, el vínculo de amor que une a Walter con la pivellina cuando habla por teléfono con Patti y se aprecia en el fondo del plano una foto que se sacó junto a la niña. Lo que parece refutarse de este modo es la existencia de una verdad anterior a la película. Pero no es solo eso. La pivellina es una película profundamente anclada en la materialidad de las cosas, y acaso de esa vocación es de donde surge la inconsolable urgencia de sus planos: se debe mirar en torno nuestro, si no, hay porciones del mundo que desaparecen, acaso para siempre. Si, como todo parece indicar, el del circo es un oficio en vías de extinción, es imperioso entonces filmar a su gente y las pequeñas rutinas que le son propias. Pero lo asombroso (e inquietante) es que todo eso no parecía existir antes de que lo miráramos. O antes de que la cámara lo hiciera. En La pivellina se esgrime una realidad material del circo, anclada en los vaivenes de la fortuna y en la necesidad cruda de la supervivencia, en oposición a la idea del mismo que el espectador guarda en su cabeza. Pero lo más curioso es que esa verdad podría estar solidarizándose con una verdad del cine análoga: un registro que se predica de lo cotidiano, sin glamour alguno, más que nada un asunto de artesanos con todos los sentidos alertas y la piel en carne viva. Si el cine no está allí para verificar su existencia puede que haya algo del mundo que se pierda. Pero sin un mundo que cambie constantemente (como si el mundo fuera una esencia, una idea inmutable) el cine no tendría entonces razón de ser. Con inusual atrevimiento y convicción, con unos pocos actores extraordinarios, más la presencia radiante de la nena de dos años Asia Grippa como la pivellina, la película parece devolverle al cine el nexo poderoso con la realidad circundante así como la capacidad de producir lo maravilloso sencillamente a fuerza de buscar con la vista a nuestro alrededor. A ver con qué nos encontramos: un pequeño detalle, hermoso como esa niña, es capaz de hacer la diferencia que lo trastoca todo. Parte de la angustia indecible del mundo capturado en la película y trasladado a los espectadores se pone de manifiesto en la conciencia de que, de un momento a otro, la pivellina podría dejar de ser parte de nuestra familia.
Cruza sorprendente del cine de los Dardenne en clave optimista y el universo de Fellini, La pivellina es, con su poética y su sencillez, un film indispensable. ¿Qué ocurriría si los hermanos Dardenne se despertaran un día, sintiendo que en esos momentos vitales que suelen rescatar, la felicidad simple y pura es posible? Filmarían La pivellina. Cruza sorprendente del cine de los realizadores belgas, y lo más bello del mundo de Gelsomina – personaje de La strada -, esta película de Tizza Covi y Rainer Frimmel cuenta la historia de la relación entre Patti, Asia, Tairo y Walter. Patti, una mujer deteriorada, teñida de un rojo furioso, encuentra abandonada en la plaza a la pequeña Asia, una hermosa beba de aproximadamente dos años. En su campera guarda una nota de su madre, en la que dice que volverá a buscarla. Por esto, y por lo que produce en su vida, Patti decide no llevar a la niña a la policía y mantenerla en su casa. Esta vivienda es una casa rodante, pequeña, instalada en un terreno donde otros viven en containers, trailers e instalaciones similares y precarias. Entre sus vecinos se encuentra el adolescente Tairo, de catorce años, apenas acompañado por su abuela, también instalada en ese terreno, en los márgenes de Roma. Patti y su esposo Walter son gente de circo, no tienen hijos, y carecen de la estabilidad económica necesaria para mantener a la pequeña Asia. Con la llegada de la niña, ese grupo rápidamente se reconstituye para establecer una relación familiar cálida, asumiendo roles que parecen haber olvidado o perdido entre las propias contingencias de la vida. Para Patti, Tario y Walter lo cotidiano se transforma. Como si lo esperaran, como si lo hubieran deseado desde siempre, cada uno de ellos asume un lugar y un rol que los devuelve a la estabilidad afectiva y personal, a la obligación de cuidado y protección. El joven Tario, quien tuvo una niñez abandonada, que se arregla solo con su corta vida, recupera su propia edad, asume el lugar del hermano mayor, en la dialéctica de adulto y niño, jugando y cuidando a la pequeña Asia. Esta aparición del niño perdido, que estaba vedado por una vida complicada, es central para comprender la profundidad de esta película. Lo que ocurre en La pivellina es lo cotidiano. Filmada con cámara en mano, cercana, muy cercana a los personajes. Dispuesta la escena en los márgenes de la ciudad, que se pierde, que carece de identidad, pero sin embargo expulsa (no solo a los protagonistas, sino también a la mamá ausente), la trama encuentra a los que luchan la diaria, pero en esos mismos términos, los impulsa a la felicidad. Es en esta dialéctica, donde la película se hace sabia. Bellísima, divertida, con momentos de un altísimo nivel poético, La pivellina es una película sencilla y que, con esa misma simpleza de lo real, es indispensable ver.
