Mujer Maravilla: El tardío y mejor inicio de DCEU. A pesar de los pronósticos que se venían barajando acerca del DC Extended Universe, el film de Patty Jenkins demuestra ser un producto consistente y altamente entretenido. Una excelente película que narra los inicios de la mujer perteneciente a la más celebrada triada de héroes. No vamos a entrar en la en la ya desgastada discusión sobre cómo fue encarado el universo DC en su versión cinéfila, sobre la visión con que la dotaron Zack Snyder y David S. Goyer. Tal vez hasta resulta innecesario ya que Patty Jenkins supo dar al film de la heroína por antonomasia del cómic una impronta tan personal como independiente, sin dejar de lado el bagaje hasta hoy alcanzado con los filmes anteriores. Geoff Johns y Allan Heinberg son quienes idearon la historia en base al personaje que creara William M. Marston en los tempranos cuarentas, y que no está de más decir todo un adelanto en la visión femenina y su sitio en los sucesos del mundo. Porque esta reseña, crítica o como quieran llamarle, no puede comenzar sin atender a la idea original que se tuvo al crear este personaje. “Wonder Woman es una propaganda psicológica para el nuevo tipo de mujer que debería ser, en mi opinión, para gobernar el mundo”. La independiente y poderosa fémina capaz de luchar y derrotar en combate a su contrincante y que no por ello perdiera las cualidades que él creía eran propias de su género; eficientes, honestas, confiables, capaces del sacrificio por un bien mayor, con un poder superior de soportar el dolor y ser capaces de enfrentar la adversidad por sus propios medios. Lejos de la mujer que se cultivaba en los años de la 2° Guerra Mundial. Esta no quedaba atrás en el hogar esperando al marido que combatía en el frente. Todo comienza con el deseo de la reina Hipólita de tener una hija, descendencia en un mundo de mujeres sin niños. Es así que crea de la arcilla la niña que el mismo Zeus dotará de vida como otros dioses de dones. Criada como una más de las amazonas en la isla de Temiscira la joven demostró ser la gran guerrera que se esperaba que fuera y más a pesar de los deseos de su madre. Porque ella guarda un secreto, ella es el poder encarnado, una hija de dioses. Con un esplendoroso prólogo somos testigos de la educación, de la iniciación de Diana en el mundo de las guerreras, una historia de origen en todos los aspectos, pero que no descuida la aventura en ningún momento. Porque la película ha logrado que sea esto, una epopeya en todas sus acepciones; el camino iniciático que ella transita, lejos de una compleja mitología que distraiga, el propósito es sostenido hasta el final; narrar una buena historia de acción y crecimiento emocional del personaje. Algo que se agradece enormemente. Y que la directora lleva con buen pulso a lo largo de más de dos horas. Con una Gal Gadot que carga sobre su frente la tiara con presencia y arrojo, dándole a la mujer maravilla una conmovedora inocencia sobre el mundo de los hombres como un incomparable intrepidez. Es perfecta heredera de la ya mítica Lynda Carter y su creación allá por los años setentas. Han sabido actualizar al personaje más allá de que la historia transcurre en la primera Guerra (1914-1918), la madre de todas las guerras. Y es la incapacidad de ella de comprender tanta destrucción y muerte, un poco la visión que el espectador tiene, haciendo un interesante juego de visones. Nosotros también nos asombramos ante tanta destrucción, como la acaecida en aquella contienda internacional. Aventura pura y dura que no deja de mostrar nuestra capacidad para la destrucción que de alguna manera empata con esa visión un tanto pesimista de la humanidad que ya tuvieron los filmes que la precedieron, pero que esta vez supieron dar una imaginería más cercana a filmes como el Superman de Richard Donner. Es decir, el héroe ante la adversidad no deja de tener fe en que se puede revertir si se encara con amor. Así de sencillo, es el amor a la humanidad lo que hace de la Mujer Maravilla un ser excepcional en todo sentido, su deseo de demostrar que a través de él se pueden superar los escollos. En el Hombre de Acero (2013) supimos escuchar “Darás a los habitantes de la Tierra un ideal por el que luchar. Intentarán seguirte. Tropezaran. Caerán. Pero con el tiempo se unirán a ti en el Sol, Kal“. Aquí radica mucho de lo que ha sabido dotar Patty Jenkins al film, con personajes que saben acompañar a la guerrera; Chris Pine con un solvente y querible Steve Trevor, Robin Wright y Connie Nielsen como madre y tía, como reina y comandante, David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, están para dar profundidad a un acabado marco que funciona y promete. Es una apasionante travesía que realizamos y que gracias a un apartado técnico impecable se luce y disfruta. Ha llegado la hora de la heroína, la presentación en todo su renovado esplendor y salen airosos del combate, dejan una película que es un origen y una aventura, un film de acción narrado con brío que destaca hasta hoy y que ojalá sea un ejemplo a seguir en la continua expansión del DCU.
La noticia es que finalmente DC hizo una muy buena película de uno de los personajes principales de su “trinidad” en lo que viene siendo un rocoso camino para construir su universo cinematográfico expandido. Gal Gadot como la princesa Diana de Themyscira fue lo mejor de la despareja “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, y ella es todavía mejor, encabezando su propia aventura en solitario. Luego de ver este film, nadie extrañará al encapotado y al hombre de acero. “Mujer Maravilla” no sólo mejora muchas de las deficiencias que encontramos a diario en películas de superhéroes, sino que también le imprime inteligencia, sentimiento y adrenalina en el mejor estilo del viejo Hollywood. Esta es una película pochoclera de las buenas, no importa el género. Y logra esta hazaña aunque se circunscribe a un tropo del género: la historia de origen, y afortunadamente le escapa al continuismo del DCEU, sin coyuntura “Mujer Maravilla” funciona perfecto. El film brilla en los detalles. Los chistes estilo Marvel están contenidos, resultando más graciosos en dosis menores, el romance tiene química: la belleza descomunal de la pareja protagonista hace combustión en pantalla, los ojos profundos y oscuros de Gadot y los adorables azules de Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) son una combinación potente, y las peleas tienen un in crescendo natural, de las patadas y piñas, a los sablazos de espada hasta llegar a la lucha de poderes sobrenaturales. Todo resulta orgánico y no forzado. Un tercer acto con algunos agujeros en la trama no hieren la sensación final de diversión e inspiración, no por nada la mujer maravilla es a 75 años de su creación, todavía un icono feminista global. La directora Patty Jenkins (“Monster” 2003) además de explotar ese costado con gracia y sutilezas, se da el lujo de crear en el proceso una película anti-bélica. La guerra se ve real, con vidas perdidas, miembros separados, campos devastados y huérfanos que nunca se reunirán con sus padres. Las escenas de acción de Diana son emocionantes precisamente porque están destinadas a detener la guerra, no a fomentarla; La idea de una semi-diosa usando el amor para luchar contra la guerra podría sonar inocente (una característica que hace más hermosa a Diana), pero Jenkins le imprime de suficiente carácter al concepto para que resulte sustancioso. Cuando Diana atraviesa la “tierra de nadie” para atacar una trinchera alemana, la icónica serie de televisión del 77 palidece en comparación, y sin embargo la diversión nunca socava el heroísmo, por el contrario lo exacerba de manera genuina, como lo hace el mejor entretenimiento. La Mujer Maravilla como idea es más grande que la suma de sus poderes. “Pelear no te hace un héroe” dice el guión, lo que decides hacer con el poder que posees es lo que te define. La película trata a un personaje clásico e inspirador para niñas, adolescentes y mujeres con la dignidad que merecía, por fin.
La primera heroína comiquera se ganó su película en solitario y deja mal parados a sus compañeros con tanta aventura y encanto. Vivimos tiempos complicados y turbulentos, ¿será por eso que el cine nos devuelve superhéroes demasiado conflictivos? Desde hace un tiempo los vemos peleándose entre sí, con sus propios fantasmas o contra el sistema, olvidando un poquito su propósito de “justicieros”. Los superhéroes de hoy en día, reflejos modernos del héroe mitológico lleno de virtudes, perdieron un tanto su esencia, reemplazada por un poco (bastante) de cinismo. Ojo, no nos estamos quejando, pero Patty Jenkins decidió ir por otro camino y exaltar la figura de su heroína, que si bien no carece de conflictos, sabe como abrazarlos y volvernos a recordar –a pesar de que su visión pueda parecer un tanto ingenua para el siglo XXI- que hay futuro para una humanidad que se empecina constantemente en destruirse a sí misma, pero todavía vale la pena salvar. “Mujer Maravilla” (Wonder Woman, 2017) hace bastante hincapié en estos temas, aunque no como moralina impuesta, sino como desprendimiento de los valores (y postura) de sus protagonistas. La violencia en el mundo le queda demasiado actual, más allá de tomar a la Primera Guerra Mundial como escenario principal; y entre chistes y aventura nos invita también a reflexionar en nuestras propias capacidades como raza para destruir y crear con la misma intensidad. Todo esto puede sonar un tanto naive, pero tal vez necesitamos un poco de esta esperanza que enarbola Diana (Gal Gadot), una princesa amazona, cuya tarea autoimpuesta es despojar a la humanidad del yugo de la violencia, sin entender que no toda la culpa es de un villano que se encuentra por encima de todas las cosas, sino del libre albedrío del que gozamos los seres humanos. Al personaje de William Marston le costó más de 75 años llegar a la pantalla grande y no podría haberlo hecho en el mejor de los momentos. Para muchos, el género superheroico está cayendo en la fatiga, y lo bueno de “Mujer Maravilla” es que viene a sacudir un poco las cosas, tal vez no desde su temática, su estética o sus personajes per se (aunque nunca vimos algo así en pantalla), sino desde su conjunto: una aventura hecha y derecha, con tintes de film bélico y un sentido del humor casi perfecto, que se desprende del constante choque cultural entre Diana y el resto del mundo. El equilibrio que logra la directora y los guionistas entre estos momentos cómicos (algunos MUY cómicos) y los más emotivos, terminan dándole forma a los protagonistas y a una historia que, tal vez en otras manos, no funcionaría. “Mujer Maravilla” es una historia de origen, por eso arranca en Temiscira, una isla paradisíaca escondida del mundo y plagada de amazonas que, si bien viven tiempos de paz, siempre entrenan y se preparan para la lucha. La pequeña Diana sueña con ser una de ellas, pero mamá Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), la reina, es demasiado sobreprotectora de su retoño. No así, su tía la general Antiope (Robin Wright), quien entiende que la paz no es para siempre, y hay que estar bien preparados. Entre estas dos mujeres poderosas, y otras tantas, la princesa crece para convertirse en una guerrera sobresaliente, sabiendo que Ares (dios de la guerra) fue derrotado hace muchísimo tiempo, pero su regreso sólo puede provocar un caos y destrucción inimaginable. El mundo de Diana se sacude para siempre con la llegada de un visitante inesperado. Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) se estrella en la isla y trae consigo un poco de la guerra que se está llevando a cabo en Europa y más allá. Tras salvarle la vida, y repeler a los invasores, la amazona entiende su verdadero propósito en el mundo y, suponiendo que Ares está detrás de todo esto, decide acompañar al soldado de regreso al frente de batalla para ponerle fin a la contienda. Sí, esto puede sonar bastante extraño e inverosímil, pero es el punto de vista de Diana, una guerrera idealista que todavía no entiende el verdadero alcance de los horrores de la guerra y el sufrimiento de la humanidad. En algún punto se va a dar de lleno contra la pared y todos sus esfuerzos, tal vez, ya no valgan la pena. “Mujer Maravilla” se mueve entre cierto realismo histórico –estamos en 1918, a finales de la guerra, donde Inglaterra y Alemania buscan firmar un armisticio para ponerle fin a la contienda-, y mucha fantasía, o sea, tenemos una amazona paseándose por Londres con escudo y espada en mano, mientras el general Erich Ludendorff (Danny Huston) no ve con buenos ojos el fin del conflicto y tiene su propia agenda con la colaboración de la doctora Maru (Elena Anaya), quien está desarrollando un arma bastante mortífera. Es la misión de Steve, y por ende la de Diana, infiltrarse en las líneas enemigas y destruir los planes de este dúo maquiavélico. El espíritu aventurero de “Mujer Maravilla” enseguida remite un poco al mejor Indiana Jones. Acá no hay secreto, sino mucho homenaje, ya que Jenkins se inspiró en el arqueólogo, y en el Superman (1978) de Richard Donner, para crear su propia historia superheroica muy a tono con los tiempos que corren. La relación Diana/Steve, así como la química entre Gadot y Pine, es el alma de este relato. Una “pareja” que se complementa a la perfección y puede entregarnos momentos hilarantes como emotivos, con absoluta naturalidad sin forzar la narración o necesidad de golpes bajos. Jenkins le apuesta todo a su protagonista femenina y todos salimos ganando con Gal, un personaje que mezcla ingenuidad (incauta sí, boluda no), carisma y heroína de acción patea traseros, un modelo que cada vez inunda más las pantallas y pone nerviosos (e indigna) a los “machos” defensores de la testosterona (pueden chequear las reacciones de “Mad Max: Furia en el Camino”, “Ghostbusters” o las funciones “para mujeres” del Alamo Drafthouse, para tener un mejor contexto). ¿Qué tan “feminista” es esta versión de Wonder Woman? En realidad, son sólo puntos de vista. La Diana de Gadot no distingue entre géneros, ni entiende de roles “asignados por la sociedad” a mujeres y hombres cien años atrás. Jenkins no responde a ninguna agenda política del momento, sino que trata a su protagonista de la misma manera que lo haría con cualquier superhéroe, con la única salvedad de que estamos ante una superheroína sin pudores, miedos o limitaciones por su condición femenina. Sí, hay varios chistes al respecto, pero también hay muchas verdades entre líneas. La Londres de 1918 le resulta tan extraña como fascinante, muy diferente a su lugar natal poblado de mujeres poderosas que no le rinden cuentas a nadie. Temiscira es un festín para los ojos del espectador, un paraíso sobre la Tierra, inspiradísimo por la mitología griega, que contrasta desde todos sus aspectos con la ciudad británica y alrededores. La directora prefiere los escenarios naturales, pero no puede evitar la pantalla verde y el CGI, al fin y al cabo, estamos ante una película superheroica, donde sus protagonistas deben realizar proezas que, muchas veces, sólo pueden ser posibles en las páginas del cómic. Así y todo, Jenkins –con su nula experiencia en este tipo de producciones millonarias- se las ingenia para brindarnos unas geniales secuencias de súper acción (posta que dan ganas de pelar espada y escudo, y salir a la calle a pelearse con alguien). Tal vez abuse un poquito de ciertos recursos visuales, pero este es el estilo que decidió implementar y hay que respetarlo. La realizadora sabe como llevar el ritmo por más de dos horas de película sin decaer, mechar con humor, un poquito de romance que no molesta para nada y mucho, pero mucho sentimiento y carisma, cortesía de su protagonista. Las cosas se salen un poquito de control en el final, pero logra encausar cierta desprolijidad narrativa que, ante ojos menos analíticos, pasa tranquilamente desapercibida. Es más, olviden este detalle que, al igual que algunos efectos especiales, deslucen una historia casi perfecta; pero tengamos en cuenta que a pesar de la libertad creativa, Patty no contó con el mismo presupuesto astronómico que algunos de sus compañeros masculinos. Pequeños detalles que no arruinan una gran experiencia cinematográfica con una genial puesta en escena, mucha diversidad bien entendida, personajes muy bien delineados (divina la Etta Candy de Lucy Davis, mucho más que una secretaria), villanos de temer y una historia aventurera llena de alma y corazón (aunque suene un tanto cursi), cortesía de una dupla (Gadot y Pine) hecha a la medida. “Mujer Maravilla” cumple con todas las expectativas y muchísimo más. Llega cuando la industria más la necesita (y un público que quiere verse reflejado en cada uno de los géneros), demostrando que podemos disfrutar de héroes sin conflictos que le hacen honor a su esencia, y que no hay ningún inconveniente en que estos héroes anden por ahí en pollerita. La acción no es exclusiva de los hombres y Diana termina derribando esta barrera a puro puño, pero también con un mensaje (tal vez) un tanto ingenuo para los tiempos que corren, pero uno que necesitamos recordar cada vez que pensamos que la humanidad se está yendo al cuerno. Ojalá vengan muchas más.
Modo Amazona: ¡Por el fin el cine nos trae a una heroína criada en el seno de una sociedad matriarcal! Mientras una voz en off ronca y firme nos sitúa en la actualidad, una toma área hace un recorrido desde los confines de la galaxia hasta hacer foco en la pirámide del mismísimo Louvre. Diana (Gal Gadot), la bella portadora de unas piernas largas y elegantes, entra a su oficina en el museo francés. De pronto llega una entrega, un paquete que contiene una vieja fotografía que data de la primera guerra mundial, en el que un grupo de hombres rodea a nuestra amazona guerrera. Esta imagen dará paso a un gran flashback, para narrar el origen de LA heroína del universo de DC. En una era mitológica donde los dioses son protagonistas, surge un lugar paradisíaco, suspendido en el tiempo y el espacio, gobernado por amazonas de armas tomar, quienes se entrenan con el fin resguardar su tribu y mantener la paz, y para protegerse de la inminente llegada de Ares, el dios de la guerra. La pequeña Diana se criará en este entorno y con estos valores e ideales hasta hacerse mujer. Pero un día, un avión proveniente de la primera guerra mundial traspasará las barreras de la utópica ciudad de Tesmicira y caerá en el mar de la isla. Diana salvará al piloto (Chris Pine) y así descubrirá el horror que sucede en el mundo. Convencida que el dios Ares es el responsable, abandonará su lugar con el fin de acabar con este mal, sin tener consciencia de que posee poderes sorprendentes. Recurriendo a la estética más clásica de la historieta, fusionada con momentos animación y efectos especiales que responden a las necesidades de la narración, La Mujer Maravilla, también conceptualmente, descubre un registro novedoso en el universo DC. Un mundo donde las mujeres poseen el poder sin recurrir al abuso y donde reina lo justo. Donde habita una heroína con una mirada inocente, sin oscuridad, sin angustia ni cinismo, todo lo contrario a los motivos que vienen predominando en el universo de superhéroes. Gal Gadot está magnética, el sayo de Mujer Maravilla le queda impecable, actoral y estéticamente. Es cierto que en la cinta viste tremendo y nunca se ensucia a pesar de estar rodeada de tiros y nubes de tierra, pero no nos olvidemos que proviene de una estirpe mitológica. El imaginario del film es muy atractivo, desde situarlo en el contexto de la primera guerra mundial, la química que se genera entre Gadot y Chris Pine, hasta el grupo que va al frente conformado por outsiders. Lo único que parece desencajar, desde el aspecto del fisic du rol, es el actor que encarna al dios Ares. Por lo demás cumple con todos los requisitos: hay aventura, algo de romance, momentos de humor, luchas extraordinarias, pero sobre todo una mujer que se las trae, una Power Woman, sensible, íntegra y estoica.
75 años de historia en las viñetas, 75 años de popularidad, 75 años de espera para que al fin Wonder Woman tenga el gran salto a la pantalla grande, una película que venía generando muchísimas expectativas desde su anuncio y ahora llego el momento de verla en todo su esplendor, una película que llega para diferenciarse del resto, ya que estamos ante la primera en ser protagonizada por una mujer, eso no es todo, también con una mujer atrás de cámara dirigiendo todo el material, Wonder Woman llego en su mejor momento, una película que llego para cambiar la historia dentro de su genero. La película comienza en la época actual, en donde Diana convive con normalidad junto al resto de los mortales, es ahí en donde ella recibe un paquete con una fotografía, una fotografía en donde ella rememora su primer encuentro con la civilización, pero no es ahí donde comienza su historia, sino muchísimo tiempo antes en la isla de Temiscira, una isla habitada por mujeres amazonas entrenadas para el combate, vemos a Diana como una niña bastante rebelde, pero con las ganas de convertirse en una guerrera al igual que las demás, su entrenamiento es duro y conlleva un gran esfuerzo que con el pasar de los años logra dominar a la perfección. Ella en un momento ve como un piloto aterriza de manera accidentada sobre el mar cerca de la isla, acude en su ayuda y descubre que es un hombre llamado Steve Trevor, este le advierte a todas las amazonas que hay una gran guerra en donde muere mucha gente inocente, Diana al oír esto decide dejar atrás su hogar y emprende un viaje junto a Steve para buscar la manera de frenar una guerra que parece no tener fin. El DCEU (DC Extended Universe) presenta su cuarta película y hasta el momento es la mejor de todas, tenía que llegar Wonder Woman para que los ejecutivos de DC como los de Warner sepan hacer bien las cosas sin defraudar a nadie y aquí el resultado es mas que satisfactorio. Si te agrado su breve paso por "Batman Vs Superman: El Origen de la Justicia", es en esta película en donde el espectador terminara enamorándose completamente del personaje, Gal Gadot demuestra que nació para interpretar a Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, ella tiene carisma, su actuación es muy creíble, tiene las agallas para enfrentarse a los problemas con los que se cruza, ella es Wonder Woman, Chris Pine acompaña bien en el rol protagonico masculino, hay buena quimica junto a Gal Gadot. Patty Jenkins es conocida por dirigir la película "Monster" y algunos episodios en series como "Entourage" o " Arrested Development", así que Wonder Woman es su primer film de gran presupuesto, anteriormente fue elegida por MARVEL para ponerse a cargo de "Thor: Un Mundo Oscuro", pero termino dando un paso al costado por diferencias creativas. En Wonder Woman se nota su excelente labor como directora y espero poder seguir viéndola como directora en futuros proyectos. La película transcurre durante la Primera Guerra Mundial (1914-1918), por ende, la ambientación y la vestimenta tienen que estar acorde a época, cosa que en el film es un detalle que está muy bien preservado. Por parte de la fotografía es otro acierto, quede encantado con las localizaciones en donde se filmaron las escenas de Temiscira, la musica acompaña de buena manera en todo momento. Wonder Woman de la mano de Gal Gadot demuestra que llego para quedarse, ella es la heroína por excelencia, la heroína que tanto nos hacia falta, debuta en la pantalla grande con una película acorde a su historia.
Maravilla de las maravillas Luego de más de 20 años de ires y venires en una de las producciones cinematográficas más obstaculizadas de los tiempos modernos, el hecho de que se estrene Mujer maravilla (Wonder Woman, 2017) es un logro de por sí solo. He aquí la primera película de la superheroína más icónica de los cómics y la televisión hecha por Patty Jenkins, la primera mujer en dirigir una película de superhéroes. Lo que debería ser un suceso histórico es más bien un engranaje en la maquinaria del “universo expandido” de DC: la película posee suficiente frescura, reveses y elementos exóticos como para destacarse dentro de lo que es el gran “más de lo mismo” del cine de superhéroes, pero parece una oportunidad desperdiciada el hecho de que la trama de Mujer maravilla apenas roce la temática de feminismo con la que se asocia al personaje (en parte porque su heroína apenas es expuesta a él). La premisa es la siguiente: un reino de guerreras amazonas sobrevive escondido del resto de la humanidad desde tiempos inmemoriales en una isla mágica hasta que, de casualidad, el soldado Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) naufraga en sus orillas, conmueve a la Princesa Diana (Gal Gadot) con historias de guerra y ambos regresan al mundo real para continuar peleando. La guerra es la Gran Guerra, posteriormente la Primera Guerra Mundial, la cual suele ser ignorada por el cine porque es más difícil distinguir entre buenos y malos que en la Segunda, aunque en esta película no es problema (“Yo soy el bueno, ellos son los malos,” dice el yanqui Trevor señalando el ejército alemán que lo persigue). Irónicamente la ambigüedad del bien y el mal termina siendo el tema central de la historia. Son los últimos días de la guerra y se está por firmar el armisticio, pero el maníaco General Ludendorff (Danny Huston) planea decimar las fuerzas aliadas con un gas mortífero desarrollado por la Dra. Maru (Elena Anaya). Lo interesante de la película es que Diana (jamás es referida como ‘Mujer Maravilla’) ha tomado las historias de su madre Hipólita (Connie Nielsen) y tía Antíope (Robin Wright) a pie de la letra y ha entrenado toda su vida anticipando el retorno de Ares, el mítico dios de la guerra. Cuando el extranjero Trevor le describe los horrores de la Gran Guerra, Diana queda convencida de que su misión es encontrar y derrotar a Ares en persona, como si el mal pudiera ser adjudicado a una única entidad y arrancado de raíz definitivamente. La trama pues está dispuesta para que el mundo que Diana descubre choque con el mundo en el que Diana cree, y que en el clímax de la historia enfrente la decepción. Es una estructura inusual para una película de superhéroes, en las que el alter ego heroico suele ser una reacción a un trauma que pone en juego sus valores y motiva la defensa exagerada de valores opuestos. Aquí en cambio se invierte la fórmula: Diana ya es una superheroína cuando empieza la historia, y su aventura la llevará a cuestionar sus valores en vez de reafirmarlos. Gal Gadot puede o no ser la mejor elección para interpretar a la Mujer Maravilla. A veces parece más una modelo de pasarela (como cuando desfila por la infame Tierra de Nadie mientras llueven balas y misiles alrededor suyo, con lujo de cámara lenta y lo que debe ser un gigantesco ventilador de piso a un costado) que una auténtica guerrera como el resto de las amazonas que habitan Temiscira. Pero la actriz es creíblemente naif y su comportamiento es auténticamente alienígena entre el resto de los personajes, y su inevitable romance con el carismático Trevor es una parte intrínseca de su desarrollo como personaje en vez de ser un plus de sabor para el tráiler. La conclusión de la película requiere que Diana invoque el poder del amor a gritos y que su razonamiento maniqueo sobre la naturaleza del bien y el mal sea en parte validado. Mujer maravilla está repleta de oportunidades fallidas por el estilo, pero no deja de ser una película entretenida, balanceando correctamente el humor y la seriedad, y con una energía más sincera, sentida y simpática que sus pares - de lo mejor que DC ha creado en sus atolondrados intentos por imitar el modelo de Marvel.