La más bella niña Con seguridad, la mejor actriz del festival es Asia Crippa, una de las protagonistas de La Pivellina. Lo singular es que probablemente no alcance los tres años de edad. Así y todo, Crippa brilla en la pantalla con sus gestos y sus palabras entrecortadas que muy pocas veces brindaron tanta verdad en el cuerpo de un niño actor. Cuando dice no, cuando come con la cuchara, cuando se ríe, no se puede ver una pizca de obligación. Si se la ve feliz, la pivellina está feliz. Y no sólo se trata de ella, todos los personajes que la rodean con afecto no hacen más que ser de verdad. En este eco del neorrealismo italiano que nos llega en colores rutilantes, una familia circense de esas que le resta importancia a los lazos de sangre, encuentra a esta nena sola en una plaza y se la lleva a vivir con ellos. En medio de remolques, charcos de agua y la falta de trabajo de esta Roma poco glamorosa, el único conflicto –y no por eso menos inquietante– es el riesgo de que la dichosa estancia de Asia (el personaje y la actriz llevan el mismo nombre) se acabe en algún momento. Su irrupción cambia la vida de toda la familia, y como ellos quieren creer cuando imaginan el horrible pasado de un niño que llega a ser abandonado, cambia para bien la vida de la pivellina. Por eso se dedican a darle todo el cariño del mundo en el menor tiempo posible mientras Tiza Covi y Rainer Frimmel los siguen con una cámara que conoce la vibración del cine documental y hace que el amor se sienta. Y nada en el cine puede ser más importante que sentir.
All you need is love Cuando apareció el neorrealismo italiano, de alguna manera, trajo ese aire de frescura que el cine de la península estaba necesitando para airear los grandes salones de teléfonos blancos donde se desarrollaban los melodramas gastados por el uso (político). Las cámaras a la calle, la utilización de actores no profesionales, las historias cotidianas y del pueblo -entre otras tantas cosas-, fueron su aporte. Y de allí, entonces, parece abrevar La pivellina. Del sentimentalismo de Ladrones de bicicleta y la marginalia pasoliniana, de la extrañeza epifánica de los filmes de Rossellini y el locus circense y la pureza naive de ciertos personajes fellinianos. Elementos observados al mejor estilo de los Dardenne. Y con el rigor que aporta el género documental. La italiana Tizza Covi y el austríaco Rainer Frimmel -los realizadores-, se asomaron al mundo cinematográfico como documentalistas y en éste, su primer filme de ficción, aprovechan con inteligencia y maestría aquellos recursos procedimentales que tan bien demostraron manejar en sus dos primeros trabajos. Asia, una pibita de 2 años, está sola en una plaza. Una mujer que buscaba a su perro perdido la encuentra y la lleva a su hogar. Pero su hogar no es una casa común sino una casa rodante estacionada en un baldío, en la periferia de Roma, rodeada de otros trailers, parte de un circo ambulante. Un sitio que cuando llueve se anega y el piso de tierra se vuelve charcos de barro. Donde el municipio se niega a devolver la electricidad y el agua se consigue conectando una manguera al surtidor de la calle. Una Roma que ni la RAI ni Berlusconi reconocen como real. Pero que late y vive