Finalmente el Universo Cinematográfico de DC Cómics ha logrado traer su primera gran película, hablando siempre en términos cualitativos, lo que es una noticia importante para los espectadores y fanáticos de la casa editorial. La otra novedad, quizás más importante, es que quien ha llegado a salvar el barco en pleno hundimiento es una mujer. Una que después de 75 años se gana merecidamente su adaptación para la pantalla grande. Wonder Woman demuestra que el cine de DC está vivo y que una mujer es capaz de hacer justicia sin responder ante nadie.
El equilibrio para empezar a creer En La mujer maravilla (2017), Diana (Gal Gadot) es la princesa guerrera de una isla paradisíaca lejana al mundo exterior. Cuando el piloto norteamericano Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) se estrella a orillas del mar, le advertirá de un peligro inminente que acecha al mundo exterior. Diana responderá al llamado de justicia para acompañar a Trevor y así terminar con la gran guerra, descubriendo su propio destino y conociendo quién es realmente. La mujer maravilla representa la primera adaptación al cine del personaje icónico de Dc Comics, creado en 1941. La directora Patty Jenkins (Five) nos da un vistazo del crecimiento y desarrollo de Diana desde que es pequeña en Themyscira, la isla en la cual sólo habitan mujeres. Paso a paso vemos como se forja la personalidad de una mujer especial que, conforme al paso del tiempo, entiende los conceptos más puros del bien, el mal, la venganza, la ética y la moral pero por encima de todos ellos, la justicia. Así, La mujer maravilla construye su relato sin titubear, tomándose el tiempo necesario para acentuar las bases ideológicas y de pensamiento de Diana frente al mundo que todavía le resulta desconocido. Cargada de acción, nostalgia y con buenos momentos de humor -gracias a Chris Pine– el argumento de La mujer maravilla nunca decae ni hace perder el foco e interés al espectador: Gal Gadot impone con su presencia, carácter, dulzura y también ingenuidad, ya que le resulta difícil de adaptarse a un mundo corrompido por la avaricia, la maldad, ira y maldad del hombre. Elegir a Geoff Johns, famoso e importante guionista de cómics de la empresa para que se encargue del guión de la película fue otro acierto de DC. Más allá de pequeñas licencias en cuanto a la adaptación al cine, la esencia del personaje creado por William M. Marston en 1941 se percibe en la gran pantalla y conmueve. La mitología que rodea a la Princesa Diana impulsa a la trama mientras que se relaciona de manera eficaz con el mundo moderno en guerra, sin perder nunca el balance de un lugar ni del otro -a pesar de tener errores de interpretación y de tiempos-. La fotografía como también la música de La mujer maravilla cierran a la perfección la identidad que Jenkins ideó para la película, manteniendo el matiz oscuro y sombrío, en gran parte como marca DC en el cine pero sin perder el tono noble que impone La mujer maravilla. Con tantas escenas impresionables de acción, lucha y conflicto; por momentos el uso de CGI no fue tan acertado en su realización, aunque en su composición final si genera un producto digno y aceptable. Pese a las dudas que se habían formado en el público cuando se anunció su participación; Gal Gadot es la punta del iceberg de la mejor película de DC en el cine hasta el momento. La esencia de La mujer maravilla brilla desde que conocemos a una joven Diana que sueña con convertirse en una princesa guerra. Gadot entendió el rol que debía ejercer y representó a la perfección un símbolo de mujer que trascendió generaciones y tendencias. Desde las escenas de acción hasta donde el drama, la impotencia y la desolación hacían sucumbir a Diana. Chris Pine es otro foco fuerte del film, siendo el eje entre el mundo casi ficticio de Diana y el otro donde la guerra estallaba por los distintos frentes de Europa. El espía norteamericano Steve trevor es quién aporta las dosis de humor, reflexión sobre el amor, las relaciones entre hombres y mujeres como también el sentido del honor y la justicia, tan importantes e inquebrantables para Diana. En un mundo con leyes y direcciones muy dispares a las suyas, Trevor es quien explica e ilumina un camino que, muchas veces, se torna más oscuro e indescifrable para la princesa guerrera. La simetría, química y simbiosis entre ambos los vuelve inseparables en todo el desarrollo del film. Robin Wright (House of Cards) es otro gran acierto en el cast como la General Antiope, quién entrena, forja el carácter de Diana y la expone a la primer gran pérdida de su vida. Connie Nielsen (The good wife) también aportó una gran perfomance como la Reina Hippolyta y su madre, quien tratará de proteger a su hija y reino por encima de todo, hasta de la verdad oculta que rodea el nacimiento de Diana. Tal vez uno de los errores del films fue la personificación de los demás actores masculinos en la película: ni David Thewlis (Fargo) ni Danny Huston (Frankenstein) fueron los exponentes más representativos con la historia a contar y su culminación, aunque posiblemente esa fuera la intención de Jenkis. Sin embargo, eso no significa que no hayan logrado lo que su papel les exigía, mostrando las distintas facetas del bien y el mal, aunque a veces no son tan distintas como parecen. Sin lugar a dudas, La mujer maravilla es la mejor película del Universo DC en el cine a base de una gran dirección, argumento y un elenco digno a la altura de la primera adaptación a la gran pantalla del personaje. La mujer maravilla cumple con lo que propone: entretener en base a la acción y el descubrimiento de un mundo nuevo en el que Diana debe adaptar sus estandartes de valor, justicia, el bien y el mal.

DC al fin da en el clavo con el tono exacto que el personaje se merece. Fuerza, idealismo, valentía, inocencia y fundamentalmente: esperanza. Una aventura divertida y emocionante que deleitará a fans de la heroína y espectadores casuales. Una verdadera maravilla. En los últimos tiempos se habló mucho de las producciones cinematográficas basadas en personajes del universo DC Comics. A pesar de que la mayoría de los fans se iban contentos de la sala, la crítica les daba la espalda y varias voces de especialistas se alzaron en contra de las decisiones de tono y estética con la que se manejaba a los personajes. Lejos de los símbolos de esperanza y salvación que supieron ser; en la pantalla grande vemos héroes dramáticos y cínicos, almas torturadas y oscuras que se preocupan más por sus conflictos internos y traumas personales antes que por ayudar a la humanidad. Después de las reacciones mixtas que cosechó Batman vs Superman: El Origen de la Justicia (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2016), del absoluto desastre que fue Escuadrón Suicida (Suicide Squad, 2016) y teniendo cerca el estreno del film que reunirá a la élite de los superhéroes de DC (Justice League, 2017); todos miraban con desconfianza la película de la heroína por excelencia: Mujer Maravilla (Wonder Woman, 2017). La amazona encarnada por Gal Gadot se ganó al público y la crítica, siendo por muchos reconocida como una de las mejores cosas que nos dejó BvS. Por otra parte, la película del símbolo feminista por antonomasia llega en tiempos en los que las protagonistas femeninas están en auge, cada vez se hacen más films apuntando a público femenino y cada vez más mujeres se movilizan en búsqueda de igualdad, respeto y reivindicación de derechos. El personaje creado hace más de 75 años por William Marston parecía el ideal para “salvar” al universo DC en el cine y para suavizar el tono oscuro y depresivo que vimos hasta el momento. Por suerte, el film de Patty Jenkins (Monster, 2003) es un primer paso en la dirección correcta. Diana es la princesa de las amazonas (una raza de guerreras pacificadoras que fueron creadas por Zeus) y vive junto a su madre Hipólita (Connie Nielsen) y su tía Antíope (Robin Wright) en la isla de Temiscira, un paraíso perdido que está oculto a los ojos de los hombres. Cuando el piloto y espía Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) se estrella en la isla y lleve consigo a los enemigos que lo persiguen, Diana descubrirá que más allá de Temiscira se está librando una guerra sin igual que sacude al mundo y podría aniquilar a todos los hombres. Diana supone que detrás de toda esa barbarie y destrucción está la mano de Ares, el dios de la guerra, y escapa de la isla junto a Steve y la espada Godkiller dispuesta a liberar a los hombres de su influencia destructiva. Nuestra luchadora se sumerge en la Primera Guerra Mundial, descubre la naturaleza del hombre y el verdadero alcance de su poder. Mujer Maravilla es un gran acierto para DC. Una película hecha con mucho amor y respeto por todo lo que representa el personaje. El trasfondo bélico contrasta muy bien con la naturaleza bondadosa de Diana y el film se permite muchos momentos de humor y risas que no se sienten para nada forzados. La pareja protagonista tiene mucha química y su relación fluye de una manera prolija y orgánica. La labor de Patty Jenkins es excelente, dejando el subtexto anti-bélico entre líneas y los mensajes feministas bien sutiles. Nada en el film se siente obvio o forzado. La acción es vibrante y muy bien lograda. Cada pelea se ve espectacular (aunque por momentos se siente que abusan demasiado del slow motion en el medio de las batallas) con una correcta edición. Hablando del apartado visual, tal vez estemos ante la película de DC más bella hasta el momento, nada de sombras ni colores desaturados. Hay brillo y matices de color hasta en las escenas más oscuras. En el costado interpretativo hay que comenzar destacando la brillante labor de Gal Gadot. Tan bella como carismática y fuerte como para calzarse el traje de heroína y no aflojar ni un segundo. Logra capturar a la perfección la valentía y la inocencia de Wonder Woman. Una guerrera pacificadora hecha de pura bondad (pero sin un pelo de tonta) que lucha en nombre de todo lo que es bueno y que a la perfección que cuando la oscuridad la rodea, ella debe hacer que su luz brille con más intensidad. Chris Pine funciona muy bien como el interés romántico de la protagonista, a lo largo del film cada uno aprende del otro y el contraste entre sus mundos da pie a divertidos intercambios de palabras. Otros personajes que brillan por momentos son la poderosa guerrera Antíope y Etta Davis. Los villanos cumplen con una participación correcta pero discreta (después de todo, la película se trata sobre la heroína), sin destacarse demasiado. El verdadero enemigo de Diana es la guerra, el mal que envenena el corazón de los hombres y los lleva a destruirse mutuamente. A lo largo de la película Diana se cuestionará si ese mal proviene de Ares o si es algo natural que vive dentro de los mortales. Mujer Maravilla tiene todo para ser un gigantesco éxito e inspirar a toda una generación de niñas que no pudieron ver la serie de los 70 protagonizada por Lynda Carter a convertirse en verdaderas heroínas. El film no es perfecto (la trama en su tercer acto tiene algunos agujeros, el clímax de la batalla final se extiende demasiado y algunos personajes muy secundarios se sienten poco desarrollados), pero sus pequeñas fallas quedan sepultadas debajo de todos sus aciertos.
Wonder Gadot. Si hay un traje que le calza a medida, es el de La Mujer Maravilla. No era fácil el reto: A pesar de un par de escasos cameos en “Batman v Superman”, acá tenía el peso que supone cargar con la mochila del protagonismo, y la de ser la primera superheroína en pisar la pantalla grande. Desde monstruos verdes enfurecidos y gruñones, pasando por millonarios excéntricos vestidos en trajes de lata o spandex negro, de dioses Nórdicos que escupen rayitos por un martillo, hasta alienígenas encapotados pasados de esteroides. El cine de superhéroes parecía pertenecer exclusivamente al mundo de los pectorales, y cuando una chica aparecía, o era la linda novia de alguno, o era una segundona que aportaba el viejo contraste entre puños y curvas. Hasta que llegó ella y dijo: “Holis, soy Gal Gadot, estuve en el ejército israelí y fui miss Universo y…ah…sé actuar…”. Un cóctel a priori bizarro, pero que funciona de “Maravilla”. Antes de ser Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) era Diana, princesa del Amazonas entrenada para ser una guerrera invencible. Diana ha sido criada en una isla paradisíaca protegida. Hasta que un día un piloto americano (Chris Pine), que tiene un accidente y acaba en sus costas, le habla de un gran conflicto existente en el mundo [Primera Guerra Mundial]. Diana decide salir de la isla convencida de que puede detener la terrible amenaza. Mientras lucha junto a los hombres en la guerra que acabará con todas las guerras, Diana descubre todos sus poderes, y de paso, su verdadero destino. Gadot ya venía pisando fuerte con su personaje de Gisele en “Fast & Furious” (varias de ellas) y en “Criminal” (2016) con Kevin Costner y Ryan Reynolds. Algunos haters de esos que andan sueltos por las redes se preguntaban en sus ratos de ocio si este papel, acaso, no le podía quedar un poquitín grande a la bella Gal, y es tremendamente reconfortante decirles lo equivocados que estaban. Su trabajo, además de ser una de las mujeres más bonitas de la tierra, (cosa que la directora, Patty Jenkins, se encarga en cada plano de hacerlo notar y por momentos es alevoso) es prolijo, certero, consciente y metódico. Le sobran espaldas para que en cada coreografía luzca como una verdadera guerrera amazona que te puede patear el trasero sin esfuerzo, y encima te ponga cara de “Soy una princesa, obvio que no me despeino y ni me ensucio”. Sería injusto olvidar al resto del reparto, que acompañan con gran dignidad la labor de la protagonista, particularmente el caso de Chris Pine (el capitán Kirk en “Star Trek”), que si bien siempre se lo vio sólido en sus actuaciones, acá forma parte esencial del engranaje encargado de sostener el co protagonismo (por momentos pisando fuerte los talones de la protagonista), llevando a cabo una tarea más que digna, dando cuenta de su madurez actoral, quizás debido a que ya no es un el chico fanfarrón de ojos azules que hace las cosas sin pensar, por el contrario, este personaje demanda seriedad, y está a la altura de los requerido. La aparición de la siempre interesante Robin Wright (“House of Cards”) es una frutilla riquísima, pero lamentablemente muy chiquita, ya que una pésima decisión del guión la hace desaparecer innecesariamente. El filme se siente redondo, la historia es orgánica y está excelentemente contada y, a pesar de sus baches, (mayormente atribuidos al género) es entretenida en sus casi 2 horas de duración, manteniendo siempre la cadencia justa para no aburrir ni decaer. Los baches mencionados dan la impresión de estar meticulosamente insertados, casi contrastando con el bruto de la película, quizás más pertenecientes a las garras de algún corporativo ensañado con sus estadísticas, que al guión en sí. Nunca dejan de molestar los carraspeos pomposos y sentimentaloides, algún dato no explicado o mencionado a medias, y algunos personajes desperdiciados, sin rumbo aparente o con motivaciones poco exploradas. Lo único malo es el tercer acto, que tiene todo lo que una película de cómics: un final lleno de efectos especiales sin sentido. “Wonder Woman” es una película de acción, una comedia romántica y una historia con un mensaje significativo y una película de guerra. Pero ante todo, es una película de iniciación, en la que el personaje atravesará un camino de aprendizaje, en el que se convertirá no solo en La Mujer Maravilla, sino que las adversidades del mundo la harán madurar a los golpes, y la fuerza, dejar de ser una chica inocente, ingenua y naif. Finalmente, un Blockbuster como la gente. Puntaje: 3,5/5
Mujer maravilla, de Patty Jenkins Por Paula Caffaro En la isla secreta de Temisqueira, Diana (Gal Gadot), la princesa de las amazonas descubre su potencial como guerrera a partir de la misteriosa caída de una avioneta. Entrenada desde muy pequeña y con ansias prematuras de dedicarse a la lucha, la jovencita ya se destacaba del resto de la comunidad debido a estas características. Sin embargo, su madre, la Reina de la Amazonas, oculta un secreto que aún no puede revelar pero que cambiará el destino de la pequeña niña. A partir de una fotografía en la que se ve a Diana junto a sus compañeros de aventura, el film está organizado como un gran flashback, y ese ese recurso el que dota a toda la película de un sentido conmemorativo especial, otorgándole nostalgia y sentimentalismo al proponer una mirada contemporánea de la heroína, pero sobre las bases estructurales de aquella que interpretara alguna vez Lynda Carter. La figura de la Mujer Maravilla ha sido versionada por diferentes directores y géneros a través de los años, pero a pesar de las diferencias (lógicas) en la representación, hay una serie de rasgos esenciales que prevalecen a pesar de los cambios de época, uno de ellos es, por ejemplo, la preponderancia del universo femenino y la tierna ingenuidad que ronda el rol de la protagonista. Nacida de un cuerpo modelado por arcilla y traída a la vida por el soplo divino de un Dios, Diana, forja su personalidad inocente en consonancia con la misión de la comunidad de amazonas en la que se educó: salvar al mundo de las manos de Ares y, con su muerte poner fin a todas las guerras. ¿Empresa idealista, si las hay, no? Desde la perspectiva de Diana y con el accidente aéreo del joven espía, la misión de las amazonas ahora tiene una representante que se aventurará a salir de Temisqueira para hacer real el objetivo de la comunidad de las mujeres guerreras. Pero la ingenuidad que la acompaña será el obstáculo más difícil de sortear. La maldad del hombre junto con la muerte de niños y mujeres inocentes hacen que Diana descubra la realidad de un mundo lleno de horrores y malicia. Es así como teniendo que enfrentar el verdadero estado bélico del mundo, la misión idealista amazónica se ve transformada en el aprendizaje de un nuevo saber: Diana ahora no sólo sabe que no podrá poner fin definitivo a la guerra, sino que, a pesar de su buena voluntad de acción nada se podrá hacer salvo acompañar la lucha desde la fuerza que le dieron sus ancestros, enfrentando el mal del mundo con amor. Entretenida y con un ritmo atractivo a la hora de narrar, La Mujer Maravilla, se presenta como una de aquellas remakes, que a pesar de no hacer mucho escándalo mediático, permanecerá varias semanas en cartelera dándole batalla a otros tanques de los que es mejor ni hablar. Con la acertada elección de Gal Gadot como esta nueva mujer maravilla, y la dirección de Patty Jenkins esta película tiene la ingenuidad, el toque naif de los viejos comics donde el personaje principal esta determinado, sin dudas ni angustias, a hacer el bien. Y esas elecciones son el mayor acierto. Además esta mujer es de armas tomar, no pide permiso, lleva la iniciativa y no le importa que le crean. Ella, criada como única hija en una isla fuera del tiempo y del espacio, la tierra de las amazonas, solo tienen un destino, favorecidas por Zeus deben combatir y destruir a Ares, su hijo y dios de la guerra. Y cuando la primera guerra mundial irrumpe en ese mundo ideal, esta wonder woman no duda, Ares ha vuelto y solo se trata de matarlo para que los hombres se amen unos a otros. Llevada por el piloto que rescató del ataque alemán, un norteamericano espía de los británicos ella será Diana Prince, igual de bonita con ropa humana, tratando de comprender el mundo machista, engañoso, lleno de reglas que no entiende. Pero cuando comprende que la guerra tiene daños colaterales que “los buenos” no pueden remediar, entra en acción como una vanguardia que la transforma en guerrera ante los ojos de todos. Y aunque el guión se extiende mas de la cuenta y el horror esta de parte de los alemanes y las armas químicas, Ares esta personificado en un político ingles… Entretenida, con una buena actualización del uso del lazo dorado, buen diseño del traje de la heroína, con romance triste, efectos especiales justos, su único “pecado” son las casi dos horas y media de duración. Entretiene y ya vendrán las secuelas.
Mujer Maravilla es una película que no sólo le hace justicia a la más importante heroína de la historieta, sino que además resucita de las cenizas a la compañía DC y le da esperanza a un universo de ficción que tiene un potencial enorme. Un gigante dormido que fue anestesiado por directores y guionistas incompetentes que nunca entendieron a estos íconos populares. La directora del drama Monster (Charlize Theron), Patty Jenkins, en este caso desarrolló una producción que representa la antítesis de lo que fueron Batman vs. Superman y Escuadrón suicida. Filmes decepcionantes que distorsionaron a los personajes originales con enfoques absurdos que nunca terminaron de convencer. En este punto hay que valorar la obra de Jenkins y sus colaboradores, quienes expresan en cada aspecto de esta obra un enorme cariño y pasión por Mujer Maravilla. En esta película nos encontramos finalmente con el buen cine de DC que vuelve como el hijo pródigo a sus fuentes, representado en el arte de Richard Donner. No es un disparate establecer una relación entre esta versión de Mujer Maravilla y los primeros filmes de Superman de los años ´70, que poseían el equilibrio perfecto entre la fantasía y el drama. La directora Jenkins inclusive brinda algunos guiños divertidos que remiten al Superman de Christopher Reeve, pero su trabajo va más allá del recuerdo nostálgico y plantea una conexión espiritual con la obra de Donner. Por consiguiente, nos encontramos con un film entretenido que logra engancharte con la simpatía que tiene la protagonista y las tribulaciones que enfrenta. Tiene humor pero no llega al nivel de estupidez de Marvel, hay momentos dramáticos pero le escapa al melodrama depresivo y los planteos filosóficos ridículos. Mujer Maravilla es una película equilibrada para disfrutar a lo grande una propuesta de cómics en el cine. Gal Gadot ofrece una muy buena interpretación que te compra con la humanidad que le dio a la heroína, si bien estuvo apoyada por una directora y un guionista que siempre entendieron por donde pasaba el personaje. En lo personal no tengo dudas que Gadot en manos de Snyder hubiera sido una historia muy distinta, que es el problema que tiene Henry Cavill con Superman. El actor es perfecto para el rol pero el enfoque que le dieron al personaje resulta tedioso y decepcionante. Gadot estuvo rodeada de un equipo diferente y nos tapó la boca a quienes no confiábamos en ella para este papel. La verdad es que su labor es impecable y transmite muy bien los valores tradicionales de la heroína. Los fans del personaje se van a encontrar con una adaptación muy fiel del personaje que toma distintas etapas del cómic, muy especialmente las encarnaciones recientes de la heroína y la versión clásica de los años ´40. La película de Jenkins está plagada de numerosos detalles que conectan esta producción con la obra original como no lo hicieron las últimas producciones de Warner Bros. Probablemente desde Batman vuelve. Esto por supuesto no desmerece los experimentos interesantes que Christopher Nolan con Batman, pero en lo personal no creo que esa sea la representación más comiquera del anti héroe de Gotham. En Mujer Maravilla en cambió esta relación entre historieta y cine se puede apreciar con mayor intensidad y es una propuesta más cercana a su fuente original. Cabe destacar dentro del reparto la labor de Chris Pine, quien redime a uno de los personajes más odiados del universo DC como Steve Trevor, el soldado que toma contacto con la isla de las amazonas. Pine compone un héroe carismático y realista que logra estar a la altura de la princesa amazona y le brinda dignidad a un rol que siempre resultó tedioso en los cómics. La química entre el actor y Gal Gadot es excelente y el vínculo que se gesta entre ellos dos representa otro de los grandes atractivos de la trama. Una historia que se centra en el proceso de madurez que atraviesa Diana a raíz de su contacto con el resto de la humanidad, durante la Primera Guerra Mundial. Dentro de ese contexto, Ares, el villano principal, no tiene demasiado espacio para destacarse pero logra ser funcional a la historia y contribuye al crecimiento de la heroína. Aunque la película es brillante como adaptación del cómic, la labor de Patty Jenkins tiene algunas debilidades que podría corregir en entregas futuras y no afectan el balance general de su obra. La cineasta por momentos se excede con el uso de la cámara lenta en las escenas de acción que se vuelven redundantes y algunos efectos especiales no quedaron bien terminados. Pequeñas debilidades que no afectan en absoluto lo que es una de las mejores adaptaciones de cómics en el cine que vi en la última década. Se agradece también que la realizadora y el guionista Allan Heinberg le escaparan al panfleto feminista hueco, que vimos en la remake de los Cazafantasmas, y podría haber distorsionado la esencia pura del personaje. La Mujer Maravilla nunca necesitó denostar al sexo opuesto para desempeñarse con independencia y una fuerte personalidad, algo que los realizadores supieron entender. Pasaron más de 70 años para que los estudios de cine se dignaran a darle vida a la princesa amazona, quien fue injustamente rechazada en el género, por no enumerar todas las películas fallidas que se hicieron con heroínas del cómic. La espera valió la pena y dio como fruto una excelente película que le rinde honores a la gran creación de William y Elizabeth Marston. A disfrutarla.
“La película de DC que estábamos esperando”, “La mejor película del DCEU”, y millones de elogios más se pueden leer en la web acerca de Wonder Woman. ¿Son ciertos? Primero pongo en aviso al lector que no me conoce sobre que soy fan incondicional de DC Comics y abanderado de Zack Snyder y el universo que creó en base a estos personajes. Aclarado esto, afirmo con vehemencia que Mujer Maravilla es un film espectacular que logra con una fórmula muy clásica y sin sorpresas contentar a todos. Sin duda alguna su mayor fuerte es el terrible carisma, presencia y belleza de Gal Gadot. Un rol de los llamados “born to play” (nacida para ese papel) en Hollywood, del que tan solo habíamos tenido una pizquita en Batman vs Superman pero que había bastado para generar millones de amores, pesé a haber contado con un rechazo casi rotundo cuando el casting fue anunciado en 2014. Otro gran acierto de Zack Snyder, quien también es productor y uno de los guionistas de este gran estreno. Wonder Woman es uno de los personajes de la cultura pop más conocidos del mundo entero y tardó 76 años en tener su propia película. Salvo por la famosa serie de los setentas protagonizada por Lynda Carter y algunas incursiones animadas, el personaje fue siempre relegado a un segundo plano. También es verdad que las películas de superheroínas no han tenido suerte en el pasado, tal como sucedió con Supergirl (1984), Catwoman (2004) y Elektra (2005), pero también es verdad que estos films no fueron buenos. Mujer Maravilla es la primera producción superheróica, cuyo personaje principal es femenino, concebida con los estándares de estos tiempos en donde -afortunadamente- el rol de la mujer es puesto en el lugar que se merece. Un claro ejemplo reciente es Rey de Star Wars: El Despertar de la Fuerza. Hago hincapié en todo esto porque no es un dato menor dado los tiempos que corren y la gran manifestación social en todos los ámbitos y donde Hollywood no puede escapar. En cuanto a la película en sí, cuenta el origen de Diana amalgamando el arco argumental de George Pérez de 1987 y algunos elementos presentados en The New 52 en 2011. Datos comiqueros pero ciertos. Es una película hecha para que la disfruten todos y no tiene parte alguna que te deja afuera si no sos fan tal como sucedió en Batman vs Superman. Y tiene un corte muy clásico en el sentido de que apuesta a lo seguro y no se la juega. Algo que en lo personal no prefiero pero que es más que entendible dado a como venían las críticas de todas las películas del DCEU. Aquí los tres actos están muy bien delineados al igual que sus personajes. No hay matices contradictorios, y en este caso eso es algo bueno. Otra vez elogios para Gal Gadot, por su frescura, cuota de humor, firmeza y gran habilidad para las escenas de acción. Su co-protagonista Chris Pine está muy bien y tiene gran química con ella. Las escenas de Diana y Steve son todas muy buenas. Y particularmente me gustó mucho como los realizadores manejaron la sexualidad entre ellos, tanto en referencias como en diálogo. Por su parte, sorprende Robin Wright, a quien estamos acostumbrados a verla en la serie House of Cards de manera muy diferente y aquí impresiona en sus escenas de acción a sus 51 años. Lo mismo con todas las actrices que interpretan a las amazonas, y en principal a Connie Nielsen (Reina Hippolyta). No voy a hablar de los villanos porque cualquier data puede ser considerada spoiler. El “comic relief” de Etta Candy (interpretada por Lucy Davis) afortunadamente da los toques justos de humor. Misma fórmula que se repite en toda la película y gran diferencia con el estilo de Marvel que es meter un chiste obligatorio cada cinco minutos. Aquí hay drama, hay amor, hay acción y también hay humor. Pero todo bien dosificado. La directora Patty Jenkins hizo un laburo excelente en los manejos de tiempos y ritmo. Y si bien es verdad que hay una clara influencia de Snyder en algunas secuencias de cámara lenta, no es algo que vaya en detrimento sino todo lo contrario. Incluso le rinde homenaje a Superman: The Movie (1978) de Richard Donner de forma no disimulada. Esta película puso a Jenkins en el mapa de directores y va a haber que prestarle mucha atención porque ya había demostrado grandes dotes en Monster (2003) y aquí gana un nuevo calibre. Wonder Woman es una película tan necesaria como magnífica. Se disfruta a pleno y genera algo que hace muchos años que no veía: sonrisas en los más chicos (muchas nenas) ante la imagen de este gran personaje. Un gran acontecimiento cinematográfico que viene a reivindicar a DC Comics y que pasará a la historia.
Mujer Maravilla (Wonder Woman, 2017) viene a marcar un antes y un después en la historia del cine moderno, de las producciones comiqueras en particular y de la industria del entretenimiento en general. Este quiebre se da por el hecho de que es la superproducción basada en cómics más cara de la historia con una mujer como protagonista y otra mujer detrás de cámaras. Esta semana finalmente estrena en cines, después de mucha expectativa y una campaña publicitaria grande pero bastante medida, si tenemos en cuenta la movida marketinera excesiva de Escuadrón Suicida (Suicide Squad, 2016). Con apenas unos trailers y pósters mostrando el tono de la película, el diseño de producción y el traje, y a los principales protagonistas, pero sin revelar nunca los giros fundamentales de la trama, los villanos ni las motivaciones de Diana para convertirse en la heroína que todos conocemos, la promoción del film estuvo a la altura de las circunstancias. Y podemos afirmar, con una mezcla de alivio y orgullo, que la película también. Con los antecedentes de El Hombre de Acero (Man of Steel, 2013) y Batman v Superman: El Origen de la Justicia (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2016), ambas a cargo de Zack Snyder, como fracasos entre la crítica y gran parte de la audiencia (no así en las taquillas), la redención del universo DC en la pantalla grande dependía casi completamente del desempeño de WW. Mientras que el Universo Cinematográfico de Marvel sigue avanzando a paso firme, su gran debilidad radica en la falta de protagonistas femeninas, y este es un punto al que DC supo sacarle provecho con uno de sus personajes más icónicos. A esta altura, el UCM tuvo quince oportunidades para poner a una mujer a la cabeza, y todavía faltan cinco más para que lo hagan. Aunque DC rebooteó una y otra vez a sus protagonistas masculinos, Diana tuvo recién su primera aparición en cines el año pasado. Con un papel clave en la película Batman v Superman, que sirvió a su vez de introducción para el personaje dentro de este mundo creado por DC Comics y Warner para la pantalla grande, marcó el inicio de lo que sería el camino hacia su propia película. La película de la Mujer Maravilla es lo mejor de DC en el cine hasta la fecha, por lejos. Un lujo como historia de origen, con excelente ritmo y sin baches argumentales. La directora Patty Jenkins decidió encarar la historia de la princesa amazona desde sus orígenes hasta su transformación en la heroína que todos conocemos, en lugar de explotar la faceta más madura que pudimos ver en su cameo anterior. El punto de partida elegido es la Isla de Themyscira, un paradisíaco lugar alejado de la humanidad, donde Diana convive solo con mujeres. Ellas son las amazonas que la entrenan y pelean a su lado: su madre, la reina Hypólita, y su tía, la general Antíope. Diana va evolucionando de una niña empecinada en pelear a una joven prometedora, hasta convertirse en una mujer fuerte y determinada, llena de compasión y sentido de la justicia. Gal Gadot es la Mujer Maravilla perfecta, dueña de una gracia y fuerza en la pantalla que se complementan de manera ideal. Esa mezcla de belleza y fiereza, ingenuidad y valor, pasión e inteligencia, es lo que define el tono de su historia, siempre entre lo divino y lo humano. El film encuentra el permanente equilibrio entre estas facetas del personaje, su origen mitológico y su misión autoimpuesta, y va tiñendo el recorrido con dosis de humor y acción en la justa medida. Jenkins y Gadot supieron encontrar el tono perfecto para narrar el nacimiento de la más icónica superheroína de todos los tiempos y, en honor a su espíritu, colaboraron mutuamente en el proceso creativo del film para brindarnos este producto final tan prolijo y épico. Es una película hecha con amor, y se nota. Y con la responsabilidad que implicaba llevar adelante este desafío. Todas características dignas de la Mujer Maravilla, que no podían lograr sino un resultado a la altura de las circunstancias. Se podría decir que sigue la fórmula clásica y no sería ningún pecado; en definitiva, estamos hablando de superhéroes así que no hay razón para alejarlos del típico camino del héroe. Una vez sentadas las bases de la historia y del personaje, tal vez se pueda experimentar un poco más. Pero ahora logra a la perfección su cometido de introducir a Diana Prince en un mundo ya existente. Matiene a su vez en cierta medida el tono creado hasta el momento por Zack Snyder para este universo, tanto estética como argumentalmente (sobre todo en sus escenas finales), con lo cual encaja perfecto en el universo DC, pero lo empuja un paso más adelante en calidad narrativa y consistencia. Ojalá veamos esto mismo en la Liga de la Justicia (Justice League, 2017). Los personajes secundarios también hacen un papel muy digno, desde las amazónicas Connie Nielsen (Hypólita) y Robin Wright (Antíope), hasta el interés amoroso y heroico Steve Trevor, interpretado por un correcto Chris Pine. Los villanos son algunos de los mejores que vimos hasta ahora en materia de cine de superhéroes, y el momento histórico elegido para narrar la historia (la Primera Guerra Mundial) no podría haber sido más indicado para justificar la acción de la película, por parte de nuestra heroína y de sus némesis. Es importante destacar que hasta hace poco parecía no haber lugar para la diversidad en el universo de las producciones comiqueras, pero esto de a poco está cambiando. La industria cultural pide a gritos más representación, todos quieren tener un superhéroe con el cual identificarse. Que la mitad del planeta tenga a su superheroína más representativa en pantalla grande, con una gran película y el prospecto de más directoras al frente de este tipo de producciones, sienta un precedente y habla de una evolución en la industria del entretenimiento.
Uno de los estrenos más esperados del universo DC es el de la Mujer Maravilla. Una súper heroína que se merecía su propia película y que promete secuelas y apariciones emocionantes como en la venidera “Liga de la Justicia”. Fui a ver la película con cero expectativa con respecto al film y a la actriz que interpreta a la chica súper poderosa. Por suerte, salí con una gran felicidad del cine. Gal Gadot es perfecta para el papel, su mirada y sonrisa atraviesan la pantalla, y sus dotes para las escenas de acción son increíbles. Logra ser una mujer con mucha fuerza pero también adorable. El público empatizará seguramente con ella y agradecerán un personaje así en un universo poblado de hombres con súper poderes a los que no les importa cuántos mueren en el camino. Diana Prince, el alter ego de “Wonder Woman”, sí se preocupa, tiene un gran corazón y esa humanidad nos acerca muchísimo al personaje. Mujer Maravilla, es una gran película de origen de personaje, pero también nos da mucho de acción con escenas brillantemente rodadas por la directora Patty Jenkins. Una gran manera de comenzar y conocer a fondo la historia de esta niña amazona que al convertirse en mujer y rescatar del agua a un piloto espía en la Primera Guerra Mundial, decide acompañarlo para “salvar al mundo”. La peli se compone de dos partes principales, la primera es la infancia y adolescencia, donde Diana crece con las amazonas; y su tía Antíope (Robin Wright) la entrena para la guerra contra Ares. La segunda, transcurre en la Primera Guerra Mundial. La ambientación, realismo y fotografía en estas escenas son contundentes y brillantes. Hay dos pilares mujeres en este film. Patty Jenkins, con una gran dirección: las escenas se detienen en los momentos que tenemos que prestar atención y el despliegue visual es placer para los ojos. Gal Gadot, nació para el papel. Tiene el porte de una mujer fuerte, pero también sensible, se lleva al mundo por delante pero también es sensual. Gran trabajo de la actriz israelí. Los demás, Chris Pine como Steve Trevor, Robin Wright (Antíope) y Connie Nielsen como Hipólita junto a los personajes secundarios también están muy bien en sus papeles. Mujer Maravilla no es una simple película de superhéroes con mucha acción, sino que también es una muestra de valor, pasión, amor, unidad y paz. Sin dudas, para verla en el cine y en mi caso, para volver a ver.
Al fin llegó el turno de la superheroína. Quizás el film sobre la princesa amazona consiga pelearle a Marvel, aunque funciona mejor en su primera parte que en el final. El gigante histórico de las historietas, la editorial DC Comics, llega muy tarde para sumarse a la moda de convertir a los superhéroes en estrellas de cine. Exactamente 17 años tarde. Es el tiempo que separa el estreno de Mujer Maravilla del episodio original de la saga X Men (2000), con que Bryan Singer colocó la piedra fundamental sobre la que Marvel, la competidora “joven” de DC, edificó el imperio que mueve la mayor cantidad de millones en la industria cinematográfica mundial. No es que otros personajes de DC no hayan tenido sus apariciones en todo ese lapso, porque Superman y Batman, los dos mascarones de proa de la escudería, han marcado presencia. Sobre todo el segundo, el superhéroe de éxito más longevo dentro del ámbito del cine. Pero mientras Marvel desplegaba su universo de forma tan efectiva como exponencial, superando el límite de su personaje más popular, el Hombre Araña, DC no conseguía ir más allá de Batman, sumando fracasos. Es por eso queMujer Maravilla puede convertirse en un hito que le sirva para reinsertarse en una competencia que hace rato pierde por goleada. No es que la película sobre Diana, la princesa de las amazonas que se vuelve una heroína del mundo moderno, sea una maravilla, para abusar del juego de palabras, porque se nota que le falta una pulida final. Sin embargo no se le puede negar efectividad a la hora de presentar al personaje y narrar el inicio de su historia. Algo que no consiguieron ninguno de los tres intentos realizados en el siglo XXI para revivir a Superman ni, mucho menos, la torpe presentación de Linterna Verde (2011). Si algo se les achacaba a todas ellas era tomarse demasiado en serio, de un modo casi existencial, la esencia del relato de superhéroes. Mujer Maravilla es la primera adaptación al cine de un personaje de DC que parece haber aprendido algo del éxito de Marvel: que ser un superhéroe puede ser un peso, sí, pero también es una diversión. Hay en Mujer Maravilla una voluntad lúdica por aligerar ese peso que los personajes inevitablemente sienten, porque se trata de individuos con un desarrollado sentido de la responsabilidad que les permite comprender que el poder es una carga. Y las herramientas elegidas para ellos son el humor y una estructura multigénero que le aporta al relato una renovación de aire constante. La película empieza como una épica de aventuras, narrando el origen del personaje en la Grecia antigua como princesa de las amazonas, míticas mujeres guerreras que han vivido en su isla hasta comienzos del siglo XX como si el imperio helénico todavía dominara Europa. De ahí pasa a la comedia cuando Diana conoce al mayor Steve Trevor, espía estadounidense que cae por accidente en la isla escapando del ejército alemán (los malos de siempre), en plena Primera Guerra Mundial. Juntos parten hacia Londres para tratar de poner fin a la guerra y ahí tiene lugar el clásico recurso del choque cultural de un personaje desenvolviéndose en territorio ajeno. Enseguida la película se irá travistiendo en relato bélico, romántico, fantástico y de acción. Si bien se agradece haber aceptado el desafío de contar la historia de la Mujer Maravilla sin necesidad de apurarse a saltar a la actualidad (donde comienza a montarse el universo de la Liga de la Justicia), también es cierto que el tercer acto no está para nada a la altura de lo que se construyó hasta ahí. Será por la suma de lugares comunes (otra vez el clímax basado en la omnipresente destrucción) o que el villano no termina de alcanzar la estatura de némesis de la heroína, pero lo cierto es que el desenlace defrauda. Aún así, las bases son siendo sólidas. A eso se le suma la acertada elección de Gal Gadot para encarnar a la protagonista. Y el hecho de que tras 17 años por fin llega el turno de una mujer fuerte para que las chicas y, por qué no, también los chicos, puedan relacionar lo heroico con algo más que la testosterona que desborda de esas mallitas que le aprietan los bultos a los supermachos.
Mujer maravilla: una mirada feminista en el mundo de los superhéroes Hay dos cosas positivas para decir sobre Mujer Maravilla. En principio, que es mejor que las anteriores películas del denominado Universo extendido de DC Comics (tampoco hacía falta demasiado tras las flojas El hombre de acero, Batman vs. Superman y Escuadrón suicida), y que tiene como directora y protagonista a sendas mujeres con una mirada feminista que le viene muy bien al testosterónico género de los superhéroes. La película de Patty Jenkins (Monster: Asesina en serie) con Gal Gadot propone un ambicioso viaje temporal y geográfico: arranca en el museo parisino del Louvre en la actualidad y de allí nos transportará al pasado a una isla de la Antigua Grecia donde reinan las amazonas, para luego saltar a la sangrienta Primera Guerra Mundial. La heroína en todos esos ámbitos y épocas será, por supuesto, Diana Prince, a quien primero veremos de niña, luego de preadolescente y finalmente ya de adulta en la piel de Gadot en esa isla habitada íntegramente por mujeres. Mientras su madre, la reina Hipólita (Connie Nielsen), trata de mantenerla lejos del entrenamiento militar, su tía Antiope (Robin Wright) la apoya para que se forme en el arte de la lucha con la idea de que en algún momento pueda enfrentar a Ares, hijo de Zeus, dios de la guerra y principal enemigo de la raza humana. La sorpresiva aparición en ese ámbito y en ese tiempo de un piloto y espía estadounidense interpretado por Chris Pine le permitirá a la joven Diana descubrir no solo que existen hombres en el mundo sino también otras historias y conflictos, por lo que pronto la veremos con su escudo, su lazo y su espada saltando entre las trincheras de la Primera Guerra Mundial. Si las vueltas de tuerca que propone el guionista lucen en principio entre absurdas y forzadas, Jenkins y Gadot logran contar la historia del personaje, exponer sus características psicológicas y sus habilidades físicas con oficio y convicción. Hay algunos planos en que Gadot se parece bastante a Lynda Carter, protagonista de la popular serie televisiva de la segunda mitad de la década de 1970, pero está claro que esta película no está dirigida a adultos nostálgicos sino a los adolescentes que hoy son el target preferido y la clave del éxito de cualquier película de superhéroes. Con menos guiños, menos cameos y menos preocupaciones por dejar abiertas cuestiones a desarrollar en futuras películas, Mujer Maravilla surge como una propuesta más clásica y fiel a su origen de cómic. Con eso, con su despliegue visual y buenas coreografías, alcanza para que DC levante la puntería y pueda ver el futuro de sus superhéroes con mayor optimismo.
Regreso con gusto a poco Con una Gal Gadot inexpresiva, la película de la superheroína más famosa es demasiado solemne. Tuvieron que pasar casi cuatro décadas para que volviéramos a tener una Mujer Maravilla de carne y hueso, desde que en 1979 terminó la serie protagonizada por ese fetiche del movimiento onanista mundial llamado Lynda Carter. Para sumar expectativa, esta película empezó a proyectarse hace más de veinte años, con infinidad de protagonistas y directores en danza. Tantos años de espera no podían traer más que decepción: más allá de cualquier añoranza setentista, este es un regreso con gusto a poco. Admitamos que las películas de superhéroes ya están alcanzando un punto de saturación: perdieron gran parte de la sorpresa y la gracia que supieron tener hace unos quince años, cuando empezó la avalancha superheroica. Dentro de este panorama, uno de los mejores recursos que quedan es apostar al delirio y a la autoparodia, caso Deadpool. Algo que la factoría Marvel maneja mucho mejor que su competencia, DC. La solemnidad es uno de los grandes pecados de esta Mujer Maravilla. Quizá sea un problema intrínseco del personaje: difícil juguetear con un ser de origen divino. Demasiado perfecta, a Diana Prince le faltan los defectos que hacen dramáticamente atractivos a los humanos. A esto contribuye la inexpresividad de Gadot, que no cuenta con el histrionismo entre sus numerosos atributos. Físicamente tiene todo para el papel; le falta el espíritu. No vamos a compararla con Lynda Carter: es imposible competir contra un ícono de la infancia. Y, además, ¿quién podría decir que Lynda era una buena actriz? Igual que la israelí, venía del modelaje y los concursos de belleza. Pero tenía carisma. La elección de los villanos tampoco es feliz: no asustan, y por momentos rozan el ridículo. Los pasos de comedia no funcionan, y la aventura en la Primera Guerra Mundial es flojita. Lo mejor sucede en al principio, cuando nos muestran la infancia y la adolescencia de Diana en la isla Paraíso, con los entrenamientos de las amazonas como regalito para los nostálgicos fetichistas.

Gal Gadot (modelo y actriz israelí) encarna el rol que supo inmortalizar Lynda Carter, y lo hace apenas con corrección, porque no parece tener demasiado ángel ni destreza actoral. Sin embargo, la actuación de Chris Pine (“Star trek”, “Sin nada que perder”) y la participación de Robin Wright (“House of cards”), la vinculación del personaje con la mitología y la impresionante realización técnica y visual le ganan la pulseada a un film algo abrumador y dilatado, que sin embargo funciona como entretenimiento para el gran público.

Desde el primer minuto, con imágenes de dioses volando entre las nubes, Mujer Maravilla alecciona, con el dedo en alto, sobre el desastre sin solución de la Humanidad. Otra vez sopa, piensa uno, con dos horas por delante, en la línea solemne y discursera de las últimas incursiones del universo del cómic de DC en el cine (la ridícula Batman vs Superman, la fallida El escuadrón suicida). Pero lo cierto es que esta nueva apuesta, film entero para la heroína que aparecía como invitada en Batman vsSuperman, lanzado como feminista para los tiempos que corren, logra mejores y más entretenidos momentos que sus precedesoras. En su primera y mejor mitad, la película se detiene en el prólogo, origen de Diana de niña a mujer amazonas, en la isla protegida del mundo que se entrena para luchar, ignorando su verdadero poder. Un derrotero visto y contado, detalles más o menos, en la historia de otros superhéroes, pero aquí con el contexto fantástico de las guerreras a caballo. Cuando un espía americano (Chris Pine) cae en las aguas de la isla, Diana decide irse con él para acabar con el dios de la guerra. Y en esa incursión de una belleza de otro mundo en el de los hombres y mujeres en la Londres de la primera guerra mundial está lo mejor del film, cuando la directora Patty Jenkins y su elenco se divierten y nos divierten, paso de comedia, con los choques culturales e históricos entre Diana (Gal Gadot) y una sociedad en la que las mujeres no entraban a las reuniones de hombres y mucho menos dirimían los problemas a golpes y patadas. Ahí se desarrolla también, con humor blanco y simpatía, el romance entre los protagonistas. Lo que sigue incluye el avance de un villano muy pobre para la magnitud de la propuesta, una Elena Anaya con el rostro tapado con una máscara como en La piel que habito de Almodóvar (!) y la sustitución de las escenas bélicas por toneladas de efectos especiales macro, al servicio del mismo mantra: los hombres son malos y no conocen la paz, están condenados y no merecen diosas que vengan a salvarlos. Una batalla final que alterna destrucción masiva con filosofada, hiriendo la inteligencia del público de cualquier edad y ya ni parece cine.
Tarea difícil la de Patty Jenkins (“Monster”) superar la serie icónica de los años setenta protagonizada por Lynda Carter, tal vez una de las más recordadas en la historia de la televisión y adaptar para esta época al personaje creado por William Moulton Marston, fuente de inspiración para millones de personas. Jenkins descansa en el carisma de la nueva Mujer Maravilla, Gal Gadot (potente, sólida, enigmática), para construir un relato en medio de la primera guerra mundial sobre lucha, ideales, amor y pasión, pero también sobre identidad y búsqueda de respuestas ante lo diferente. Durante su primera parte, desarrollada en Temiscira, que pinta de forma concreta a Diana y el devenir del personaje.