profundamente. La mujer, Patti, no está sola. Tiene un marido, Walter. Y con ellos anda por allí un adolescente de 14 años, Tairo, hijo de una pareja amiga ya separada, con el que intentan sostener la ilusión de un espectáculo circense que carece de público pero no de ganas. Porque de ilusiones y de ganas está hecha esta película. Donde los protagonistas, una vez que descubren, merced a un papel en la campera de la pequeña, que ésta ha sido abandonada por su madre, procuran resolver la situación siempre pensando en lo mejor para la niña. Con lo que tienen y con lo que les falta. De la denuncia a la policía a la posibilidad de la adopción, pasando por los juegos, no hay intento en los mayores que no conlleve una carga de amor, de ese (amor) que se ofrece sin sobreabundancia de discursos ni palabras bellas. Familias que se eligen (y en esa elección fundan la Ley) haciendo del cuidado del otro la única condición imprescindible de convivencia, creando lazos comunitarios basados en la solidaridad y otorgando al cariño la razón primordial y primera para ser (humano). Con una cámara certera y precisa, que permite asomarse a estos días compartidos por extraños sin hacernos sentir a los espectadores como intrusos ni voyeurs, y un manejo de los no actores de fina percepción y sensibilidad, la puesta va relatando un tiempo otro que habla, por comparación y diferencia, del nuestro. Tan egoísta, tan ombliguista, tan ventajero, tan cínico. Y nos interpela sin la recurrencia al golpe bajo ni al trazo grueso sentimentaloide. Las risas y sonrisas que matizan y asoman en varios momentos del relato se imponen y resuenan, largamente, en nuestros oídos aún mucho después del visionado de la película. La pivellina es para agradecer porque nos permite volver a aprender a respirar aire puro. Un aire que buena falta nos hace.
La señora del pelo rojo La pivellina es una muestra de gran cine. No se dejen amedrentar porque la publicidad habla del “Nuevo cine italiano” o que la cantidad de premios que cosechó los haga sospechar que es una de esas películas que en un festival funciona pero que afuera apesta. En el comienzo Patty, una señora mayor de pelo rojo busca a un perro, Hércules, pero en su búsqueda da con una nena que está en una hamaca. Patty se lleva a la nena con ella porque está por llover y ya en su casa descubre una nota en la ropa de la nena. No va a la policía como aconsejaría la lógica, sino que la deja en su casa. Patty vive en un asentamiento de casas rodantes, gente lumpen, artistas; no es gente a la que le sobre nada lo que no impide que integren a la nena, que se irá haciendo un miembro más del grupo con el que vive la señora de pelo rojo. Una historia simple en los suburbios de Roma, ni más ni menos. No son los feos sucios y malos de Ettore Scola, son gente precarizada que vive apenas al margen del sistema y que no le entrega la nena a la policía porque confía en que la madre vendrá a buscarla en algún momento y sienten una especie de obligación por esa mujer que se vio obligada a dejar a su hija. De cierta manera los directores Tizza Covi y Rainer Frimmel reactualizan con una inusitada potencia el neorrealismo, lo que convierte a La pivellina en una película que no hay que dejar pasar.