Diana es una amazona que vive en una isla de mujeres concebida y criada para ser una guerrera. Cuando un piloto cae en el lugar, la joven se entera de un conflicto mundial de proporciones: es el momento de que la Mujer Maravilla entre en acción. Ambientada durante la Primera Guerra, esta película retoma el espíritu colorido de las cintas de superhéroes de los ochenta y noventa. El ambiente oscuro y depresivo post Nolan parece haber quedado relegado, dando lugar a un filme en el que la acción es lo más importante. En la historia, saludablemente, se va al grano, por eso el guión no se entrevera en explicaciones, conexiones entre distintas películas o linajes laberínticos para presentar una trama que remite al clásico y efectivo "camino del héroe". Gal Gadot, hermosa y carismática, es una Mujer Maravilla potente, de carácter y de armas tomar. La lente de la cámara la ama y ella lo aprovecha seduciendo en cada plano que le toca jugar. Patty Jenkins, la directora, logra un filme redondo y una mirada elocuente y femenina del Universo DC, sin caer en el feminismo, ni los estereotipos, ni en una fácil mirada sexual del personaje principal. Buenos efectos, una dirección de arte asombrosa y un elenco sólido redondean la mejor cinta de la franquicia iniciada con El Hombre de Acero. Una película con corazón y humor. Merecido opus para un personaje, que como todas las mujeres del mundo, es una maravilla.
Las mujeres al (super) poder Si allá por 2013 nos hubieran dicho que esta “nueva generación” de películas basadas en personajes de DC Comics nos iba a hacer esperar cuatro años (y tres reprobables films) para encontrarnos con el renacimiento fílmico de Mujer Maravilla, probablemente nuestra desilusión habría sido mayúscula. Bueno, déjenme decirles que la espera valió la pena. Largamente. Zack Snyder, director de grandes producciones como 300 o Watchmen y quien fuera criticado por su tarea al llegar a las grandes ligas de DC cuando se hizo cargo de los proyectos de Man of Steel y Batman vs Superman, en este caso es la figura más resonante pero entre los autores del guion de Mujer Maravilla ya que la labor de dirección quedó en manos de la talentosa Patty Jenkins (Monster). Primer gran acierto. Lo que Jenkins consigue en esta vuelta al cine de Wonder Woman es un equilibrio digno de destacar entre las distintas aristas que caracterizaban a un proyecto que, a priori, se mostraba bastante desafiante antes de la filmación. Porque lo que acá tenemos es el típico film de superhéroes que reinicia la historia de su personaje principal (esto es: el público conoce de sobra al protagonista pero igual debemos contarle sus inicios) pero con la particularidad de que este ya hizo su aparición cinematográfica y en el pasado reciente, como ocurrió cuando Diana Prince se calzó el traje de la Mujer Maravilla en la mencionada Batman vs Superman. El reto en este sentido consiste en no aburrir con las presentaciones pero sin contar, para esto, con el elemento sorpresa o de impacto que la actriz elegida y su presencia y aspecto en pantalla pueden generar por el simple hecho de que todo esto ya lo vimos. Y en este punto es donde sale a relucir el trabajo de guión/dirección y principalmente el de Gal Gadot, a cargo de darle vida a uno de los superhéroes más icónicos de todos y en un contexto social global en el que los personajes protagónicos femeninos, por suerte, empiezan a tener gran preponderancia. Pero claro, Gal Gadot ES la Mujer Maravilla. Ya desde las primeras escenas, donde la vemos en sus inicios en la isla de Temiscira junto al resto de las amazonas, tenemos la total certeza de que la joven Diana es la Mujer Maravilla. No tiene puesto el traje, le cuesta un poco el duro entrenamiento al que la someten y no siempre está de acuerdo con las decisiones de su madre, que dicho sea de paso es la reina, y aun así la presencia y el magnetismo que logra Gal Gadot son hipnóticos. Para esto, vale decir también, que cuenta con un buen apoyo del libro que cuenta correcta pero sintéticamente su origen y el de su pueblo y de la dirección y armado visual de la película que muestra los inicios de las amazonas por medio de algo así como unas pinturas típicamente renacentistas que se mueven muy lentamente mientras Zeus, Ares y demás dioses hacen de las suyas. Pero si títulos anteriores como Suicide Squad se conformaron con hacer un buen trabajo con las presentaciones en desmedro del resto (y mayoría) de la trama, este no es el caso. Porque luego de establecer el vínculo actual (o relativamente actual ya que todo lo que sigue ocurrirá en el contexto de la primera guerra mundial) con los hombres –tal vez allí esté el único momento en el que el ritmo cae un poco– la historia se hace cargo de lo planteado y consigue sostenerse a partir de la relación entre Wonder Woman y ese vínculo humano que mencionaba (representado por el personaje de Steve Trevor a quien le da vida Chris Pine) y su disputa en paralelo con el villano de la película para el cual se reservaron un buen giro final. Un relato interesante, buenos personajes, actuaciones a la altura (con un elenco que se completa con David Thewlis, Robin Wright, Danny Huston y Elena Anaya), enormes efectos visuales para las escenas de acción, acertadas referencias estéticas y narrativas a los comics y una buena reflexión final de contenido le dan forma al combo de esta Mujer Maravilla que se perfila como una de las mejores películas del año en materia de superhéroes.
EL FIN DE LA INOCENCIA A fuerza de cambios necesarios y desgracias inevitables -como el alejamiento de Zack Snyder de Liga de la justicia por una desgracia familiar y su reemplazo por el aclamado Joss Whedon- el universo cinemático de DC va tomando un rumbo más definitivo. Más allá del éxito comercial dispar y las críticas lapidarias hacia las producciones anteriores que comenzaron a presentar a su staff de héroes (Superman y Batman, mayormente), la falta de un rumbo consistente y la dependencia excesiva de los logros de sus competidores y mirada de sus detractores, hicieron que el estudio fuese una fuente de burlas recurrente, basadas en la sucesión de decepciones. Desde la oscuridad, sordidez y desaturación impuestas en la imagen de héroes otrora brillantes como Superman -herencia de interpretación muy libre del Batman de Nolan-; pasando por los conflictos con resoluciones irrisorias -como la coincidencia de nombre entre las madres de los dos héroes insignia que resuelve una pelea-; y terminando con la fallida versión de un escuadrón de criminales que intentó plagiar el humor de sus competidores de Marvel, el estudio y uno de sus directores y guionistas responsables designados como lo es Snyder no lograron al momento una imagen contundente para atraer a un público más allá de una base de fanáticos cautivos. Pero la luz de esperanza para el cambio necesario llegó finalmente con el lucimiento de Gal Gadot como la Mujer Maravilla en Batman Vs Superman y luego la incorporación de Patty Jenkins (Monster) para su film en solitario y el que servirá de presentación del personaje. Gadot se ganó a la platea de manera sobrada en su primera aparición y logró que quienes asocian tanto al personaje con la actriz que le dio entidad a su imagen televisiva, Lynda Carter, se rindan ante el carisma de la actriz israelí sin caer en comparaciones odiosas. Dado ese paso, sólo faltaba ver qué podía hacer Jenkins con el personaje sin convertirlo en un panfleto en exceso feminista. Y llegó el día de comprobarlo; la historia nos ubica en el presente, en momentos en los que Diana Prince se ve forzada a recordar cómo fue que llegó a convertirse en una superheroína a través del tiempo y desde que partiera de su amada Temiscira. Así es que en un flashback -que abarca la película entera-, nos vemos inmersos en la infancia de Diana y en su preparación a manos de su madre (Connie Nielsen) y su mentora (Robin Wright) para enfrentarla a un futuro incierto y con la esperanza de que no descubra el secreto sobre su verdadero origen. Ya en la adultez, la joven, convertida en una experta guerrera, recibe la visita inesperada del espía norteamericano Steve Trevor, con quien comenzará una relación basada en el objetivo de terminar con la guerra y matanza de inocentes en el mundo que jamás conoció antes, yendo contra toda orden y advertencia de la reina madre. Mujer Maravilla es tan clásica como innovadora en algunos aspectos: el feminismo está muy presente, pero no de una manera agresiva, sino muy bien construido desde la perspectiva de quien no conoce el mundo de los hombres ni cómo se manejan, y a pesar de eso tiene sus valores muy firmes a los que no piensa renunciar. En la isla amazona Temiscira sus habitantes siempre fueron mujeres y se muestra esa comunidad como un grupo que se desempeña y defiende sin necesitar al otro sexo, gracias a un método de procreación que si bien no se explica claramente, es de origen divino. Por tal razón el mundo exterior se le presenta a Diana como carente de lógica en la relación entre pares de distinto género -y sobre todo en la primera mitad del siglo pasado-, algo que se hace patente en pequeños chistes como en el que la secretaria de Trevor le explica en qué consiste su tarea y ella lo describe como “esclavitud”. La princesa también se ve obligada a interceder en cada pequeño acto de injusticia -algo problemático en plena guerra-, lo que causa los mayores problemas con su compañero, mucho más pragmático y enfocado en el objetivo final, pero ayuda a que surja como la mujer poderosa y dotada que se supone que es. Y esa escalada y evolución no se detendrá hasta que esté más y más cerca de la verdad que le fue negada, a lo largo de batallas que parecen finales y sólo son el preludio de otra más espectacular. Las escenas de acción están rodadas de manera impecable, aunque se abusa de las bondades de la post-producción y del slow-motion, que a veces convierte al alter ego de Diana Prince en la protagonista de un comercial de shampoo. También resulta algo molesto el recurso de los saltos al cielo que da el personaje, que parece no haber sido desarrollado con la mayor pericia y recuerda a aquellas peleas del Neo digital de la trilogía de Matrix, algo bastante reprochable dada la precisión que sabemos que puede lograrse hoy. Más allá de eso, la épica en las batallas emociona y la interpretación de Gadot logra que sea todo mucho más creíble. Ayuda su química y complicidad con Trevor (Chris Pine), otro multitareas cuya naturalidad facilita la empatía y hace querible a la pareja. Los villanos (hay más de uno) cumplen su función de balance y también sus niveles de maldad e importancia, al estilo de un videojuego. Wonder Woman es profundamente clásica en su narración, para nada compleja y fiel reflejo de la historia que le dio origen, pero también aprovecha para criticar la discriminación y la desigualdad de manera inteligente. Tiene moralejas, historias de redención, un eje romántico pero por sobre todo, un aprendizaje, el de Diana, la princesa guerrera que comienza a descubrir en su salida de la isla las complejidades del mundo exterior. Y nosotros la descubrimos a ella, que viene a nivelar tanta testosterona en los héroes conocidos y a maravillarnos con el resurgimiento de un personaje que parecía irremplazable. Y si creen que miento, me someto al lazo de la verdad, que también existe como el escudo de Diana, tan fuerte como el del Capitán América pero no diseñado por Tony Stark sino por los mismos dioses del Olimpo. Punto para DC, al fin.
Superheroína bravía, pero no muy apta para romance Pensar en un superhéroe de historieta, ya sea Batman o Superman, es pensar en una serie de aventuras sobrenaturales en un ambiente urbano y relativamente contemporáneo, como el de Ciudad Gótica o Metrópolis. Por eso esta versión para cine de la popular Wonder Woman ofrece algo bastante novedoso: una superheroína que se desenvuelve en un contexto épico y de época. Según las historietas originales de DC Comics, Diana, más conocida como la Mujer Maravilla, vino de la isla de las Amazonas creada por el mismísimo Zeus y se encaminó a luchar contra los villanos alemanes, que en la vieja serie de TV protagonizada por Lynda Carter eran villanos nazis, y que en esta película se transforman en los esbirros del Kaiser de la Primera Guerra Mundial. Por eso, los mejores momentos de esta nueva "Wonder Woman" incluyen espectaculares combates de las amazonas armadas con flechas y espadas contra soldados alemanes con fusiles y ametralladoras, y hasta una gran escena con Diana liderando a los soldados franceses hacia la tierra de nadie en la guerra de trincheras. Estos climax épicos se intercalan con algunos divertidos gags referidos al choque cultural de la amazona en medio de Londres, y los interludios románticos entre la pareja protagónica formada por la heroína Gal Gadot y el espía inglés Chris Pine. Como la pareja no saca muchas chispas en lo romántico, y con más de dos horas y demasiados elementos distintos a reunir, la película se vuelve larga y despareja, más allá de sus cosas atractivas. Por ejemplo, la desfigurada y malísima científica alemana encarnada por Elena Enaya.
La extraña dama A mediados de los ochenta ya existía una grieta: o eras de DC o eras de Marvel. Este último supo a lo largo de la historia llevar a sus personajes a ensamblarlos junto a las modas que iban surgiendo. En cambio DC siempre se mantuvo más constante y su evolución se vio a largo alcance, aportando una mirada más adulta a un mundo comercialmente dominado por los globos de colores de “la casa de las ideas”. Aunque no lo crean, esta fisura aún se mantiene en las adaptaciones cinematográficas que ambas editoriales encararon. Marvel ajusta sus cómics más recientes a la pantalla grande, mientras que DC se encarga de llevar sus historias de los ochenta. Y es de allí que uno se sienta a ver un film de Marvel y se retira de la sala con una carcajada. Las escenas se desarrollan de la forma chiste-acción-chiste-explosión-chiste, lo que a la larga nos termina dando esa sensación de placer culposo. Y con DC sucede todo lo contrario. Recordar la primera escena de Batman V. Superman para entender a qué me refiero. Y desde luego que a la distancia encontramos que esta película ha tenido fallas, pero definitivamente no es una película más para niños ni las que los adultos comiqueros están acostumbrados a ver en esta era. Y llegó finalmente Wonder Woman, con toda esa mochila tras su espalda cargada de tener que “salvar” a DC, ser lo suficientemente inteligente como para gustar pero sin tratar al público de idiota, demostrarle a todos que tetas más grandes no garantizan una mejor película y que chistes malos tras chistes malos ya es figurita repetida. Y el resultado es extraordinario. Comencemos por uno de los factores más interesantes de la película. Diana (Gal Gadot) es la princesa de las amazonas (una raza de guerreras pacificadoras que fueron creadas por Zeus) y siendo una niña escucha las historias que su madre Hipólita (Connie Nielsen) le cuenta acerca de Ares y su regreso algún día como el dios de la guerra. Su tía Antíope (Robin Wright), creída que realmente eso sucederá y deben estar preparados para un futuro conflicto, la entrena durante toda su vida. Años más tarde el piloto y espía Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) se estrella en la isla de Temiscira, un paraíso perdido que está oculto a los ojos de los hombres. Con él llega el enemigo y Diana descubrirá que más allá de su tierra existe una guerra que podría finalizar con todos los hombres. La princesa cree que Ares es el responsable de tal destrucción y emprende su viaje fuera de la isla junto a Steve, llevando consigo la espada Godkiller. El guion está a cargo de Geoff Johns, importante guionista de cómics, a quien se le nota la buena pluma para adaptar la esencia del personaje y generar los balances entre la acción y la emoción. Vemos en un principio la mitología que envuelve a la Princesa Diana para pasar luego a su intento de adaptación al nuevo mundo hundido en la guerra, con algún toque de humor que no desentona, donde le tocará vivir como lo hacen los hombres y llegar a entender si el culpable de la guerra es Ares o proviene de la naturaleza de los mortales. Por el lado de la dirección, el mayor logro de Patty Jenkins fue llevar al personaje creado por William Moulton Masrton hace más de 75 años al nivel de despreocuparse por lo que pueda suceder a futuro. Le consignó a esa mujer el poder necesario como para desarrollar su historia centrada justamente en ella misma. Podrán decir que los villanos (Elena Anaya como Doctora Veneno y Danny Houston como el militar alemán) no están tan bien desenvueltos, pero coincide con la consigna de que es una película sobre Wonder Woman, y la coloca a ella en el centro de todo. Entendió a la perfección el personaje y resaltó sus valores y habilidades. Respecto a Gal Gadot, qué decir más que ella es la Mujer Maravilla. Transmite fortaleza, carisma valentía, belleza, bondad. No podría hacerlo otra actriz. Al igual que cuando hace su aparición en Batman V Superman con el traje de heroína, en esta película cada aparición suya hace que la pantalla encandile. Y Chris Pine funciona correcto como el interés amoroso. La química entre ellos traspasa y es el puntapié para que esta princesa se acerque a los humanos. La fotografía es otro gran acierto de la película. Tenemos colores luminosos al inicio, donde los sucesos se presentan en el idílico mundo de Temiscira, esa isla en la que solo viven mujeres amazonas. Y luego pasamos a los matices más sombríos y oscuros, característicos de DC. Y el soundtrack también se compone de melodías aceptables, sin olvidar de la canción con la que ya recordaremos a Wonder Woman por siempre en el cine, a partir de su inserción en la banda de sonido del film anterior junto a Batman y a Superman. La Mujer Maravilla, al igual que DC en los cómics, se permitió dar de golpe un paso agigantado en materia de adaptaciones. El drama y la acción no logran superponerse en ningún momento y han sabido transmitirnos el cariño y respeto con el que llegaron a hacer esta película. Podremos encontrar algunos lugares comunes como el uso exagerado del CGI, pero en líneas generales la película es recibida con aplausos y victoriosa. Llevar a la pantalla grande una historia de este tipo interpretada por una mujer no hace más que hacernos dar cuenta que es necesario abrirle la puerta a otros personajes femeninos que esperan ser vistos.
La obsesión bélica Y aquí estamos ante un nuevo intento de parte de Hollywood por recuperar aquella cultura de masas de antaño en donde la industria del espectáculo tenía una injerencia mucho más importante que la actual en materia del viejo arte de dictar qué ver/ consumir y qué no. La estrategia vuelve a ser siempre la misma, la lógica serial, léase la táctica de encadenar arbitrariamente una ristra interminable de remakes, reboots, precuelas, continuaciones, rip-offs, etc. teniendo de base uno o varios personajes ya instalados en el imaginario popular desde décadas y décadas, con vistas a reducir a cero el margen de confusión y con el objetivo principal de fondo de satisfacer a todos los segmentos de un mercado cada vez más fragmentado. Mediante productos impersonales e infantiloides, se neutraliza la riqueza del séptimo arte y al mismo tiempo se lo vincula a una especie de “televisión con esteroides”. A mitad de camino entre las sonseras que suelen idear los descerebrados del marketing y sus homólogos del branding más perezoso, ese que diseña campañas publicitarias gigantescas de apuntalamiento de personajes craneados para púberes de mediados del siglo XX (lo que pone en perspectiva la mediocridad intelectual de los adultos de nuestros días, el público excluyente de estos opus), Mujer Maravilla (Wonder Woman, 2017) nos ofrece una experiencia bastante aburrida pero que podría haber sido peor, basta con recordar los últimos bodrios de superhéroes para comprobarlo (DC y Marvel están al mismo nivel de redundancia y pobreza general). En vez de volcar el asunto hacia el terreno trash, ya que al fin y al cabo hablamos de una de las figuras más ridículas de la fauna de las capas y las calzas ajustadas, el film es un mamotreto anodino con un metraje excesivo de 141 minutos. Por suerte la propuesta no nos satura desde el comienzo con una andanada de cancherismo hueco y CGI como Guardianes de la Galaxia Vol. 2 (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, 2017) ni cae en las payasadas narrativas de Batman v Superman: El Origen de la Justicia (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2016) y Escuadrón Suicida (Suicide Squad, 2016). La historia detalla la génesis del personaje del título entre las amazonas, una señorita que está destinada a luchar contra Ares, el Dios de la Guerra según la mitología griega: luego del típico inicio con “entrenamiento para la batalla” desde pequeña, una Diana veinteañera (Gal Gadot) rescata de una muerte segura a Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), un espía norteamericano durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, a quien por supuesto luego acompaña en su misión en pos de detener al par de villanos de turno, el general alemán Ludendorff (Danny Huston) y la Doctora Maru (Elena Anaya), un dúo que está preparando un arma de destrucción masiva semejante al gas mostaza que generaría una gran matanza de inocentes (de una forma similar a lo que provocaron los bombardeos atómicos estadounidenses sobre Hiroshima y Nagasaki y la utilización de napalm durante la Guerra de Vietnam, por citar dos ejemplos que se suelen pasar por alto en el mainstream chauvinista del país del norte). El tramo del relato que mejor funciona es el cómico basado en la “diferencia cultural” entre Diana y Trevor y en la llegada de ambos a Londres, el resto es una retahíla de escenas ATP en la línea del “camino del héroe”, la formación de un mini pelotón a la Doce del Patíbulo (The Dirty Dozen, 1967) y -desde ya- la enorme contienda final entre Diana y el susodicho Ares. Todo es tan pero tan de manual que uno no puede dejar de sonreír ante la catarata de estereotipos y secuencias repetidas hasta el hartazgo en cada uno de estos productos, pertenecientes a un formato totalmente agotado y destinado a espectadores simplones, atolondrados y muy poco exigentes. Con respecto a las diferencias y los puntos en común entre Gadot y la que fuera la encarnación más recordada del personaje en el campo televisivo, aquella Lynda Carter de la serie de la década del 70, ambas tienen el mismo look de modelo publicitaria un poco anoréxica y pasada de rosca, aunque Gadot se destaca por unos rasgos faciales prominentes que la asemejan a cualquier actriz del porno hardcore. Si bien hay un intento por reflexionar en torno a la obsesión bélica de los seres humanos, la película termina siendo otra paradoja del montón que nos sermonea sobre el amor mientras desparrama individuos que mueren sin sangre y balbucea frasecitas genéricas de cotillón…
La nueva Mujer Maravilla, un estereotipo alternativo de mujer Después de una larga espera por fin llegó el primer largometraje acerca del personaje femenino más importante del universo de los comics: la Mujer Maravilla (Wonder Woman, 2017), figura que ya había tenido su debut en otra película de la saga de DC Batman V. Superman: El Origen de la Justicia (2016). Antes de adentrarnos en el universo que propone esta película, es importante recordar algunas consideraciones del comic que da origen a dicha transposición. En 1941, en plena Segunda Guerra Mundial, el psicólogo norteamericano Willliam M. Marston- defensor de los derechos de las mujeres- creó el personaje de la Mujer Maravilla pensando en darle a las nuevas generaciones femeninas un nuevo modelo de mujer que se oponga al tipo de mujer canónico de le época. Marston junto con su esposa Elizabeth se inspiraron en la mujer liberal de la época y también en Olivia Byrne (una mujer que mantenía un vínculo poligámico). Las ilustraciones de esta historieta original eran de Harry G. Peter. Según la actual dibujante de la mujer maravilla Nicola Scott, dicho personaje “se convirtió en un faro para el movimiento We Can Do It encabezado por Rosie, la Remachadora. Ella fue el primer personaje femenino que consiguió romper con la emergente tendencia de superhéroes, a menudo superando a Superman y Batman”[1]. Incluso es pertinente destacar que en los´70 la feminista Gloria Steinem utilizó a la Mujer Maravilla para aparecer en la portada del primer número de la revista Ms.Magazine y al poco tiempo se convirtió en la primera protagonista femenina de la serie de acción interpretada por Lynda Carter (la cual abarcó desde 1975 a 1979). Ahora sí estamos listos para adentrarnos en el análisis de la película Mujer Maravilla dirigida por Patty Jenkins (Monster, 2003), es decir que el filme estuvo en manos de una mujer, lo cual no es un detalle menor, puesto que la mayoría de las películas de superhéroes están dirigidas por hombres. Por lo tanto, no sólo hay una primacía de personajes de heroicos masculinos, sino también que rara vez las transposiciones cinematográficas de las historietas están a cargo de realizadoras mujeres. Lejos del estereotipo de belleza norteamericano que presentan las mujeres maravilla anteriores, esta morocha de ojos marrones, encarnada en la figura de la actriz israelí Gal Gadot, le devuelve al personaje la potencia original de la novela gráfica. Recordemos que la Mujer Maravilla es una Amazona que será una especie de inmigrante y embajadora de la paz en nuestro mundo. Si bien en el vestuario de la Mujer Maravilla siguen predominando el rojo, el azul y el dorado, luce menos norteamericana que las anteriores, ya que los tonos son menos estridentes y no posee las estrellas que pertenecen a la bandera de Estados Unidos. Asimismo, a nivel formal el vestuario remite a la antigüedad clásica y sus armaduras, aunque se supone que griega, tiene más bien características romanas. La Mujer Maravilla funciona como una película de presentación de la historia del personaje, la cual justamente comienza con un flashback de su protagonista que sigue vinculada al universo de Bruce Wayne (Batman). Entonces, somos testigos del viaje de autoconocimiento de esta heroína desde su niñez en una isla llamada Themyscira (nombre que realmente se corresponde a una antigua ciudad griega), la cual sólo es habitada por mujeres llamadas Amazonas, algo similar a la isla de Lesbos de la Grecia arcaica. Hija de la reina de las Amazonas, es decir la princesa Diana, estará dotada de magia, maravilla y poderes que provienen de su concepción divina, pues esta es hija secreta de Zeus. En dicho sentido, el filme fusiona el comic original de los´40 con su relanzamiento posterior de los ´80, escrito por George Pérez. Es pertinente destacar que la historia de las Amazonas (cuyo origen se encuentra en la mitología clásica) la cual está compuesta por mujeres guerreras, está narrada mediante un hermoso tableau vivant cinematográfico que representa una de las imágenes más bellas del filme. La referencia al mundo antiguo griego es constante en la Mujer Maravilla, ya que estas mujeres guerreras son entrenadas para la protección de la paz en el cosmos, cuya amenaza se supone es Ares, el Dios de la guerra. Lo interesante de las Amazonas es que no son sólo guerreras, sino que en este caso también son políglotas, es decir que además despliegan gran inteligencia mental aparte de la fuerza física. Otro elemento interesante del filme es que todas las mujeres de la isla de Themyscira poseen características físicas muy diferentes representando una interesante diversidad cultural. Hasta aquí se ha delineado toda la primera parte del largometraje, la cual es la más interesante. Se considera que a partir de aquí el relato pierde fuerza y astucia, pero se vincula formalmente a la saga perteneciente al universo de DC Comics. En esta segunda parte Diana tendrá contacto con el resto del mundo, cuya base principal será el Reino Unido durante la Primera Guerra Mundial y su enfrentamiento con Alemania. Sin embargo, el relato posee también elementos de la Segunda Guerra Mundial (lo que se corresponde más con el comic original) como el uso destructivo del gas o ciertas figuras como militares de alto rango y médicos que hacen experimentos. En dicho sentido, es importante aportar que el productor Curt Kenemoto dijo al respecto que les pareció interesante que Diana llegue a Londres en 1918, el mismo año en que algunas de las mujeres obtuvieron el derecho a votar. En este segundo segmento del filme aparecen los tres villanos del mismo: el general Ludendorff (caracterizado como un jerarca nazi, aunque esto históricamente sea posterior), quien trabajará en conjunto con la doctora Maru, la cual es representada con una máscara que remite a El Fantasma de la Ópera, y por último Ares. Es decir, que la potencia femenina no sólo está encarnada en la Mujer Maravilla sino también en esta brillante científica. En consecuencia, Mujer Maravilla presenta una tradicional dicotomía entre buenos y malos. En dicho sentido, queda a la vista la falencia del guión una vez avanzado el relato en una débil construcción de los villanos, pero hay que reconocer que no es una falla intrínseca de esta película sino de la mayoría de las pertenecientes al universo de los comics, a excepción de X-Men (perteneciente a Marvel). No es casual que Ares por momentos tenga formalmente semejanzas al Magneto de X-Men cuando este utiliza sus dotes. Para concluir, a pesar de un guión por momentos poco sólido se considera al filme Mujer Maravilla lo mejor dentro de la nueva saga del universo de DC Comics. En este mundo de hombres la Mujer Maravilla se hará presente con toda su potencia y un gran Leitmotiv que acompaña sus batallas. Era más que necesario que este personaje sea llevado a la pantalla grande, y si bien podría tener aún más Feminist Power, vale la pena su existencia y la acertada elección de Gal Gadot como protagonista, ya que previamente ha protagonizado varias películas de acción, como por ejemplo algunas de la saga de Rápido y Furioso. La Mujer Maravilla esboza varias cuestiones que oscilan desde el lugar de la mujer, la globalización, la guerra, la diversidad cultural e incluso desde una mención sútil el conflicto entre los colonizadores y los indios. Esperemos que la potencia y el feminismo de la Mujer Maravilla se enaltezcan en La Liga de la Justicia -la cual se encuentra actualmente en post producción- y que no quede reducida tal como dijo N. Scott a “una mujer atractiva en traje de baño”. Se aguarda también que su mensaje original dure más de lo que ha durado Wonder Woman como embajadora honoraria de las Naciones Unidas para el empoderamiento de las mujeres, tal como ha sucedido en diciembre del 2016. Mientras Superman y Batman han acumulado décadas de éxitos y algunos cimbronazos en el cine y la televisión, Wonder Woman de momento solo contaba con una serie de culto protagonizada por Lynda Carter en la década del 70 y numerosos intentos fallidos por llevar su historia a la meca del cine. Es menester destacar que en la inmensa mayoría de las adaptaciones hollywoodenses del comic a la pantalla grande, las figuras femeninas han tenido poco más que una mera función decorativa. Pero la Wonder Woman de Gal Gadot, desde su debut con una contundente entrada en BATMAN V SUPERMAN, supo dejar en claro que un cambio de paradigma estaba concentrándose a su alrededor. Dirigida por Patty Jenkins, WONDER WOMAN es la película más categórica y homogénea que WarnerBros ha realizado respecto al emergente universo cinematográfico de DC Comics. La sensatez y el sentimiento definen esta celebrada adaptación inaugural de Wonder Woman a la pantalla grande, que si bien se trata de una clásica historia de origen, ofrece un propicio desarrollo respecto al tópico del camino del héroe, perdón, en esta ocasión “heroína”. Aludiendo a la sensatez de trabajar un relato sin colocar cualquier otro nivel narrativo adicional para, finalmente, obtener un resultado por demás claro y satisfactorio. WONDER WOMAN nos presenta una producción que se toma las cosas con mucha mayor calma que la trepidante BATMAN V SUPERMAN de Zack Snyder con sus (muchos) méritos y (no tantos) defectos. El relato inaugural de la princesa amazona en la pantalla grande resulta ser la película que WarnerBros/DC Entertainment necesitaban para establecerse con un renovado espíritu y mayor solidez de cara a un universo cinematográfico integrado, incluso ante la severa mirada de un sector de la crítica que parecía ensañada ante el advenimiento colectivo de los superhéroes de DC compitiendo con los Marvelitas Avengers. La realizadora Patty Jenkins (Monster; The Killing) lleva su labor con solvencia y resultados por demás convincentes que denotan un idóneo equilibrio, atención por la fluidez y ritmo narrativo de la película. Consciente de la presión alrededor de la tarea que representa la primera película protagonizada por la heroína más grande del comic, Patty Jenkins opta por definir las formas sencillas y sin estridencias de una historia clásica de origen: una hermosa fábula respecto al origen mitológico de Diana, la princesa amazona y su encuentro con el mundo de los hombres. WONDER WOMAN es una película que encuentra su inspiración a la luz del encanto narrativo de clásicos como SUPERMAN (Richard Donner. 1978) e INDIANA JONES (Steven Spielberg. 1981), relatos que privilegian y resguardan su inocencia por encima de una inigualable impronta épica, fantástica y aventurera. El guión de Allan Heinberg ( Gilmore Girls, Grey´s anatomy) captura la esencia de las viñetas originales del psicólogo William Moulton Marston y el dibujante Harry G. Peter, publicadas por primera vez en las páginas de All-Star Comics #8 en diciembre de 1941. Heinberg motiva que los acontecimientos de WONDER WOMAN (2017) tengan lugar durante la primera guerra mundial, para acentuar la divinidad y condición eterna del personaje, desmarcándose de cierta familiaridad con la segunda guerra mundial y el contexto popular del Capitán América. La trama de la WONDER WOMAN relata el origen de Diana como una semi-diosa, amada hija de Hipólita (Connie Nielsen), reina de las amazonas. A pesar que su madre hace todo para protegerla, no lograra evitar que Diana se vuelva una amazona diestra en el arte de la batalla. El destino de la joven es inobjetable desde el momento en que accidentalmente el piloto americano Steve Trevor ( Chris Pine ) sea rescatado por la princesa en cercanía de las isla de Themyscira. Tomando conocimiento de la primera guerra mundial, Diana emprenderá así su periplo heroico en un intento de salvar a la humanidad, dispuesta a contener la ferocidad humana desatada en la por los horrores bélicos, Una instancia que alimenta la esencia de su más categórico adversario: Ares, el dios de la guerra. Tanto en su primera adaptación a la pantalla grande como en las viñetas inaugurales, Wonder Woman siempre ha representado un icono que supo transitar relatos impregnados de metáforas sobre el feminismo, la opresión y la manera en que las mujeres resultaban desestimadas debido a un prejuicio social de debilidad. Además de ser la primera superproducción destinada a un personaje femenino e icono de la cultura popular del ámbito superheroico tanto de DC como de Marvel Comics, WONDER WOMAN es la primera película de su género dirigida por una mujer. Dando evidencia concreta que Patty Jenkins es una idónea realizadora para llevar a cabo cualquier superproducción que se le presente. La osadía es algo que caracteriza las decisiones de casting de Zack Snyder como productor general del universo cinematográfico de Warner/DC Comics. Cuando la modelo y actriz israelí Gal Gadot (Fast & the furious) fue elegida para interpretar a la popular superheroína muchos tomaron la noticia con desconfianza lanzando juicios de valor a raudales, considerando que se trataba de una actriz inexperta e inclusive que resultaba demasiado delgada para encarnar a uno de los mayores iconos del cómic. Entonces sucedió, la presentación de Gal Gadot en BATMAN VS SUPERMAN resulto inobjetable, por demás cautivante y una verdadera fiesta para celebrar en el cine los 75 años de vida de Wonder Woman en los comics. Y llego entonces el momento de dar el siguiente paso: Gal Gadot con su carisma supo ganarse a los espectadores, por demás lista para protagonizar la película dedicada a la princesa amazona. En WONDER WOMAN, Gal Gadot captura la esencia del personaje desde la intrépida princesa Diana, hasta el épico nacimiento de una abnegada heroína forjada por la fuerza de su género. Chris Pine (Star Trek) es su coprotagonista, interpretando a Steve Trevor, un héroe forjado en la tradición de clásicos referentes del cine de aventuras como Errol Flynn y Douglas Fairbanks Jr-, quien junto a Wonder Woman y un pintoresco grupo de aliados guiaran a Wonder Woman detrás las líneas enemigas. Se podrá considerar que los dos villanos representados por Elena Ayana interpretando a Doctor Poison y Danny Huston como el loco general alemán Erich Ludendorff resulten algo genéricos, pero lo cierto es que son simples marionetas detrás de una deidad que se prepara para ajustar cuentas con la princesa amazona, su propósito y su estirpe. Wonder Woman no se trata de una película de héroes contra villanos, refiere de la aparición de un una heroína y su contacto con el mundo, en la que acaso sea la primera película de superhéroes con una protagonista que no es tomada como un simple símbolo sexual, sino que resulta la encarnación idónea de un mensaje de justicia, paz e igualdad. Un origen épico. Siendo princesa y la única niña de la isla escondida de las amazonas, Diana toda su vida fue alguien especial hasta en la paradisíaca isla de Themyscira. De niña fue criada aprendiendo cada detalle de la historia de su pueblo, encargado por Zeus de defender a la humanidad cuando se produzca el regreso del casi olvidado dios de la guerra, Ares. Convertida en adolescente, comenzó su duro entrenamiento para convertirse en la mejor guerrera de la isla, ansiosa por tener la oportunidad de cumplir con esa misión heroica que muchas otras ya no esperan que suceda. En su aislamiento, las Amazonas ignoran que Europa lleva varios años en guerra con millones de muertes acumuladas. Todo cambia cuando la guerra llega a sus costas en la forma del ejército alemán dando caza a un espía al servicio de Inglaterra. Impactada por las imágenes de crueldad que le pintan las historias de Steve, la joven Diana también toma con cierto entusiasmo la idea del posible retorno de su enemigo y la posibilidad de cumplir sus sueños de heroísmo, aunque tenga que hacerlo sin el apoyo del resto de las Amazonas. Convencida de que derrotando al dios de la guerra el conflicto se terminaría inmediatamente, convence a su nuevo aliado de llevarla hasta donde los combates sean más intensos, según las leyendas la señal inequívoca de la presencia de Ares. La primera justiciera: La historia de Mujer Maravilla es técnicamente una precuela de Batman vs Superman, pero es tan independiente que por momentos hasta parece un personaje diferente. No es un error, claramente es intencional mostrar a una versión mucho más joven e inocente de Diana, alejada de esa mujer sofisticada capaz de sostener un duelo verbal con Bruce Wayne. Y deja picando la pregunta sobre qué habrá sucedido en ese siglo intermedio para que se convierta en una persona bastante más descreída de la humanidad y reticente a salir en su defensa, aunque finalmente mande al banco a Batman cuando hubo que enfrentarse a Doomsday. Fluidez y simpleza narrativa: El resto de la trama no necesita de mucho más análisis. No porque tenga grandes agujeros sino porque Mujer Maravilla sigue un camino bastante lineal desde A hasta B y todo sucede como se espera, con una simpleza que no pretende provocar sorpresas ni hacer propuestas extravagantes pero que a la vez alcanza para que -aunque dura más de dos horas- muy pocas veces pierda el ritmo. Ese ritmo se apoya principalmente en escenas de acción visualmente impactantes donde la princesa Amazona se enfrenta a grupos de soldados con abuso de la cámara lenta y sin una gota de sangre. Ya sabemos que a los estudios suele aterrarle la idea de dejar afuera de la sala a cualquier mayor de 13 años. El problema es que se siente bastante contradictorio ver a tanta gente recibir balazos y flechas, o ser atravesados por una espada, sin que quede el mínimo rastro escarlata. No es que desde ahora todas las películas de superhéroes deberían apuntar a un público adulto, pero Diana pelea cuerpo a cuerpo con una ferocidad que no parece encajar con ese enfoque atenuado que terminó recibiendo. Sola contra el mundo: Además de tener un tratamiento visual sólido, que es el mayor atractivo de la película, Gal Gadot hace muy bien su trabajo y se afirma como un personaje fuerte de la Liga de la Justicia. Sin embargo, está muy sola en esta película. Los personajes secundarios y hasta el co-protagonista son poco trascendentes para la trama. Aún más notoria es la falta de fuerza del villano, algo bastante más difícil de sobrellevar en este género. A pesar de todas estas críticas, Mujer Maravilla no es una mala producción. Es simple, es clásica, no tiene grandes fallidos y entretiene. En el fondo, lo que le juega en contra es llegar demasiado tarde a un género saturado donde ya hace falta buscar algún rasgo distintivo para poder destacar sobre el resto. En este caso explota el hecho de ser la primera heroína mujer en encabezar su propia película, algo que no es poco pero que se aborda con tibieza. Al mismo tiempo que cada escena de combate interesante tiene a alguna amazona en el centro inspirando valor al resto, no esquiva los lugares comunes (como probarse todo el catálogo de una tienda de ropa o forzar una trama romántica que desentona). En ese sentido, sólo parece cumplir la función de que nos importe un poco la suerte del co-protagonista, sin mucho éxito. No es mala la voluntad de abordar el tema con humor, si bien no acierta mucho en la forma. El universo cinematográfico de DC arrancó tropezando, aunque admitamos que lo hizo intentando hacer algo diferente que la competencia. Si esta película es muestra de lo que viene, parecen estar resignando esa idea en pos de una fórmula probada con éxito más fácil, es decir: agregando humor, achatando personajes y sacrificando personalidad. Conclusión: La Mujer Maravilla es una entretenida película de acción heróica y la más sólida hasta el momento en el DCEU. Sin embargo, no deja de ser la más simple y clásica. Sin demasiado espacio para desarrollar personajes o profundizar en la historia, todo su impacto queda en las escenas de acción.
Hacía años que Warner venía prometiendo una película basada en la querida Wonder Woman. Miles de rumores, proyectos cancelados, nombres considerados y falsas esperanzas nos golpearon en la mandíbula al punto de perder toda esperanza. Un día la compañía anunció que Batman y Superman iban a tener un versus cinematográfico y que la israelí Gal Gadot iba a ponerse en la piel de este icono para formar la mítica trinidad que comenzaría un universo cinematográfico que llegó tarde a la fiesta. Con la obsesión de igualar a Marvel Studios y sus redituables Avengers, el proyecto terminó siendo una parafernalia desprolija que fusionó tantos arcos comiqueros que no dieron espacio a una historia pura y original. Pero entre tanto caos, el personaje de Gadot (el cual todos acusaban de ser sobrante en la fórmula) se ganó al corazón de los fans y su película individual se convirtió en uno de los films más anticipados. Su pequeña participación mostró a una Diana Prince fresca, fuerte y con una presencia tan contundente en sus escenas que opacaba a los mismísimos protagonistas de la idea. Claro que después de Escuadrón Suicida las ganas de seguir dándole oportunidades a DC fueron disminuyendo, lo que me obligó a pensar que Mujer Maravilla iba a limitarse a una gran interpretación y ya. ¡Sin embargo! Resultó que me topé con una de las mejores películas del género superheroico, y no exagero. El viaje de la heroína es, sin lugar a dudas, una sucesión de eventos prolijos y plasmados en pantalla de un modo tan perfecto que no deja de atrapar. La directora Patty Jenkins no sólo recrea la guerra increíblemente, sino que logró que cada escena de acción tenga lo justo y necesario para que no podamos despegar los ojos de la. Los planos, la fotografía, la paleta de color, los contrastes… artísticamente la película supera a muchas otras del género. Con un guión emocionante, dramático y lo suficientemente cómico, la historia cuenta con una fluidez mágica que nos hace olvidar de los otros fiascos y nos revela que Geoff Johns fue una decisión más que acertada para comenzar a ordenar el universo cinematográfico de DC Comics. En el legendario pueblo de las amazonas, la princesa Diana (Gadot) buscará a toda costa convertirse en la guerrera más rendidora de su clan. Con ayuda de su tía Antiope (Robin Wright) y dejando de lado las prohibiciones de su madre, la reina Hipollyta (Connie Nielsen), la heroína se convertirá en la última esperanza del planeta cuando un piloto americano, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), caiga en su tierra y le cuente las desdichas que el planeta está pasando a causa de la descarnizada I Guerra Mundial. Esto convencerá a la futura Wonder Woman de que Ares, el dios de la guerra, regresó de su exilio para corromper al hombre y lograr que destruya tanto a su prójimo como a sí mismo. Claro que es imposible no comparar el film con la genial pero distinta ‘Capitán América: el Primer Vengador‘, ya que la estructura de la idea tiene muchísimas similitudes; aunque disfruto de ambas franquicias, la película de la amazona cuenta con mejores personajes, mejor historia y mejores villanos que la primera entrega del centinela de la libertad interpretado por Chris Evans. Otro punto positivo es que la película no se cierra en dejar un mensaje feminista o pro-humanista, pues la historia se basa en la fe de la protagonista. Las actuaciones son iguales de buenas que los personajes que nos presentan. Ewan Bremmer haciendo de un trastornado pero adorable soldado escocés (con Kilt y todo), David Thewlis como un pacifista dispuesto a todo por el final de la guerra y la dupla Danny Huston-Elena Anaya como los villanos de turno que son sólo la antesala de un espectacular giro. Pero sin duda la que se roba los aplausos con total justificación es la preciosa Gal Gadot; la inocencia entrelazada con su implacable espíritu de guerrera está tan perfectamente transmitida que no hay momento desechable en su interpretación. La escena que llega a Londres y comienza a familiarizarse con el mundo de los hombres es una joya en todo sentido, la comedia es perfecta y la química entre Diana y Trevor es conmovedora y divertida. Sin más, quiero decirles que para la Liga de la Justicia me conformo con ver a WW pateando posaderas junto a Batman y compañía.
La superheroína que estábamos esperando Durante la década del noventa las películas de superhéroes no eran algo tan común, ni siquiera tan mainstream como ahora. Generalmente, estos largometrajes sólo eran disfrutados por cierto nicho de gente, porque carecían de la “seriedad” necesaria para los supuestos amantes del cine. Sí, al día de hoy –y gracias a Dios– eso cambió y podemos disfrutar más asiduamente a nuestros héroes favoritos en la pantalla grande. Volviendo a los años noventa que es cuando todo comienza a cambiar, y centrándonos en los personajes de DC Cómics, Superman ya había tenido cuatro filmes en la década anterior. Superchica también había pasado por el cine, Flash iba por su trilogía y Batman estaba marcando el camino. En 1996 se comienza a pensar en adaptar a la heroína más grande de todas: La Mujer Maravilla. Pasaron en todos estos años varios directores, guionistas y, por supuesto, actrices, hasta que la gran aparición de Gal Gadot como Wonder Woman en la pésima “Batman vs. Superman: El origen de la justicia” (2016) permitió que, por fin, la amazona se asegurar su propio filme. Así nos llega “Mujer Maravilla”, una película correcta que promete convertirse en una trilogía. Todo comienza en la actualidad, cuando Diana Prince (Gadot) recibe de Bruce Wayne una foto que data de la Primera Guerra Mundial en donde se la puede ver a ella junto a un grupo de soldados en una ciudad casi destruida. Esto hace que la imagen le traiga recuerdos y empieza a rememorar sus días en la protegida y paradisíaca isla tropical de Temiscira, poblada por guerreras amazonas. Allí es donde Diana nació y fue criada por su madre, la reina Hipólita (Connie Nielsen), y adiestrada en el arte de la guerra por su tía Antíope (Robin Wright) para convertirse en una luchadora invencible. Durante todos estos años, su madre la ha estado protegiendo del mundo exterior y manteniéndole oculto un secreto. Pero todo cambia en la vida de la princesa cuando el piloto estadounidense Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) se estrella por accidente en la isla. Trevor le contará a Diana lo que está ocurriendo en el mundo y es entonces cuando ella tomará la decisión de abandonar su hogar con el objetivo de salvar al mundo. Mientras lucha junto a los hombres, Diana descubrirá todos sus poderes y su verdadero destino. “Elektra” (2005), ese fue el último largometraje que vimos en donde un superhéroe femenino era el protagonista. Y, de hecho, Patty Jenkins es la primera realizadora en dirigir un filme de superhéroes centrado en una heroína. Esto sólo significa que el mundo está cambiando para mejor. Con lo que respecta al filme, hace rato que Warner/DC está en una pelea casi consigo misma para poder realizar un largometraje que pase la mediocridad de sus anteriores producciones. “Mujer Maravilla” tiene una protagonista que eclipsa la pantalla y se desenvuelve a la perfección en el rol, pero tiene otros problemas de los que no sale indemne. Hay un uso excesivo de la cámara lenta, hay escenas en que los efectos especiales parecen hechos por un estudiante de computación y la historia se vuelve un tanto sosa y demasiado naif. Es bueno ver que “Mujer Maravilla” le haya salvado las papas al Universo de DC, al menos por ahora. No es una obra maestra, tiene mil cosas criticables si uno quiere ponerse en exquisito, pero vale tener otra forma de hacer películas sobre superhéroes sin la tan mentada y reconocida fórmula que le aplica Marvel a sus productos. La “Mujer Maravilla” acaba de pisar fuerte y entra a competir en un terreno en que no la tiene fácil, pero tiene herramientas de sobra como para mejorar y abrirse paso por méritos propios. Bienvenida al mundo de superhéroes, Diana Prince, te estábamos esperando.
Puede que Gal Gadot, cuando firmó el contrato que la coronó protagonista de la esperada versión cinematográfica de Wonder Woman, no haya previsto que la película sobre la heroína fantástica por excelencia iba a mejorar casi todo lo que se hizo en el rubro comiquero durante los últimos años. Porque además de ser una superproducción cuidada, con un trabajo visual de impacto que en ningún momento resulta ridículo (ahí están The Avengers provocando vergüenza ajena) Wonder Woman es una gran película de aventuras. Patty Jenkins, la misma directora de la interesante Monster (aquella con una "afeada" Charlize Theron) y la serie The Killing, plantea una mirada renovadora sobre el camino del héroe, en este caso heroína que, además, se plantea terminar ella sola con el III Reich. El film nos dice que Diana (Gal Gadot), nacida en una isla ubicada en algún lugar del tiempo y el espacio habitada solo por amazonas lideradas por su madre (Connie Nielsen), llega a adulta como una guerrera de fuste, entrenada por su tía, la generala Antiope (Robin Wright). Hasta ese universo idílico llega por accidente un espía aliado (Chris Pine) mientras escapa de los nazis, que, claro, también invaden la isla y provocan una sangrienta batalla a orillas del mar. La historia se dispara cuando Diana decide cruzar al mundo de los humanos junto al soldado en cuestión, con la meta de matar a Ares, dios de la guerra al que ella relaciona con el nazismo basada en lo que le contó el joven espía. A partir de ahí el film se transforma en un tanque imbatible de aventuras, escenas de acción en alta definición y algunos diálogos que marcan diferencia con las tonterías que le suelen tocar en suerte a los actores que interpretan superhéroes. Entre ellos se destaca la conversación sobre reproducción humana que Gadot cierra con gracia filofeminista al decir que "los hombres son fundamentales para la reproducción pero no para la satisfacción sexual". ¿Hay entonces aquí una bandera feminista clavada en la galaxia machista de dioses comiqueros? Lejos está WM de significar eso, sobre todo por el mero hecho de que Diana depende de un militar para llegar hasta Europa para enfrentar al militar nazi que está a punto de suspender la rendición del Führer. Pero el aguijón ya está clavado y daría la impresión de que la casta heroica de Hollywood aflojará en los niveles de testosterona. De esa manera, con un guión que no sólo logra no dar vergüenza ajena sino que además aporta a que el género mejore y salga de la línea infantil que Marvel y DC venían poniendo en juego en los últimos años (con excepción de la gran Logan), Wonder Woman es una película que se planta sin problemas como parte de lo mejor que llegó a los cines en lo que va de 2017.