Fugaz regreso al mundo de la infancia La película comienza con una búsqueda: Patty (una mujer de cabello rojo y apariencia temperamental), sale en busca de su perro encontrando, sorpresivamente, a una hermosa beba sobre una hamaca, sin ningún adulto a la vista. Cuando la lleva consigo para darle algo de abrigo y comida, descubrimos que vive en una casa rodante y trabaja con su marido en un circo. Pronto queda claro, también, que esa búsqueda es el inicio de otra, que la película emprende con la misma naturalidad y falta de estridencias de esas primeras imágenes: el interés de La pivellina es internarse en el corazón de Italia, transitar junto a sus personajes sus calles, casillas y comercios escoltados por grises monoblocks y regados por una lluvia melancólica. Debutantes en la ficción, los directores Tizza Covi (1971, Bozen, Italia) y Rainer Frimmel (1971, Viena, Austria) han sabido sacar provecho de su experiencia en el cine documental, ya que la historia respira verismo. El sondeo por la realidad social de los italianos (con referencias a la desocupación y a problemas económicos de distinto tipo) se fusiona con la carga de inocencia y sorpresa que depara el encuentro con la pivellina: todos, empezando por Patty (Patrizia Gerardi, expresiva actriz no profesional) y el adolescente Tairo (un simpático Tairo Carolli) parecen valorar –a través de la encantadora nena– el mundo de la infancia, redescubriendo el placer de jugar y de conocer cosas nuevas. Como corresponde en una película que, sumando momentos aparentemente triviales, termina siendo una sensible reflexión sobre la niñez, es central el hecho de aprender: a hacer una comida, a pronunciar bien una palabra, a defenderse con hombría, a conocer la historia del país, a resolver incluso una situación inesperada como ésta que se le presenta a esta atípica familia. La niña es una posibilidad que se les aparece para dar y recibir afecto, para pensar sobre sus vidas, para cambiar algo tal vez. Es cierto que la idea no es original (recuerda a Ladrón de niños, por ejemplo, e incluso Gerardi tiene algo de la Fernanda Montenegro de Estación Central), con innegable herencia del neorrealismo y manifiestos tópicos de la cultura italiana (cariñosos besos, personajes extrovertidos, el drama combinado con el humor), pero cabe aclarar de inmediato que aquí no hay sensiblería ni desplantes dramáticos, ni siquiera música incidental. Es elogiable, en este sentido, la decisión de mantener fuera de campo el espectáculo del circo, con sus brillos y colores, así como tampoco aparecen algunos personajes que se nombran (no conviene adelantar aquí cuáles). De esta manera, la historia no se encamina hacia el enigma policial ni cede a las convenciones del melodrama: lo que La pivellina procura es, más que nada, invitar al espectador a encontrar en las preocupaciones y sentimientos de sus queribles personajes los suyos propios.
Historia mínima Tras un inicio exitoso en Cannes 2009, que se repitió en cuanto festival la exhibió, La pivellina es una de las pocas películas italianas que ha capturado tanto a la crítica como al público. ¿Cuál es su secreto? ¿Una película sin mafias? Escrita por Tizza Covi y codirigida por ella y Rainer Frimmel, La pivellina sostiene su relato mínimo a través de un retrato amoroso acerca de todos los personajes implicados en “resolver” el destino de una niña de 2 años. Desde el plano inicial en el que una mujer con el pelo teñido de bordó busca a su perro por las inmediaciones de una plaza, y en vez de encontrar a la mascota halla a una niña abandonada, no solamente se confirma una estética de documental a una ficción sino también una impronta humanista asignada a una visión. El mundo de Patty no es el típico escenario del primer mundo. O quizá sí. Vive con su marido en un parking de caravanas, en uno de los tantos suburbios cercanos a Roma. Los dos trabajan como animadores circenses. Es una vida casi marginal, aunque la violencia parece erradicada. Si la madre vendrá por su hija o no, si la policía descubrirá la “adopción” irregular, son elementos que aquí tienen poca importancia. No es allí donde La pivellina resplandece y obtiene su fuerza. Es que el pequeño milagro de este filme tan pequeño como su protagonista pasa por mostrar una modalidad vincular en la que el cuidado por el otro no connota ninguna operación mercantil, ni ninguna evaluación y cálculo egoísta. La cámara encuentra un estilo de vida en el que la solidaridad no es un valor sino una práctica. Además, lateralmente, Covi y Frimmel develan un tipo de masculinidad alejada del machismo patotero. Sus personajes varones son capaces de ternura; en ese sentido, el amor que emana de Tairo, el adolescente del filme, es sencillamente una revelación. Su personaje justifica la película.