Comienza en el siglo XX y rápidamente nos lleva a la narración sobre los orígenes de Diana, una princesa de las amazonas que vive feliz en su comunidad, donde aprende desde niña todas las costumbres del lugar, allí no hay hombres, hija de Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), su instructora General Antiope (Robin Wright). Todo cambia cuando en la tranquila isla paradisiaca, Themyscica, accidentalmente cae el pilote Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), lo persiguen varios soldados y desatan una gran batalla. Hospedan a Steve por un corto tiempo, este debe regresar y la princesa Diana lo acompañará dado que no puede permitir que mueran niños, mujeres y seres indefensos, decide dejar su hogar e ir a la guerra. El personaje de Diana tiene un pequeño hilo conductor con la primer “Thor” vinculada con los dioses, tiene poderes y con lo mitológico. Ella es idealista, inocente, valiente, generosa, inteligente, optimista, está dispuesta a sacrificarse por los demás y sólo desea ayudar al prójimo. Diana Prince / Wonder Woman (actriz y modelo israelí Gal Gadot, “La liga de la Justicia: Parte 1”, “Mente implacable", “Rápidos y furiosos 5, 6 y 7”) tiene buena química con Steve Trevor (Chris Pine, “Sin nada que perder”, "Star Trek 1, 2,3 y 4") explotan buenas escenas juntos y separados. Una buena actuación de Lucy Davis, muy fresca como la secretaria. Está bien y con un buen maquillaje Elena Anaya (“La piel que habito”, “La cordillera”) como la doctora Maru. Como villano Danny Huston ("Big Eyes", “Contrarreloj”) su personaje Ludendorff. Una correcta actuación David Thewlis, "Harry Potter y el prisionero de Azkaban", "La teoría del todo" es Sir Patrick no se puede adelantar mucho de su personaje. El film que resulta muy entretenido de principio a fin tiene buenos toques de humor, es tierna, con buenos momentos dramáticos, bien épica, contiene mucha acción, momentos impactantes, luchas con acrobacias y buena utilización de la cámara lenta. Todo a cargo de la directora y escritora estadounidense Patricia Lea "Patty" Jenkins (Monster: Asesina en serie) que le pone cierto toque femenino. Impecable: la dirección y ambientación: a fines del Primera Guerra Mundial (1914-1918) y en el siglo XX, además de todos los rubros técnicos. Es una gran aventura para disfrutar. Tiene un buen mensaje. Hay un solo cameo. El final es demasiado rimbombante, exagerado y con algunos excesos. Este puede ser el comienzo de una saga.
Bajo la dirección de Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot se pone el traje de la Mujer Maravilla. Bruce Wayne le envía a Diana una foto antigua que descubrió de ella y una época que se sentía algo lejana de repente vuelve. Ése es el punto de partida para presentar a la Mujer Maravilla: su historia, de dónde proviene y hacia dónde quiere ir. Esta vez es la directora Patty Jenkins (Monster) la encargada de descomunal misión: traer al cine de manera exclusiva a esta heroína de DC para presentarla y ponerla en camino para la próxima película de La Liga de la Justicia, que reunirá a los superhéroes más emblemáticos de ese universo. Otra de las difíciles tareas la tenía Gal Gadot, mujer que ha sabido coronarse como reina de la belleza en su país de origen pero que a nivel actoral todavía no había tenido ninguna oportunidad valiosa para destacarse. Después de muchos nombres y especulaciones, fue ella la elegida para el papel que hizo famosa a Linda Carter. La película, luego de esa escena en el París presente, viaja al pasado para presentar a Diana desde pequeña en la isla paradisíaca donde vive junto a otras tantas amazonas, incluyendo su madre la Reina Hipólita. Diana es una princesa pero no quiere sentirse como tal y reniega de la sobreprotección que le brinda su madre, prefiriendo seguir a su tía Antíope (interpretada por Robin Wright) y entrenándose en la lucha. Cuando Steve (Chris Pine), un piloto y espía, se estrella en la isla, Diana decide irse con él para buscar y enfrentarse a Ares, el Dios de la Guerra. Pronto se ve inmersa en un mundo que le es nuevo y levanta la voz en una época en que a la mujer no se la escuchaba y debía aprender a callarse. Más allá de ser una película de superhéroes, el encanto de Mujer Maravilla no radica en las escenas de acción, donde se hace uso y abuso de la ralentización (demostrando que Zach Snyder no sólo está presente como productor, sino como clara influencia) en medio de montajes vertiginosos. Tampoco en la gama de sus villanos (Danny Huston, Elena Anaya y uno que no se puede revelar, que sí logra destacarse por sobre el resto). Diana ve el mundo desde un costado ingenuo e inocente que se complementa con la valentía y decisión con la que sobrelleva sus creencias, eso de defender a los que no pueden hacerlo. La relación que se va generando (y la química que se desprende entre ambos actores) con Steve, que es el primer hombre que ella ve en su vida, es creíble. Personajes secundarios coloridos: la secretaria a la que interpreta Lucy Davis, o uno de los soldados (Ewen Bremner) son otro aporte interesante. El film se aleja del tono oscuro y solemne de las últimas películas del universo DC, aunque en su último tercio Diana se encuentra con un mundo bastante menos amable del que esperaba. Las escenas de humor -de las que hay unas cuantas-, se perciben frescas, naturales, no forzadas como en Suicide Squad. Parte de ese mérito es del guionista Allan Heinberg, más asiduo a escribir para televisión, por eso quizás tampoco sorprende que, en cambio, en escenas que deberían ser puntos fuertes, como el clímax, éste pierda fuerza.
Vengo a romper un poco con las A del sitio nada más :P Mujer maravilla para mi fue una película más de super héroes. Tiene una buena forma de contar la historia de arranque del personaje, pero yo extraño la calidad de imagen que Nolan le puso a DC en los últimos años. Esa misma imagen que quizás le robó protagonismo al DC en si, pero quizás creo que falta que se balancee mejor. Mujer maravilla tiene escenas excelentes, pero por otro lado parece que las hubieran hecho para una novela de la tarde, con cuadros poco precisos, con efectos (los del comienzo fundamentalmente) muy pobres. Pero esas escenas de lucha a lo 300 me parecieron perfectas. ¿Me gustó? si... es un poco larga. Pero al día siguiente ya me había olvidado que la había visto.
Y finalmente, después de cuatro décadas, una nueva Mujer Maravilla llega al celuloide. Por qué transcurrió un lapso tan grande desde la versión televisiva y por qué es el último superhéroe icónico en alcanzar la pantalla es algo que podría explicar, quizá, cierto temor al fracaso. La Mujer Maravilla de Linda Carter fue tan carismática, tan llena de sex appeal, tan –en suma– perfecta como adaptación de cómic que resultaba casi imposible pensar en un reemplazo. La nueva Mujer Maravilla de Gal Gadot es algo completamente distinto; persuade por la inocencia, por la actitud y por su propio carisma. Sumemos un buen guion y, si bien la adaptación de los setenta no bajará del podio, podemos decir que hay una nueva franquicia exitosa, aguardando su propia mística. Como toda nueva saga, Mujer Maravilla arranca por el origen del mito, palabra que resulta apropiada para esta versión coescrita por Zack Snyder y dirigida por Patty Jenkins. El film muestra unas playas mediterráneas donde unas amazonas entrenan mientras una pequeña Diana ya sueña con sumarse a la lid. Las amazonas son, según esta versión, descendientes directas de Zeus, responsables de restablecer la armonía entre los hombres cada vez que Ares, el dios de la guerra, mete la cola. A medida que va creciendo, Diana es entrenada por su tía Antíope (Robin Wright), siempre bajo la supervisión de su madre Hipólita (Connie Nielsen), reina de las amazonas. Ya está crecida y personificada por Gal Gadot cuando, de la nada, un avión cae en el paradisíaco mar de las amazonas, y Diana acude a salvar al piloto. Este es Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), que no es teniente coronel sino un espía de los británicos durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, huyendo de la aviación alemana: el tiempo y el estatus son dos diferencias substanciales con la serie, que transcurría durante la Segunda Guerra. Convencida de que Ares juega para las filas de Von Bismarck, Diana viaja con Steve a Londres, donde su peculiar atuendo no pasará desapercibido. La atención al tiempo histórico es otro acierto de la película. “Esto es horrible”, se queja Diana mientras el barco de ambos arriba al puerto de la capital británica, en un Támesis roñoso, lleno de embarcaciones precarias y desechos industriales, algo bien distinto a la postal romántica que conocemos hoy día. Mientras ambos se ponen bajo las órdenes de Sir Patrick (David Thewlis), a la espera de un armisticio, en Alemania la terrible Doctora Meru (Elena Anaya) prepara bombas químicas para Ludendorff (Danny Huston), un jerarca que se resiste a firmar la paz con las potencias aliadas. Diana ve a Ares en Ludendorff, y el conflicto entre su mundo (fantástico) y el histórico (real) genera numerosas bromas efectivas, tanto por el guion como por la buena química actoral entre Pine y Gadot. Cuando una junta de lores le pregunta su nombre, ella dice ser “Diana, princesa de las amazonas”, pero Trevor la corta a mitad de camino y afirma: “Prince (princesa); su nombre es Diana Prince”. Un giro inteligente, que aprovecha el humor para introducir al personaje. Este tipo de situaciones se dan de manera recurrente, con las referencias, con el vestuario de Diana. Cuando finalmente la Mujer Maravilla se presenta de cuerpo entero es en el frente de batalla, bien avanzada la película; allí, da muestra de su poderío, pero el recurso de los efectos digitales mina un poco la frescura del film. Pese a algunos estampidos de más, Mujer Maravilla cumple los requisitos básicos de un clásico hollywoodense (buenos diálogos, acción, humor, el demorado beso); por eso, la demora está disculpada.
El Universo Extendido de DC (DC Extended Universe) continúa su desarrollo en la gran pantalla con la historia de origen de la Mujer Maravilla, luego de lo que fue su presentación en “Batman vs. Superman: El Origen de la Justicia” (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), en 2016. En la primera adaptación cinematográfica, en solitario, de uno de los personajes femeninos favoritos de la editorial, Gal Gadot nos confirmó que nació para este papel, y se nota que lo está disfrutando. La actriz israelí (conocida por interpretar a Giselle en cuatro entregas de la saga de “Rápido y Furioso”) encarna a la perfección a la princesa de las Amazonas creada por William Moulton Marston, que apareció por primera vez en la revista de historietas All Star Comics #8 (Diciembre de 1941). Por supuesto que el punto que conecta la anterior película con esta producción dirigida excelentemente por Patty Jenkins (“Monster”, la serie “The Killing”), es la famosa foto que Diana Prince quería recuperar luego de que Lex Luthor se la robara. Este es precisamente el puntapié inicial para que los espectadores, especialmente los fanáticos, seamos testigos de todo lo acontecido antes de ser la superheroína que todos conocemos. De niña, fue criada por su madre Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) en una resguardada isla paradisíaca, llamada Themyscira, y entrenada para ser una guerrera invencible, de la mano de su tía Antiope (Robin Wright). Pero todo cambia para ella cuando un piloto del ejército estadounidense, Steve Trevor (muy buen trabajo de Chris Pine), se estrella a orillas del lugar y le cuenta sobre un tremendo conflicto que se propaga en el mundo exterior, la Primera Guerra Mundial (en el comic, su historia transcurre durante la Segunda). Diana siente que debe dejar su hogar y acompañar a este hombre a la ciudad de Londres no sólo convencida de que puede acabar con el conflicto bélico sino también frenar con una peligrosa amenaza a cargo de los villanos de turno interpretados por la española Elena Anaya (Dra. Veneno) y Danny Huston (el General Ludendorff). Claro que, en el frente, la protagonista luchará codo a codo con Trevor y algunos conocidos de éste: Sameer (Saïd Taghmaoui), El Jefe (Eugene Brave Rock) y Charlie (Ewen Bremner). Fueron 75 años de espera para que ella tuviera su momento en el cine (en la tele lo tuvo de la mano de Lynda Carter) y todo se está dando para que se luzca como nunca, gracias al talento de Gadot. Jenkins logra un trabajo visual impecable (el toque Snyder es inconfundible con muchas tomas en cámara lenta) que se disfruta durante dos horas y veinte minutos, a pura acción y con pequeños, e infaltables, toques de humor. Ahora, resta esperar la continuación de esta franquicia en “La Liga de la Justicia”, el próximo mes de Noviembre.
El desguace del cine En muchas de las críticas a favor -sí, hay mayoría de textos y comentarios radiales que la defienden- sobre Mujer Maravilla se usa como un argumento que “es mejor que las otras del Universo DC”. Considero que eso puede poner contenta a la división del estudio de Hollywood que se encarga de esa línea de productos (¡vamos mejorando, gente!), pero no me convence mucho como crítico. Además, hay gran excitación por ese tipo de información que tiene más que ver con el periodismo o con la historia que estrictamente con la crítica de cine, o al menos con la valoración que conlleva: es la primera película de una superheroína dirigida por una mujer. Bueno, si uno no amplía el concepto de superheroína quizás ya había habido algunas antes, pero no vayamos por ese lado. Sí por el lado de que Mujer Maravilla es una película floja, eficiente para vender entradas pero no para divertir y convencer. Otra más, lamentablemente, de esta zona del mainstream que está desguazando el cine. La película es algo así como una chatarrería, un predio en el que han quedado partes de cosas tiradas, carrocerías oxidándose, pedidos de comités, aspiraciones comerciales, fórmulas vetustas y piruetas cool. Así, tenemos el travelling canchero primero celestial y luego más terrenal para llegar al Louvre. Viene la referencia a Wayne (Batman) y vamos a la primera parte con las Amazonas, al entrenamiento de Diana en la bella isla aislada del mundo. Esos cuarenta minutos iniciales, muy resumibles por alguien con poder de síntesis, o que no esté trabajando burocráticamente para llegar a las más de dos horas que parecen ser obligatorias para los tanques hoy en día, serán finalmente lo más amables de la película, los no tan pavotes, los que al menos proponen mayor movimiento y golpes y flechas y piruetas de acción. Y los que muestran a dos actrices con la prestancia suficiente como para reducir el daño de esas frases envaradas y ridículas que estas películas se permiten cada vez con mayor frecuencia. Robin Wright y Connie Nielsen son extraordinariamente fotogénicas y actrices experimentadas, y luego de la isla su presencia se extraña. Tal vez, por esta cuestión de la mega producción con grandes nombres, Nielsen y Wright sean dos de los motivos de la extensión de la secuencia de crecimiento y entrenamiento: “tenemos las grandes actrices, hagamos una secuencia muy larga”. Mientras tanto, la comparsa actoral dice sus líneas con todo el envaramiento y la ridiculez que prometen en el papel esas palabras que tienen que decir. En el entrenamiento hay -más allá de los textos- muchas mujeres peleando, con una plasticidad voladora notable y, si uno quiere pensar con benevolencia, quizás ese motivo sea uno de los que hacen durar tanto ese momento resumible. Luego de la llegada del hombre, de los hombres, la película se convierte con mayor decisión en un apilamiento de chatarra, en un montón de secuencias inanes, llenas de lugares comunes (vulgares), simplistas y que adormecen la visión. La audición se adormece porque la musicalización es del estilo “si quisieras cerrar los ojos igual entenderías lo que pasa en cada escena”. La música, cada vez en mayor medida en casi todos los tanques, es una ametralladora de refuerzos de sentido. Todo lo que vemos está claro, pero se vuelve a decir en los diálogos mientras se lo vuelve a decir con una orquesta. En este contexto vemos a Chris Pine en el típico momento en el que se tapa los genitales, a Gal Gadot (alta) probándose muchos vestidos, a David Thewlis hacer de inglés de época once again, a los ojos y las expresiones, dignos de teatro de revista argentino, de Saïd Taghmaoui ante la Wonder Woman. Tenemos la secuencia clave en la guerra, en la que la Mujer Maravilla ya no aguanta la injusticia y revienta todo y libera a un pueblo. Tan poderosa es la chica que mucho suspenso no parece haber, porque es a todas luces invencible. Sobre el final se agregan algunos enfrentamientos que la ponen más a prueba, el último de los cuales es de un nivel de inoperancia en términos narrativos y visuales que avergüenza a nuestros ojos. Es como si el entrañable enfrentamiento entre Price y Karloff de El cuervo de Corman se hiciera sin otros elementos que solemnidad y molicie para la puesta en escena. Una secuencia que desnuda la incapacidad para interesar, conmover, emocionar: eso que antes nos gustaba de las películas de aventuras (comparar con otras películas con lazos, o látigos, como las Indiana Jones) ahora ha quedado vacío, y esa cáscara se usa para vender novedades sociológicas. También en modo chatarra, de revoleo de cualquier sobrante, está el diálogo en el que Chris Pine que le dice a Diana algo así como “¿che, y cómo es que hablás mi idioma (inglés)?” y ella responde algo así como: “porque hablo cientos de idiomas”. Un diálogo que podría no estar -ya sabemos que ella sabe todo es maravillosa, y el espía interpretado por Pine lo sabrá varias veces- pero que más tarde nos hará pensar en porqué los alemanes hablan un inglés con acento correoso en lugar de dejarse de joder y hablar su lengua. La película es tan torpe, tan poco criteriosa con la chatarra que mueve de un lado para otro, que hasta ofrece esta denuncia dentro de sí misma, y así lastima para su uso individual una convención que se ha usado durante décadas. Y, para terminar, en la resolución de la batalla final, el motivo en el cual encuentra Diana la fuerza extra que le pidió su entrenadora (Wright) al principio, nos refuerza la idea de que Frozen fue la verdadera película feminista del mainstream de los últimos años.
Destino de superheroína Después de tres películas decididamente fallidas como "El hombre de acero", "Batman vs. Superman" y "Escuadrón suicida", el llamado "Universo extendido de DC Cómics" consigue levantar un poco la puntería con "Mujer Maravilla". La directora Patty Jenkins ("Monster") se aleja de la solemnidad depresiva post-Nolan y apuesta por una versión más clásica y fiel al origen del cómic. Otro punto de diferenciación (no menor) es el aire fresco que supone la mirada femenina de una superheroína emblemática, en medio de tanta testosterona en el género de los superhéroes. La película rescata el origen mitológico de la Mujer Maravilla, que comienza siendo la princesa Diana, una niña educada como guerrera en una isla de la Antigua Grecia habitada sólo por amazonas. Este lugar escondido del resto de la humanidad cambia cuando el soldado Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) naufraga en las orillas de la isla. Sería muy largo detenerse en la historia, pero digamos que por —(oh) el inevitable camino del héroe— Diana termina luchando junto a Trevor en la Primera Guerra Mundial. Aunque se acerca más a una modelo que a una verdadera actriz, Gadot se ajusta al personaje con convicción. Las batallas están vistosamente coreografiadas y también hay algunos toques de humor (aunque no todos son efectivos). Sobre el final la película decae porque sus villanos son endebles, y demás está decir que sus 140 minutos son excesivos.
Mucho mejor que las últimas películas del universo DC Comics (“Batman Vs. Superman” y “Escuadrón Suicida”), esta aparición de la “Mujer Maravilla” en el cine tiene una historia mucho más interesante que el filme en sí mismo (fue un proyecto de años de Joss Whedon, lo desactivaron porque “nadie vería a una superheroína”, Whedon hizo Los Vengadores –de la competencia– con una superheroína, DC reactivó la iniciativa). Lo que no implique que sea malo: durante gran parte de su duración la película va al punto, es poco derivativa y tiene belleza gráfica (las secuencias de las Amazonas son, por lejos, lo más bello de la película, así como las intervenciones de acción del personaje central). Hay momentos de humor, hay momentos donde la realizadora Patty Jenkins inyecta comentarios sociales y políticamente correctos, y hay una resolución si no narrativamente, sí al menos moralmente confusa, que no ambigua. Ahora bien: hay mucho –casi demasiado– en las resoluciones del guión que se parecen a otro filme sobre superhéroe perdido en una guerra del pasado, la bellísima “Capitán América-El primer vengador”. Y si se sale a flote de ese déjà-vu, es porque Gal Gadot crea al personaje. Lo hace bello, inocente, fuerte, triste (jamás perverso, jamás cínico) cuando debe ser cada una de esas cosas. Y Chris Pine es un extraordinario partenaire en el juego. Un film de corte clásico y lindo de ver aún cuando no termina de ser memorable.
La protagonista de Mujer Maravilla, Gal Gadot, demuestra en este filme infantil que un superhéroe no se construye con efectos especiales, sino con carisma. DC Comics, bajo la sombra de Marvel, insiste en armar su red de películas. Esta ambición, sin embargo, acaba dañando la emancipación de los relatos, y Mujer Maravilla es un ejemplo acabado. Dos líneas estéticas incompatibles confluyen aquí: los rasgos generales de las películas de DC Comics, tomando como referencia el realismo plástico que patentó Zack Snyder en El Hombre de Acero, y las intenciones lúdicas de Patty Jenkins, directora de esta cinta en particular. A nivel macroscópico, Mujer Maravilla regresa a esa imagen contrastada y granulosa típica de Snyder. También están los ralentís en medio de la acción, la música wagneriana y la tintura solemne. No obstante, a nivel microscópico, Mujer Maravilla oxigena ese universo gravoso con un humor encantador. Allí está el rasgo más atractivo del filme: su perfume juguetón y aniñado, una tontería exenta de culpa junto a una inverosimilitud agraciada. Para Jenkins es imposible darle un corte “realista” a la historia de esta amazona traída al mundo por el mismo Zeus para frenar a Ares; su abordaje quiere ser frívolo y descontracturado, pero allí está la biblia de DC Comics exigiendo que se obedezca la ley del tejido orgánico, en otras palabras, que las películas se homologuen para formar parte de una gran película genérica y oscura. Mujer Maravilla se debate en este choque de intereses. Cada tanto triunfa el bien, aunque no siempre. La mejor aliada de Jenkins para darle lozanía al filme será Gal Gadot encarnando a la princesa Diana: hay en esta mujer una resonancia virgen sin precedentes. Su forma de mirar y de gesticular tienen una espontaneidad única, una pureza irrefutable. Gracias al aura de Gadot, Mujer Maravilla emite destellos entre la niebla. El relato empieza con el presente de Batman vs. Superman y esa enigmática foto vintage que muestra a Diana posando con soldados de la primera guerra. La película se convierte en un gran flashback sobre los orígenes de la amazona extraterrestre y su compromiso de proteger a la humanidad. Diana descubriendo el mundo es lo mejor que tiene DC Comics hasta la fecha. Cuando la heroína arriba a Inglaterra, el relato adquiere una adorable cadencia cómica. La ingenuidad de Diana es expuesta por su directora, creando una farsa entre un sentido común idealista y la histórica corrupción de los hombres. Esta alegoría, al materializarse en el villano, desmorona su picardía y se convierte en una épica obscena. Los intereses contrapuestos entre DC Comics y Jenkins llegan al límite: mientras más bizarra se torna la película, más grandilocuencia le imprimen. Así, la originalidad de Mujer Maravilla acaba extraviándose en aras de formar parte de un universo a plazo fijo.
Wonder Woman tenía mucho que demostrar. No sólo por ser venir a tratar de limpiar un poco el sabor amargo que dejaron las últimas películas de este nuevo universo cinematográfico expandido de DC Comics y Warner Bros. Pictures (luego de las, cuanto menos, polémicas Batman v Superman y Suicide Squad), sino también por ser la primera película de superhéroes en la historia protagonizada por una mujer. Así es: por más inaudito que suene, Wonder Woman, un personaje que tiene casi 76 años (fue creada por William Moulton Marston en 1941) y que sin lugar a dudas es un ícono mundial, jamás había sido trasladada a la pantalla grande. De hecho, su última aparición live-action fue hace casi 38 años, cuando terminó la recordada serie televisiva protagonizada por Lynda Carter. Como verán, el peso que tenían sobre sus hombros, y de manera casi injusta, Gal Gadot y la directora Patty Jenkins era demasiado. Wonder Woman es una "historia de origen", hecha y derecha. Zack Snyder (por más que le pese a algunos, la historia es una semilla suya) y Allan Heinberg (productor y guionista de series como The O.C., Grey's Anatomy y Sex and the City, que además tiene experiencia escribiendo al personaje en los cómics) nos muestran a Diana desde su infancia como una niña impetuosa y deseosa de aprender el arte del combate. Y no es para menos: Diana es una amazona, mítica raza de mujeres creadas por el mismísimo dios Zeus para ayudar al hombre a hallar su camino y derrotar de una vez por todas a Ares, el dios de la guerra. Las amazonas, lideradas por la Reina Hipólita (Connie Nielsen) y comandadas por la General Antíope (Robin Wright) viven en la isla de Temiscira, aisladas por completo del resto del mundo. A pesar de que al principio Hipólita se niega a que Diana sea entrenada, por motivos que mantiene en secreto, la joven consigue su aprobación y crece decidida a ser la mejor guerrera de todo Punta del Este. No pasará mucho tiempo hasta que eso sea puesto a prueba cuando Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), un piloto y espía británico, colisiona con su avión en las aguas cercanas a la isla. Diana lo rescata y lo lleva a la costa (lucky guy!), pero Steve estaba siendo perseguido por el ejército alemán tras haberles robado sus maléficos planes (!). Lo mítico y lo real colisionan en un impresionante enfrentamiento entre amazonas con arco y flecha y alemanes con armas de fuego, con bajas en ambos bandos por supuesto. Steve entonces es "interrogado" (lazo de la verdad mediante) y confiesa que robó el diario de la Dra. Maru, alias "Dr. Poison" (la española Elena Anaya), quien, bajo la supervisión del General Ludendorff (Danny Huston interpretando a una figura histórica real del ejército alemán), está a punto de crear un gas letal que provocará millones de muertes inocentes. Con toda esta nueva información encima, y totalmente segura de que este enfrentamiento bélico debe ser provocado por Ares (porque, claro, los humanos seríamos incapaces de pelearnos entre nosotros), Diana decide birlarse el kit completo de batalla (espada legendaria anti-dioses, escudo y armadura sexy pero-no-tanto) y partir junto a Steve a Europa, para acabar con Ares y la guerra de manera definitiva. En lo que resulta una acertada decisión, la trama comienza sin mayores vueltas ni conexiones al resto del universo DC; tampoco hay molestos flashbacks intermitentes, con la historia "yendo y viniendo" constantemente. A los pocos minutos de iniciada la película, Diana Prince comienza a recordar su infancia y su pasado en Temiscira, y hasta que no termina su primera aventura como superheroína en la civilización occidental, no deja de recordarlo. Esta continuidad en el desarrollo, que a primera vista puede parecer simplona, permite que la narración sea fluida y sin cambios innecesarios de ritmo. El cambio se manifiesta más bien desde lo visual: los paisajes paradisíacos de Temiscira, con sus playas de arena blanca y sol radiante, se ven reemplazados por la gris y sucia Londres industrializada. El abrupto contraste en la paleta de colores entre un escenario y otro no es azaroso: todo sirve para reforzar el concepto de que... chicos, ¡Diana es un pez fuera del agua! La química entre ambos protagonistas es perfecta. Cada vez que Diana y Steve están juntos en pantalla, ya sea intercambiando miradas cargadas de tensión sexual o con la amazona tratando de comprender el concepto del matrimonio, las reacciones de ambos resultan totalmente creíbles; como espectador, querés verlos juntos todo el tiempo posible. Chris Pine no solo le brinda a Steve Trevor sus ojos claros de héroe de acción, sino que también le aporta una cuota de respetuosa picardía y escepticismo a lo que experimentó en Temiscira: a pesar de que le cuesta creer todo lo que le cuenta Diana, Steve jamás la ningunea ni se burla de ella. De hecho, tampoco lo hace su secretaria, Etta Candy (una genial Lucy Davis que se roba cada escena en la que participa). Ya lo mencioné en su momento en la review de Batman v Superman, cuando destacaba a Gal Gadot en su breve participación. Gadot nos tapó la boca a todos, y me incluyo entre los que criticaron la elección de la actriz israelí cuando se conoció la noticia hace unos años. Su Diana Prince/Wonder Woman es tan pero tan encantadora y fascinante que sinceramente va a ser difícil visualizar al personaje con otro rostro que no sea el suyo a partir de ahora. Hay una dulzura y una bondad en cada mirada y cada sonrisa de la actriz que resulta apasionante contemplarla; cada vez que Gadot sonríe, se ilumina la pantalla. A diferencia del Capitán América de Marvel Studios (paralelismo que más de uno va a pretender hacer), Wonder Woman no viene de una época diferente: viene de una sociedad totalmente distinta, viene de vivir en una burbuja. Como resultado, nos encontramos ante un personaje con una ingenuidad y una inocencia tan cautivantes como novedosas en el género. Diana es capaz de sorprenderse al probar por primera vez un helado de la misma manera que al ver un bebé en la calle o ante la falta de decisión de los líderes militares. Pero, y esto es importantísimo en la construcción del personaje y en el lugar que se la da como mujer, esa ingenuidad jamás la representa como una tonta, sino que se utiliza para cuestionar nuestras (por momentos arcaicas) costumbres e ideologías en una sociedad supuestamente moderna y civilizada. Las escenas de humor jamás ridiculizan a Diana; todo lo contrario, nos ridiculizan a nosotros (y merecidamente). Detrás de las cámaras, Patty Jenkins no tendrá la muñeca ni la destreza visual para las escenas de acción que sí tiene Snyder (algo que no le podemos objetar al polémico Zack), pero aún así logra distinguirlas de las vistas previamente en el DCEU: Wonder Woman tiene su propio estilo de pelea al ir alternando ataque/combate/lazo/embestida, etc. El look de la película también logra diferenciarse, remitiendo sólo por momentos al "filtro Snyder". Para ser recién su segundo largometraje (luego de Monster, en 2003, film por el cual Charlize Theron se llevó un Oscar), la Jenkins sale posicionada de manera impecable. Y tengan en cuenta esto: es la primera directora en la historia de Hollywood responsable de una superproducción de 150 millones de dólares. Go, girl! Pero nada ni nadie es perfecto, y esta no es la excepción. Algunos elementos de la trama (que no puedo detallar porque ¡spoilers!) pasan sin mucha explicación, mientras que "la revelación" no tiene mayor resonancia dramática porque no hay con quién compartirla. Pero quizás lo más flojo es el combate final: en parte porque la presencia de Ares termina siendo algo casi anecdótico (la historia deja en claro que el verdadero enemigo es la guerra en sí misma), y en parte porque la escena de Diana en "No Man's Land" es tan pero tan contundente, te resuena tanto a nivel emotivo en las entrañas (ustedes saben a qué me refiero), que la pelea final repleta de CGI se queda a mitad de camino. Pero... ¡hey, son superhéroes! Si no pelearan al final nos estaríamos quejando del anti-clímax, porque somos así de inconformistas y quejosos. Sin lugar a dudas, Wonder Woman se convertirá en un ejemplo para el público femenino y hasta para las cineastas. Para millones de fans, el personaje retomará su lugar como quizás el mayor ícono femenino de la cultura pop. Y está perfecto, porque se lo ganó merecidamente durante décadas. Pero por suerte la película trasciende todo eso, careciendo de cualquier speech anti-patriarcal. Porque es tan buena que no lo necesita. El marco histórico-social de la primera Guerra Mundial permite que la postura políticamente feminista del film (que por supuesto la tiene) sea mucho más sutil, que esté oculta a simple vista en los detalles: sí, Diana usa una pollera para luchar, pero dista muchísimo de la malla calada que vistió durante décadas en los cómics; los militares la tratan despectivamente cuando irrumpe en el concejo de guerra británico, pero aún así les demuestra ser más culta y sensible que todos ellos juntos; y ni hablar del respeto con el que la trata Steve, aún cuando descree de todo ese cuento de asesinar a Ares para acabar con la guerra. El momento en el que Diana, tras ver de cerca y con sus propios ojos la cruda realidad de la guerra y sus consecuencias en el campo de batalla, decide asumir de lleno su rol es sumamente emblemático. Cuando la ves saliendo de esa trinchera, decidida a tomar acción en la batalla, rechazando las balas de los alemanes con sus brazaletes, y comienza a correr... se te pone la piel de gallina. Más de uno/a va a lagrimear (sé que yo estuve cerca pero logré contenerme porque tengo barba). No obstante, hay otro momento en particular, muy breve, que representa a la perfección al personaje. Cuando uno de los miembros de este improvisado escuadrón armado por Steve cree que quizás sea mejor que se retire del combate (lo llevaron para cumplir una tarea y no pudo hacerlo), Diana, con una leve sonrisa y una mirada compasiva, casi maternal, le responde "Si tú te vas, ¿quién nos va a cantar?". Son esos gestos desinteresados, sinceros, y repletos de amor los que engrandecen al personaje y la convierten en verdadera merecedora del rótulo de héroe. Sí, mucho más que cierto Hombre de Acero y cierto Caballero Oscuro. VEREDICTO: 8.5 - MÁS WONDER WOMAN POR FAVOR Como habrán notado, esta review carece de epítetos ultra-feministas que suenan hermosos pero que, en definitiva, no aportan mucho a la reseña. Mujer Maravilla es una gran película simplemente porque es una gran película, porque se vale de sus propios medios para serlo: un personaje formidable, una interpretación acertadísima de Gal Gadot, una pareja protagonista con una dinámica perfecta, las dosis exactas de humor/acción y, principalmente, muchísimo corazón y sentimiento. Punto. Que sea la primera superheroína en la historia del cine en protagonizar su propio film es la reluciente cereza de una torta imperdible.
Amazonas en la Tierra La mujer maravilla abusa de la cámara lenta y de la animación, pero la sencillez y el atractivo de los personajes le juegan a favor. A esta altura del partido, una película de superhéroes que vuelva a la vieja y querida propuesta de contar una historia sencilla, con villanos temibles y héroes queribles, es bienvenida. La mujer maravilla, cuarta entrega del Universo Extendido de DC, es por lejos la mejor de su grupo y resulta mejor también que varias de su competidor más mimado por los fans, Marvel. Es cierto, existiendo películas de superhéroes como Logan o Deadpool, parece que estuviéramos pidiéndole demasiado poco a La mujer maravilla. Pero al lado de Batman v Superman: El origen de la justicia o Guardianes de la galaxia Vol. 2, se valora una película que funciona por sí sola, que tiene humor, que no agobia con referencias (aunque las tenga). También es cierto que hay un abuso de la cámara lenta y de la animación. En general, uno imagina que la animación se usa porque es más barata y más sencilla, pero que en general se busca ocultarla, imitar a la realidad lo mejor posible. Acá pareciera que buscaran el artificio, que ignoraran las reglas de la física. O quizás, sencillamente, la animación es horrible. Pero hay una historia, hay personajes y tanto Gal Gadot como Chris Pine están encantadores. Estamos en algún momento de la década de 1910, durante la Primera Guerra Mundial. Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) reina entre las Amazonas, en la isla de Themyscira, con la ayuda de su hermana, la temible guerrera Antiope (Robin Wright). Un día, su hija Diana (Gadot) ve cómo un avión cae en el mar y su piloto está por morir ahogado. El piloto es Steve Trevor (Pine), un espía inglés que está huyendo de los alemanes. Después de un combate entre las Amazonas y los alemanes, que vienen persiguiendo a Trevor, Diana decide ir con él al mundo de los hombres para detener la guerra, que para ella está provocada por Ares, aunque Trevor le explica que las cosas son más complicadas. Un arma letal, fabricada por la doctora Maru (Elena Anaya, en una especie de versión de Vera Cruz, su personaje almodovariano de La piel que habito) bajo las órdenes del general Erich Ludendorff (Danny Huston), será el objeto a destruir por Diana, Trevor y sus amigos. Obviamente el guión se aprovecha, y muy bien, de la condición femenina de la heroína. En una época en la que el modo de representación de las minorías está bajo la lupa, y se llegó a criticar a Joss Whedon por ciertos diálogos de Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) en Avengers: Era de Ultrón, la primera película de esta época protagonizada por una mujer tenía que estar a la altura. Recordemos, también, el fracaso estrepitoso de Gatúbela, con Halle Berry, que llevó a muchos a pensar que al público no le interesaban las heroínas mujeres. La película era simplemente mala. Acá Diana es fuerte, hace chistes con la masculinidad de Trevor y se hace alusión a la discriminación que sufrían las mujeres en aquella época, un espejo aumentado de esta. Estos detalles están bien, le agregan picante, y parecen naturales, no están puestos para cumplir con las exigencias de corrección política de nadie (o no parece que lo estén). Quizás haya sumado la presencia de Patty Jenkins en la dirección, que había dirigido hace varios años Monster: Asesina en serie, la historia de Aileen Wuornos, la prostituta que se transformó en asesina, y que le dio el Oscar a Charlize Theron. Claramente le dieron el material a alguien con la sensibilidad necesaria. Las historias de superhéroes, sobre todo las que cuentan sus orígenes, tienen la fortaleza de los mitos remotos y primitivos. En general, no se necesita demasiado para contar esas historias y que resulten atractivas, alcanza con no arruinarlas. Esta vez, los muchachos de DC cumplieron.
La mujer Maravilla fue presentada por DC, en este nuevo universo que está intentado crear, en Batman Vs Superman. Apareció unos minutos, nadie sabía de donde salió pero ayudo a nuestros queridos ene/amigos en la lucha contra el mal. En esta película en solitario nos cuentan el origen de Diane. Nos presentan a las amazonas, pasamos por la segunda guerra mundial y la historia prosigue. Le cuesta arrancar a la película, parece tener el burro de arranque en mal estado durante gran parte de los 141 minutos que dura el film. Si bien es necesario contar el origen y la historia de tan poderoso e importante personaje en el universo DC, se le va la mano con la lentitud a la película. Levanta muchísimo con las escenas de acción/pelea que hay durante el film. Efectos especiales de alto nivel, un CGI que apenas se nota por momentos. Momentos cómicos para esos críticos que pedían chistes en DC, acá las burlan son para la inocencia de WW ante un mundo nuevo, que están bastante acertados. Destacable es la actuación de Gal Gadot, con esa voz que le impuso a este personaje y ese porte singular que solo una diosa griega puede tener. La reivindicación femenina he leído en varias críticas, destacando esto, y es una lástima que haya que destacarlo. Pero es cierto, acá vemos a una superheroína hecha y derecha, luchando por lo que es justo, lo que le han enseñado de pequeña, sin entender que los humanos no son todos buenos, exponiendo su lado más humano y su psiquis expuesta ante nosotros. El poder de las mujeres queda expuesto y debería estarlo por mucho tiempo, pero probablemente vuelva a pasar desapercibida en la próxima película que hace en conjunto con el resto de los héroes de DC. Mi recomendación: Para los amigos de DC vayan a verla, comienza a tomar forma el universo nuevo. Mujeres vayan a ver cómo deberían estar en la realidad, en el poder.
Grata sorpresa nos entrega Patty Jenkins con el film de una de las heroínas más icónicas de la historia del comic, tv y de ahora en más, del cine. Wonder Woman es una película que ubica al nuevo universo cinematográfico de DC nuevamente en el mapa Gal Gadot (franquicia Fast & Furious, triple 9) nos viene deslumbrando con su belleza y curriculum desde hace algunos años - además de modelo tiene 2 años de servicio en la fuerza de defensa Israelí - , pero en lo actoral es (o mejor era) sólo una cara bonita. Pero su destino comienza a cambiar a partir de Batman vs Superman: El Origen de la Justicia (2016). Gal en Batman vs. Superman se llevó todas las miradas- pese a que la película cosechó sólo mediocres opiniones- y despejó toda duda sobre su integridad como actriz para con el rol de Mujer Maravilla; simplemente la rompió, Un año más tarde llega el spin off de Diana y totalmente comandada por ella. El resultado: un nuevo comienzo para La liga de la Justicia. Como presentación a la vida de "Diana Prince" la película nos sitúa en Themysciram hogar de las amazonas. Themysciram es un paraíso aislado del mundo gracias a una magia mitológica. Durante todo el tiempo en que la película explica los orígenes de la vida y mitología de Wonder Woman, el film logra incluir una empatía hacia los personajes secundarios; La reina Hipólita (Connie Nielsen), su hermana Antíope (Robin Wright), encargada del entrenamiento secreto de su hija Diana, influyen al futuro del comportamiento heroico e inquebrantable de Diana. En los primeros minutos vemos una Diana inexperta con hambre de gloria y triunfo que va más allá de la costumbres de su pueblo. A medida que pasan los años, Diana se olvida de sus años de aprendiz y pasa a convertirse en una verdadera arma de destrucción masiva. A pesar de todo esto "su destino" es desconocido. Esa paz y tranquilidad de este mundo de guerreras se ve comprometido gracias a la llegada de un extraño llamado Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) un espía norteamericano. El personaje de Pine pone un punto de quiebre a las ideas y valores de Diana: gracias al accidentado encuentro con Steve, Diana por fin sale de su burbuja y desde ese momento tenemos a una Mujer Maravilla desencadenada. Wonder Woman es un lujo fotográfico gracias el trabajo de Matthew Jensen (Game of Thrones, Chronicle). Jensen muestra los horrores de la guerra de paraísos desolados y en contraparte, un edén repleto de vida en ese paraíso llamado Themysciram. La fotografía es clave en este proyecto ya que el peso de eventos históricos pasados son una parte fundamental de la historia de la Mujer Maravilla. En cuanto al guión, Wonder Woman ofrece personajes principales y secundarios que interesan, no sólo por simpatía sino por el motivo de la fuerza que los mueve hacia sus decisiones. Allan Heinberg (Grey's Anatomy, The O.C.) da un buen ejemplo con la presentación y el desarrollo de la historia pero a la hora de cerrar el círculo del film deja que el cliché se adueñe de la situación final. Los 25 últimos minutos se sienten débiles y sucios, la sensación de lo "ya visto" se adivina en ese último tramo del film y ese villano (Ares para ser preciso) que actúa como el tiburón de Jaws a lo largo y alto del film, termina siendo una mera copia de lo frecuente. El film es muy bueno pero al cumplir sus objetivos se adentra hacia el terreno de lo fácil con su final "a la carta". Pero todo esto, más allá del gran elenco y trabajo del equipo técnico, es pura y exclusivamente el show de Gal. Gadot en piel de Mujer Maravilla es un ejemplo perfecto de excelente selección de casting. Lynda Carter en su momento fue (aún retirada del rol) Wonder Woman, pero en lo que va del tiempo, en "nuestros" tiempos Gadot se encargó de callar a mucha gente - me incluyo - e hizo ese rol absolutamente suyo, Gadot es sin duda nuestra Wonder Woman. No estamos hablando de una próxima Kathryn Bigelow, pero el trabajo de Patty Jenkins en este proyecto da nuevos aires y genera una nueva potencia en trabajo de dirección femenina. En su Bio Jenkins posee Monster, ese glorioso film protagonizado por Charlize Theron el cual le valió un Oscar por mejor actriz pero gracias a Wonder Woman puede sumar sin lugar a duda un sólido y poderoso film, que engancha a la audiencia y consigue esperanzas en lugares que, tras el fracaso no había. Wonder Woman es un éxito y merece serlo.
Piña, patada, emoción, sonrisas. Una protagonista que rebosa de personalidad e ideales. Qué glorioso toparse con un comic filmado como corresponde. Es posible que Mujer Maravilla no esté a la estatura del Superman de Richard Donner o de los filmes de Batman de Christopher Nolan & Tim Burton pero, rayos, es por lejos lo mejor que ha ofrecido la DC en muchísimo tiempo. La gracia del filme reside en las mujeres responsables del mismo. Gal Gadot, bella, carismática y rabiosa; Patty Jenkins, directora de talento olvidada por Hollywood y rescatada en el momento justo. Claro, hoy todos alaban a la Jenkins - la gran salvadora del Universo Cinemático DC en el momento en que se asomaba al abismo -, pero nadie se acuerda que, hasta hace dos días, no le ofrecía trabajo ni el loro. La Jenkins tuvo que remar durante 14 años - luego de su sensacional Monster (2003) - para que alguien le diera la oportunidad de rodar otra película. En el medio, claro, tuvo que comer y pagar el alquiler, y una cineasta de su calibre terminó condenada a rodar toneladas de enlatados televisivos para ganarse el sustento. Una prueba cabal, escalofriante e indignante, de la mentalidad machista imperante en las altas cúpulas de los estudios de Hollywood. Pero Wonder Woman es su regreso con toda la furia y, salvo una injusticia monumental, es imprescindible que la Jenkins regrese a las grandes ligas. Sorteándose toda la oscuridad de Burton y Nolan (y el fallido dramatismo de Snyder), la Jenkins ha regresado a la fuente primigenia que es el Superman de Richard Donner de 1978. ¿Por qué admiramos a un héroe?. He aquí la respuesta, simple e inteligente: porque es interesante, idealista, carismático y defiende al débil aún cuando tenga todas las bazas en su contra. Diana de Themyscira es una defensora a ultranza de la paz y de la vida humana, una extranjera que ve con curiosidad y humor las costumbres humanas, y que no duda en saltar frente a las balas a la hora de defender a un inocente. Y cuando semejante personaje entra en acción - ya convertida en una fuerza de la naturaleza, imparable, decidida -, resulta épico. La sensacional escena en donde la Gadot se cansa de la guerra de trincheras - la cual ha llevado la muerte y la inanición a los refugiados que están en su territorio - y salta a la "tierra de nadie" para pulverizar las lineas germanas es sencillamente gloriosa. Es la simpleza del razonamiento lineal: si los heridos están aquí y la comida y las medicinas están allá, ¿por qué no sacar los obstáculos - léase, miles de soldados germanos - y tomarlos directamente?. No es efectismo hueco sino heroísmo admirable al mejor estilo Christopher Reeve, con la diferencia de que la Gadot destila ferocidad. Al mejor estilo Hulk, la mina arremete y tira abajo edificios enteros con una convicción admirable. Una increible elección de casting para un increíble personaje. Ciertamente hay muchas decisiones inspiradas en Wonder Woman; una de ellas es setear la acción en la inusual época de la Primera Guerra Mundial - algo nunca visto siquiera en el comic -. Como el Capitán América, la Mujer Maravilla es una heroina patriótica de la Segunda Guerra Mundial - nacida de la inspiración de William Moulton Marston en 1941 -, una defensora de los valores americanos que pretende derrotar a los villanos con la justicia, la paz, el amor y la verdad. Claro, todo esto suena a una cursilería terrible pero era algo que Moulton Marston estaba convencido hasta la médula - su pensamiento y su vida es algo digno de una película de por sí mismo -, y lo cual convertía a Wonder Woman en un comic apetecible para el público femenino. Con las ventas en alza de manera sostenida, la Mujer Maravilla pronto se convirtió en un ícono de la DC, ubicándose al lado de Batman y Superman como uno de los personajes mas populares de la editorial. Pero, al igual que la tortuosa carrera artística de Patty Jenkins, la calidad y popularidad de Wonder Woman no le alcanzaron como para que alguien le diera un voto de confianza y produjera una adaptación del personaje fuera del mundo del comic sino hasta décadas después de su creación. El primero que se animó fue William Dozier en un fallido piloto de TV en donde la heroína era tomada para la broma - claro, Dozier quería repetir la fórmula del megaéxito que había obtenido con Batman (1966) -. Luego vino un rarísimo telefilme en 1974, en donde la amazona era una especie de figura pública - nada de identidades ocultas - que trabajaba para el gobierno cazando espias. Entre el bizarro vestido de Cathy Lee Crosby y el inusual manoseo de la mitología del personaje, lo cierto es que tampoco prosperó. En el 2011 cocinaron otro engendro con Adrianne Palicki, la cual funcionaba como una especie de agente corporativa (Themyscira era una empresa que la patrocinaba!!) que trabajaba para el gobierno. De todos estos experimentos el único que funcionó - y aún resulta memorable - fue la serie con Linda Carter de 1975 - 1979, tremendamente respetuosa de la esencia del personaje y con la mezcla justa de aventuras y humor camp. Ahora la princesa amazona ha obtenido la representación digna que tanto le fue demorada. No es un filme equilibrado - las piruetas físicas de las amazonas resultan demasiado exageradas (algo así como un ejército de Legolas pasadas de cafeina); el climax termina cediendo a las presiones de Snyder para meter una orgía de efectos especiales; el villano es blando y olvidable - pero, durante el 90% del viaje, funciona de maravillas. Ya sea la quimica entre la Gadot y Chris Pine - reducido a segundo banana, y saliendo con dignidad del triste rol de "objeto romántico masculino" -, las peripecias de la amazona en el mundo moderno, y el descubrimiento de los absurdos de la supuesta civilización humana, la cual esconde mas barbarie y miseria de lo que uno piensa. En sí, Wonder Woman funciona como una mezcla de Thor y Capitán América pasada de estrógenos. El tono vintage se agradece, el desarrollo lento y maduro también. Es mas que probable que la película seduzca hasta los fans mas acérrimos de la Marvel, ya que tiene todos los condimentos que hacen funcionar tan bien a los productos del estudio del logo rojo. Quizás algunos secundarios no están bien explotados - como la doctora Veneno o el trio de torpes aventureros que acompaña a los héroes - pero otros son muy satisfactorios, sea el feroz cameo de Robin Wright o la dignidad que aporta una sorprendentemente efectiva Connie Nielsen. Es una lástima que, por una imperativa de marketing, deseen desembarcar a la Mujer Maravilla en la época presente en los proximos capítulos de la saga. El escenario de la Primera Guerra Mundial es tan inusual como fascinante, pero los ejecutivos del estudio deben creer que nadie quiere ver dramas de época. Salvo detalles aqui y allá Mujer Maravilla es una fantástica película, un deleite para el fan comiquero que ve - al fin - una adaptación respetuosa de uno de los personajes mas importantes del panteón DC... un logro que, espero, inspire al resto de los directores reclutados por DC / Warner Brothers para que obtengan versiones tan logradas, fieles y emocionantes de sus personajes como la que Patty Jenkins ha logrado materializar aquí.