Lo primero que debería decirse de esta producción italiana es que en realidad esta exageradamente sobrevalorada. Lo segundo, que bien mirada no es más que una burda traslación del clásico de Charles Chaplin “El Pibe” (1921). Lo tercero, es que si hubiese sido una producción argentina la estarían defenestrando por miles de razones a saber.En principio es un filme no creíble, nada de lo que sucede durante el transcurrir de la historia y que intenta posicionarlo como un filme realista es verosímil. Una mujer mientras recorre la zona buscando a su perro encuentra a una nena de 2 años en una hamaca de un modesto parque, en medio de una tarde desolada de invierno. La nena no llora, no se ríe, no hace nada, esta ahí. La mujer se queda esperando que alguien la venga a buscar hasta que decide llevarse con ella a su casa. Se trata de gente de bajos recursos económicos, cuyo accionar esta dado sin ningún tipo de fundamento. Las escenas se van sucediendo en forma aislada, ninguna tiene relación ni con la anterior ni con la siguiente. No hay progresión dramática, sólo sucesos que intentan cubrir temporalmente hasta llegar el espacio establecido para ser presentado como un largometraje... No hay guión sino una idea aislada, ni siquiera original, para culminar con un final sin justificación y extremadamente pretencioso Lo único rescatable es la niña, toda una joyita de ser humano en desarrollo. Como para comprársela. El personaje se llama Asia, y la pequeña gran actriz Asia Crippa, la única que podría hacerle alguna sombra al Jackie Coogan, de la inolvidable obra citada del genial Chaplin.
Ese otro cine Sorpresivamente, agosto se convertirá en un mes lleno de cine en la docta, una ciudad que tímidamente parece volver a querer justificar su histórico apodo, y que alberga una comunidad cinéfila joven y fuerte, en franca expansión. Acaso la razón esté en el crecimiento exponencial que viene experimentando el circuito de exhibición independiente, y para muestra basta un botón: el fin de semana se estrenaron dos de las mejores películas del año, La Pivellina, de los italianos Tizza Covi y Rainer Frimmel, y Policía, adjetivo, el gran filme del rumano Corneliu Porumboiu. La primera continuará en exhibición en el Complejo Showcase al menos por dos días más, mientras que la segunda ya pasó por el Cine Teatro Córdoba, que planea festejar su mes aniversario con todo (el jueves estrenará la argentina La Tigra, Chaco, de Federico Godfrid y Juan Sasiaín; y el 26 de agosto Independencia, del filipino Raya Martin, y Z-32, del israelí Avi Mograbi). Se trata de un programa heterogéneo y sofisticado, que reivindica al cine como un arte mayor, y al que se agrega la Muestra de Cineclubes de Córdoba, que durante todo agosto repasará documentales argentinos, con la visita de sus directores. El banquete está entonces servido, estimado lector; esperemos estar a la altura. La Pivellina Vale la pena decir unas palabras sobre La Pivellina, un filme por completo diferente al anterior, pero que acaso comparte con aquél una misma concepción cinematográfica, una misma voluntad por respetar y reflejar aquellas realidades olvidadas en la gran pantalla. Filmada casi en su totalidad con cámara en mano, en los suburbios de Roma, La Pivellina narra el encuentro de una pareja ya mayor, de animadores de circo, con una pequeña niña de dos años, a quien adoptarán temporalmente ante el supuesto abandono de su madre. La solidaridad, los lazos de amor no filiales, el sentido comunitario de una clase social, son los temas centrales que se van desgranando de esta película mínima pero reveladora, de una humanidad inversamente proporcional a sus ambiciones, que no recurre nunca al golpe fácil, y que tiene la gran virtud de mostrar otras formas posibles de existencia, aún en los márgenes de la sociedad.