La sorpresa más maravillosa "Wonder Woman" llegó con mucho escepticismo entre la crítica y la percepción del público en general, pero la verdad es que la está rompiendo y cosechando elogios por todas partes del mundo, incluso entre miembros de la competencia más acérrima, los directivos y actores del universo cinematográfico de Marvel. ¿Cuáles son los factores que la hacen tan buena y la están colocando como un hito en el mundo de las películas de superhéroes? En primer lugar creo que su timing es muy oportuno. Es la primera entrega de los nuevos universos de cine de DC y Marvel en la que la protagonista es una mujer, y quien dirige el film también lo es. Los cambios en la mentalidad colectiva de la sociedad que empoderan a la mujer venían pidiendo a gritos una película de este estilo y DC tuvo el coraje de animarse y ser el primero. Si hay algo bueno que tiene el DCCU (DC Cinematic Universe) es que se anima, algunas veces con errores, pero se anima al fin. El factor "girl power" es sin dudas uno de los ingredientes del éxito que viene cosechando. Por otro lado, tenemos esta nueva aura más colorida, cómica y aventurera. Muchos dirán que está tratando de copiar el estilo Marvel, pero lo que se puede dilucidar claramente en "Wonder Woman" es que ha aprendido de los errores de "BvS" y "Suicide Squad" y también de los errores y éxitos de su competidor. El universo oscuro de los superhéroes es muy de nicho, para un público particular que no es el masivo, y DC necesita meterse de lleno con el público masivo. El elemento pop y el humor son necesarios en estas películas y eso es algo que Marvel lo aprendió rápido. DC lo está comenzando a implementar pero a su manera, sin la exageración o estridencia de "Los Vengadores" o la inminente "Thor: Ragnarok", y eso es bueno porque no debe perder su esencia, su personalidad. Es de esperar que las próximas entregas del universo cinematográfico de DC vayan más en la línea de "Wonder Woman" que de "BvS". Otro acierto claro es el casting, sobretodo de la dupla protagonista. Gal Gadot ("BvS") y Chris Pine ("Star Trek") tienen muy buena química en pantalla y nos hacen creer todo el coqueteo y amor entre sus personajes. El resto del reparto es poderoso, elegante y adecuado. El único que puede generar polémica es David Thewlis ("Harry Potter"), por supuesto no por su talento, sino por el personaje que le tocó encarnar. Aquí creo que generó una sensación un tanto agriducle en la audiencia. Todos sentimos que era lo correcto, pero nos incomodaba igual. No quiero seguir para no spoilear, pero cuando vean el film me entenderán. La trama estuvo muy bien pensada también. Casi no presentaba fisuras, al menos no de relevancia. La narración tiene buena dinámica, fluye naturalmente y las vueltas de tuerca son acertadas. Por último, el aspecto audiovisual es maravilloso, destacándose las secuencias de acción en la isla de las amazonas y el enfrentamiento de la Mujer Maravilla con los soldados alemanes en el campo de batalla. Una más que respetable exponente del género del cual vamos a estar hablando durante un buen tiempo.
Entretenimiento del bueno.L os fanáticos de la serie pueden encontrar a Gal Gadot, la actriz que interpreta a la Mujer Maravilla, un tanto fría o con poco carisma o no lo suficientemente bonita, siempre y cuando ustedes la....
Este filme aburre, y no se debe a que sea un desacople de tecnología de mala resolución, sino a la inoperancia que se establece con el guión que circula de la ingenuidad extrema al cliché más convencional, con rupturas y elipsis temporales nunca explicadas, por lo que desde esa parafernalia, efectos especiales incluidos, nada cobra sustancia. Salvo la primera parte del relato, pues en realidad todo es un gran flash back, en el recuerdo de nuestra heroína quien, por supuesto, será la narradora de su propia historia disparada por una fotografía que le llega a su lugar de trabajo en la actualidad. Todo comenzó en la isla Temisqueira, protegida por del mundo desde la época de Las Guerras del Peloponeso, como mínimo, donde existen las amazonas que durante, “sabe Dios cuánto tiempo transcurrió”, han vivido en paz, sin necesidad de actuar en función de la razón por la que fueron creadas, pero que continúan con su entrenamiento habitual por si alguna vez son “requeridas”. Su misión es salvar al mundo de la influencia de Ares, el Dios de la guerra. En ese contexto conocemos a Diana de niña, hija de la reina Hipólita (Connie Nielsen) y sobrina del general Antiope (Robin Wright), quienes guardan un secreto inconfesable de la niña (¿ambas rubias ella morocha?), la que es entrenada para continuar con el estirpe de guerreras de las amazonas que no envejecen, salvo Diana que crece y se transforma en una adulta Diana (Gal Gadot), “sabe Dios cuanto tiempo transcurrió”. Pero, ¡Ok!, aceptemos el género del comic, nada explicado ni justificado, utilizando de tres cuarto de hora de película sin hacerlo, para luego desaparecer del relato, y sigamos con las verosimilitudes a un costado. Todo es felicidad plena hasta que hace su arribo el hombre, consecuencia de haber sido derribado su avión en un combate aéreo cayendo al mar, al ser derribado su avión. Temporalmente ya estamos en la Primera Guerra Mundial y Diana, que nunca había visto un hombre, tampoco un avión, sale al rescate (¿?), salvando de una muerte segura a Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), perseguido por las fuerzas alemanas, identificadas como aliadas de Ares para el raciocinio ingenuo de nuestra heroína. Pelea de por medio para establecer los nexos entre los personajes principales, ambos huyen de la isla hacia el mundo real, donde Ares esta haciendo de la suyas. La misión, en la que reside la existencia misma de Diana, se ve forzosamente al fracaso, pues eliminar a Ares no alcanzaría, ya que el mal está arraigado en la humanidad toda. En esa escalada de “misión imposible” van intercalando, de manera estratégica al principio, escenas empáticas de violencia extrema, o de desarrollo del relato, para terminar en un festín de violencia cada vez más recurrente sabiendo que el enfrentamiento final debe darse en algún momento y quien triunfará, aunque ello sirva de poco. Entonces tendremos que esperar el enfrentamiento anunciado, y repetido, con el general Lundedorff (Danny Huston) y su valiosa científica Dra. Maru (Elena Anaya). Pero eso no alcanzará. El Mal tiene mil caras. Mientras esto tiene que suceder, Diana y Trevor deben hacerle frente a la guerra, pero como no podrán en solitario conformaran un equipo de casi invencibles con otros tres mortales, Sameeir (Said Tagthymaoui),, Charlie (Ewen Bremner) y “El Jefe” (Eugene Brave Rock), todo para justificar una de las secuencias más tontas del filme. Escena en la que se exacerba la utilización de los diálogos que explican lo que el espectador está viendo y redundado empática e intelectivamente con una banda musical tan reconocible como repetida, conformando un inmenso estereotipo. Toda la realización está así construida, en esta secuencia del salvataje de un pueblo exageradamente pronunciado Luego de ese final, que no lo es, volvemos a la actualidad, y hasta el espectador mas distraído “sabe cuánto tiempo transcurrió”, sólo para que veamos nuevamente la foto, que emula a la foto de “Los Intocables” (1987), y saber quien se la envíó. Nadie duda de la pericia para los rubros técnicos, ni el diseño de sonido, ni la dirección de arte y cinematografía, ni del montaje, eso si, no busquen autoría. De las actuaciones poco para decir, correctas todas, ver en pantalla y juntas a Robin y Connie es un lujo, Chris Pine cae simpático, y los demás cumplen. La Diana de Gal Gadot no es la misma que la de Linda Carter,, eso queda claro. Que cada uno elija la que quiera. “Dios sabe durante cuánto tiempo” tendremos a Gal en el personaje.
Cuerpo y alma Puede sonar simplista, pero que haya sido una mujer la directora de esta película ya ha vuelto notoria la diferencia en la aproximación a su protagonista. La cámara no se detiene lascivamente en gratuitos planos-detalle del cuerpo de la Mujer Maravilla, y el abordaje se enfoca en su personalidad y su forma de pensar y sentir; de hecho, quizá esta sea la primera vez que una superheroína es representada como una mujer con convicciones y no como un objeto y una proyección de fantasías masculinas. En primer lugar, lo más meritorio de esta película tiene nombre y apellido: la israelí Gal Gadot es una sorpresa absoluta, una actriz sumamente competente a la hora de aportarle personalidad y cierta densidad emocional a la protagonista. La intérprete fue miss Israel en 2004 (cuando tenía 18 años), luego instructora de educación física del ejército israelí y más adelante se anotó unos tantos en la actuación, aunque nunca había tenido un protagónico de este porte. Lo cierto es que más allá de tener un físico funcional a la acción y al desempeño necesarios, Gadot pareciera sentir realmente al personaje, aportándole una credibilidad inesperada. Si los mayores problemas de las películas de DC-Warner (Batman, Superman) últimamente son los de contar con historias extremadamente serias e impersonales, aquí ese problema parece diluirse gracias a su presencia. Pero además, uno de los aspectos más interesantes de esta película es que durante la parte inicial del metraje la protagonista se presenta como una muchacha ingenua proveniente de otro mundo y otra época, una inconsciente que, con una espada, un escudo y un látigo, pretende enfrentarse a ejércitos enteros armados de ametralladoras, granadas y morteros. Es así que al comienzo prima la idea de que ella no tiene idea de dónde está metiéndose ni contra qué le toca enfrentarse, y ese perfil que oscila convincentemente entre la credulidad y una suicida osadía es logrado acertadamente por Gadot. Otro de los puntos interesantes de esta película es su tratamiento visual, y lo bien que están planificadas las escenas de acción. La directora Patty Jenkins, quien desde hace años viene desempeñándose en series (The Killing y Arrested Development, entre otras), logró una puesta en escena dotada de una estética coherente, en sintonía con la oscuridad predominante de DC-Warner, pero al mismo tiempo con esmero en los detalles, con un montaje que permite diferenciar siempre a los cuerpos y a los personajes en las contiendas, y su desempeño en cada momento. Lo que sí es bastante flojo es el guión, y más concretamente los diálogos, que frecuentemente pisan los lugares comunes, volviéndose absurdos e inverosímiles. En una escena, el coprotagonista, supuestamente uno de los mejores espías del ejército británico durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, intenta “seducir” a una malvada especialista en el desarrollo de armas químicas con líneas de diálogo que dan vergüenza ajena y que, para mayor sorpresa, son efectivas en su propósito. Con un pilar tan temblequeante, la película en su totalidad no queda a la altura de Godot, ni de Jenkins. Aun así, esta nueva aparición de una superheroína como protagonista principal de un blockbuster hollywoodense –desde Gatúbela (2004) y Elektra (2005) nadie se atrevía– es mucho más digna de lo esperable.

Después de muchos anuncios, postergaciones, y proyectos cancelados; finalmente, se estrena Mujer Maravilla. Un personaje creado en el papel por William Moulton Marston en 1941, inmortalizado en carne y hueso por la serie de TV (1975-1979) protagonizada por Linda Carter, con una iconografía instalada por esta última difícil de despegar. Es también el cuarto film del intento de DC Comics por crear un universo propio de películas interconectadas iniciado en 2013 por Hombre de Acero, y cuyo último capítulo, Escuadrón Suicida, había dejado un sabor más bien amargo en el público. Ese es el camino que recoge esta Mujer Maravilla (personaje que ya se nos mostró satisfactoriamente en Batman Vs Superman) con una primera escena introductoria, relacionada con la mítica Wayne Corp., y que servirá de anclaje para que se nos cuenten los orígenes de la amazona. Virtualmente divida en tres etapas, el guion creado por Allan Heinberg sobre una historia creada por este con la colaboración de Zach Snyder y Jason Fuchs nos presenta en un primer momento la formación de Diana en la isla Themyscira. Hija de la reina Hipólita (Connie Nielsen), que intenta en vano mantenerla alejada de actividades” guerreras”. Diana se siente atraída por las clases de la instructora Antiope (Robin Wright) y, por supuesto, desobedeciendo a su madre, terminará recibiendo preparación sin saber el riesgo que corre; claro, hay un secreto que envuelve a su persona, Diana no es cualquiera de las amazonas que habitan en la isla. Cuando Diana crece, en ese entorno aparado del mundo exterior, son más las dudas que las certidumbres. Hasta que en la isla irrumpe una avioneta estrellándose en el océano que traerá consigo al piloto espía de la Primera Guerra Mundial Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), quien accidentalmente terminará descubriendo la isla. Aquí comienza la segunda etapa del film en el que se formará la relación entre Diana (Gal Gadot) y Steve, y ante una invasión de los alemanes, se forjará el destino de abandonar la isla y acompañar a Steve “al mundo”, para terminar con lo que ella supone, es el Dios que contamina de violencia a los humanos, enquistado en los alemanes. La tercera etapa, claro está, será la que verá nacer a la Mujer Maravilla en todo su esplendor. Estos tres períodos también son diferentes tanto estética como narrativamente, siendo el primero de ellos el más llamativo. Themyscira se ve esplendorosa, la presencia de Nielsen y Wright enaltece a aquellas guerreras feministas que no necesitan de la presencia del hombre para imponerse. El combate durante la invasión alemana quizás abusa de los ralentíes, pero esto mismo lo hace visualmente poderoso. La narración crea un misterio que, aunque obvio, se sostiene, y logra que nos interesemos por el destino de Diana. La relación de Steve y Diana y la llegada a Inglaterra, marcarán las fuertes referencias con la serie televisiva. Fuerte implementación de comicidad, de estilo clásico, nuevamente de tono feminista, y con el doble sentido entre “la pareja” a la orden de día. Algunos podrán notar que a historia parece no avanzar durante esta parte, la comicidad es abundante, y hasta algo ridícula. La bajada de línea es típica, directa, y se arrojan una cantidad de datos sobre la Primera Guerra Mundial a la que, lo mejor que podemos hacer es tomárnoslo en solfa. Se habla de buenos y malos, hay imprecisiones históricas, y varios etcéteras. En definitiva, no estamos frente a una película que intente educar históricamente. Sí es acertado estéticamente, con un cambio rotundo de colores, pasando del brillo de Themyscira a la opacidad de una guerra dolorosa. Cuando finalmente llegue el tercer acto, propio de película de superhéroes, la narración pierde algo de su eje, y las imágenes abruman con un CGI demasiado irreal, en contra posición con la sobriedad y clasicismo expuesto anteriormente. Gal Gadot no recibirá premios a mejor actriz, lo suyo interpretativamente es limitado, pero le sobra carisma y garra, se entrega al personaje, tanto de Mujer Maravilla como de Diana Prince, y tiene química con Pine; convirtiéndola en un gran acierto para el papel. Lo mismo podríamos decir de Pine, en un tono cómico inocente, heroico de segundo plano, y de galan clásico; convence. Los villanos compuestos por Danny Huston y Elena Anaya carecen de un gran peso, y se hace obvio que habrá una vuelta de tuerca. Sí convence el trío conformado por Saïd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner, y Eugene Brave Rock como los “soldados” que formarán ese grupo cuasi para militar junto a Diana y Steve. Patty Jenkins, recordada por la sorpresiva Monster, impone otro personaje femenino fuerte, un universo en el que las mujeres pelean a la par en un mundo que parecía dominado por el hombre. Estos no suelen ser films en el que los directores tengan un gran control creativo, aquí su mano se nota. Clásica, entretenida, muy épica, y llevadera durante sus dos horas veinte sin decaer; aún con varios altibajos, Mujer Maravilla es un exponente convincente de este tipo de propuestas. Atrapará tanto a los seguidores del comic, de la serie, y a los recién llegados; no es para nada poco.
Creció en un mundo de puras mujeres y nunca vio el cuerpo de un varón, ni por supuesto un pito. En el momento crucial de por fin encontrarse con un ejemplar de ese universo tan distinto, que además está desnudo, le pregunta con el candor de una niña qué es eso que tiene ahí. Él balbucea una respuesta, nervioso, y ella dirige enseguida la atención al reloj del muchacho, para el caso tan nuevo como un pene: “¿Y dejás que esa cosa tan pequeña te diga qué hacer?”. Ella es la Mujer Maravilla, aunque todavía nadie la llama por ese nombre sino por el de Diana Prince, una guerrera que en la misma película coge y pelea. Y el estreno de esta Mujer Maravilla es todo un acontecimiento porque es la primera vez que el personaje da el salto desde los comics y la serie de televisión que popularizó Lynda Carter, allá por los setentas, a la pantalla del cine, o al menos de lo que entendemos por cine ahora: superproducciones digitales y trepidantes, incoherentes y sobrecargadas, llenas de trucos y regalos para lxs espectadores a lxs que se agita desde mucho tiempo antes del estreno. No es que no salga nada bueno de ahí, pero lo cierto es que esta Mujer Maravilla, dirigida además por una mujer llamada Patty Jenkis (que se ganó un nombre dirigiendo a Charlize Theron en Monster, en el 2003), responde punto por punto a las exigencias del momento: es larguísima, contiene de todo en su interior, atraviesa distintos escenarios y épocas, deriva en una acumulación de secuencias culminantes que resulta tremendamente estática, y ralenta las escenas de lucha al punto de dar la sensación de estar viendo un álbum, una sucesión de afiches de blockbusters más que una película. Ahora, lo que se ve en esos afiches, por más que pertenezca y no pertenezca del todo al mundo del cine, brilla por sí mismo, por obra y gracia de Gal Gadot. Incluso cuando parezca tratarse de imágenes que flotan suspendidas en la nada misma, o en esos fondos de fuego y destrucción un poco abstractos que invaden la pantalla hacia el final de la película, para que ella se luzca en el centro. El argumento es simple y ridículo: en algún momento de la historia el dios Zeus creó a las amazonas para que preservaran el planeta de las guerras constantes -causadas por Ares, el dios de la guerra- en que lxs humanxs no podían dejar de enredarse. Esas amazonas habitan una isla paradisíaca, fuera del tiempo y nunca visitada por humanxs, donde se entrenan como guerreras con fervor espartano. Pero un día, un soldado norteamericano de la Primera Guerra (Chris Pine) se estrella cerca de la isla con su avión, y Diana (Gal Gadot) lo rescata. Así se entera de que más allá de su isla hay una guerra terrible, y decide fugarse para detenerla, convencida de que es el mismo Ares el que la provoca. La primera parte de la película transcurre en la isla y es un imán para los ojos, porque ese mundo de mujeres fuertes, con cascos y espadas, comandado por la reina Hipólita (Connie Nielsen) y su hermana Antiope (Robin Wright), es glorioso y merecía su propia película. Sin embargo, igual que Moana, Diana lo abandona agitada por la curiosidad de ver qué hay más allá, y porque sin saberlo tiene una misión en este mundo, que es detener la guerra con las armas de la guerra. Además de los momentos de risa o de seducción ingenua entre Diana y el soldado, que tienen el encanto de una primera vez, toda esta Mujer Maravilla está marcada por esta figura atlética, furiosa, que ruge cuando pega o se llena de bronca asesina, de una Gal Gadot que se pone físicamente a la altura de esta heroína que es puro músculo, rugido y fuerza. Por eso mismo es insólito que en el momento más álgido se la haga gritar, del modo más incoherente posible y después de despachar a varios soldados alemanas con su espada, “¡Yo sí creo en el amor!”, frase que si fuera pronunciada por Batman, digamos, en la batalla final de una película, la destruiría por completo. Y acá el efecto no es tan distinto, además de que nos devuelve de un latigazo a ese mundo de los sentimientos que no dejan de señalarnos como el único legítimo.
Mujer, sí; maravilla, no… Detrás de su telón estético, Wonder Woman esconde un relato cursi, disparatado y vacío de contenido. Sus excelentes escenas de acción, editadas según dicta el criterio de Zack Snyder, no son suficientes para rescatar la película. Lo bueno: la cinematografía y la edición digital. Lo malo: el guión. Lo pésimo: las actuaciones.
La ocupación de un lugar Se estrenó "Mujer maravilla", dirigida por Patty Jenkins. Basada en el personaje de DC Comics, escrita a dúo por Allan Heinberg y Geoff Johns, que tiene como protagonista a una superheroína. Después de tanto superhéroe acomplejado y conquistador, será esta vez una mujer la encargada de salvar el mundo. Basada en el personaje de DC Comics, Mujer maravilla (2017), dirigida por Patty Jenkins, escrita a dúo por Allan Heinberg y Geoff Johns, tendrá como protagonista a una superheroína. Circunstancia de sentido no menor, si se tiene en cuenta el universo narrativo en el cual la película se inscribe, ocupado hasta el momento por los hombres y sus grandes poderes. “Yo quería salvar el mundo” será justamente lo primero que anuncie en voz en off la protagonista. En Paris, Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) recibirá una fotografía en blanco y negro en la que aparecen un grupo de hombres y una mujer. El origen de la fotografía y de esa mujer rodeada de hombres se convertirá en el punto de partida de una historia cuya procedencia mitológica será narrada con no poco disimulado didacticismo. En una isla paradisíaca viven las Amazonas, un grupo de mujeres guerreras en plan de entrenamiento permanente, creadas por el dios Zeus para infundir la paz entre los hombres y defenderlos de Ares, el dios de la guerra, enojado con su padre por la creación imperfecta de la humanidad. Desde el comienzo, para demostrar la capacidad combativa de las mujeres, el film de Jenkins exhibirá un manejo un tanto excesivo de la cámara lenta que terminará por erosionar en gran medida su eficacia posterior. La princesa Diana, hija de la reina del matriarcado, deseará desde pequeña convertirse en guerrera, pero deberá primero convencer a su madre, quien por extrañas razones se lo prohíbe. Diana insistirá montada sobre su propio deseo, acaso determinado por una descendencia que aún desconoce. Sin embargo, un día caerá del cielo un avión en picada conducido por un espía estadounidense. Desde los tiempos de la Primera Guerra Mundial, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) llegará para contarles a las Amazonas sobre la guerra que se lleva a cabo en Europa, guerra determinada por nuevas armas de destrucción masiva, en especial por la invención de un gas mortal producido por una mujer bajo las órdenes de Erich Ludendorff (Danny Huston), un despiadado general del Ejército alemán. El fin del mundo se avecina. Diana viajará entonces con Trevor hacia el frente de batalla para combatir y enfrentar el mal. Entre ellos se producirá una inmediata atracción amorosa. En una divertida escena que preanuncia el romance, Diana no tendrá problemas en afirmar la independencia de la mujer respecto a su propio placer: no necesita del hombre para conseguirlo. La relación que establezcan ambos personajes y otros que aparecerán luego se constituirá en un punto fuerte de la película. Una vez allí, cuando pueda ver con sus propios ojos la guerra, Diana dará rienda suelta a su ferocidad guerrera. Por fuera de un gobierno de burócratas ingleses que negocian el armisticio a costa de la muerte de inocentes, junto a un grupo de hombres infrecuentes y adorables -el espía, un contrabandista, un borracho y un indio- que la acompañan pero sin eclipsar su poderío, enfrentará en la clandestinidad al enemigo alemán. La película de Jenkins oscilará a partir de ese momento entre el despliegue de notables escenas de acción, en las cuales será posible apreciar la destreza de la mujer maravilla en todo su esplendor, y aquellas otras colmadas de palabras ansiosas por subrayar su mensaje. La sensación de escándalo antibelicista, sin referencia al origen político subyacente, invadirá la trama. Momentos de histeria y solemnidad que perturbarán la acción y entorpecerán la fluidez del relato. Mujer maravilla permitirá, por un lado, la posibilidad de preguntarse críticamente por el orden de representación de la mujer en el ejercicio, por primera vez en este tipo de megaproducción, de la función estelar. Esto es: hasta dónde sería posible reconocer en el film una mirada feminista. Si la película se propone, desde una perspectiva de género, tan solo ocupar un lugar siempre reservado al hombre o si logra a partir de esa ocupación o conquista promover otro tipo de heroína, fundado a partir de características propias y no típicamente masculinas. Por otro lado, el nuevo film de la factoría Warner Bros y DC Comics no dejará de evidenciar los mismos problemas que muestra su prontuario, aun cuando puedan destacarse sus ciertas virtudes y hallazgos.
